  • In this paper, a global path generation method is suggested using multiple grid maps connected with the mission type of unmanned combat vehicle(UCV). In order to carry out a mission for UCV, it is essential to find a global path which is coincident with the characteristics of the mission. This can be done by considering various combat circumstances represented as grid maps such as velocity map, threat map and communication map. Cost functions of multiple grid maps are linearly combined and normalized to them simultaneously for the path generation. The proposed method is realized using $A^*$, a well known search algorithm, and cost functions are normalized in the ratio of the traverse time which is one of critical information should be provided with the operators using the velocity map. By the experiments, it is checked found global paths match with the mission type by reflecting input data of grid maps properly and the computation time is short enough to regenerate paths in real time as combat circumstances change.

  • One disadvantage of deep cycle flooded lead-acid batteries is increasing water loss caused by use of (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Sb alloy grid. Water loss is generated by the emission of hydrogen gas from the (-) electrode during battery charging. In this paper, we maintain cycle life aspect through the development of hybrid flooded lead-acid batteries to which a (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Ca grid is applied and deal with the improvement of water loss. The amount of water loss compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid decreased when Ca was added to the (-) Pb grid. For the (-) Pb-Ca grid, it was confirmed that the time to reach 0.0 V, at which water decomposition occurs, was increased compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid at the NPV (Negative Potential Voltage). In the cycle life test conducted with the BCI (Battery Council International) standard, compared to the (+) Pb-Ca grid, the (+) Pb-Sb grid increased the life cycle of the batteries and the (+) Pb-Ca grid showed an early end of life due to PbO corrosion layer generation, as determined through SEM / EDS and Tear Down analysis. In conclusion, by addition of Sb to (+) Pb grid and Ca to (-) Pb grid, we developed a hybrid flooded lead-acid battery that meets user requirements to improve water loss characteristics and preserve cycle life characteristics.

  • In a previous research, we presented the Grid Method and confirmed it as a systematic and efficient problem formulation method for the task-oriented design of robot kinematics. However, our previous research was limited in two ways. First, it gave only a local optimum due to its use of a local optimization technique. Second, it used constant weights for a cost function chosen by the manual weights tuning algorithm, thereby showing low efficiency in finding an optimal solution. To overcome these two limitations, therefore, this paper presents a global optimization technique and an adaptive weights tuning algorithm to solve a formulated problem using the Grid Method. The efficiencies of the proposed algorithms have been confirmed through the kinematic design examples of various robot manipulators.

  • Grid computing is an emerging technology that enables global resource sharing. In Korea, the $K^*$Grid provides an extremely powerful research environment to both industries and academia. As part of the $K^*$Grid project, we have constructed, together with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information and a number of domestic universities, a supercomputer Grid test bed which connects several types of supercomputers based on the globus toolkit. To achieve efficient networking in this Grid testbed, we propose a novel method of available bandwidth measurement, called Decoupled Capacity measurement with Initial Gap (DCIG), using packet trains. DCIG can improve the network efficiency by selecting the best path among several candidates. Simulation results show that DCIG outperforms previous work in terms of accuracy and the required measurement time. We also define a new XML schema for DCIG request/response based on the schema defined by the Global Grid Forum (GGF) Network Measurement Working Group (NM-WG).

  • Silver (Ag) grid patterned PET substrates were manufactured by thermal roll-imprinting methods. We coated highly conductive layer (HCL) as a supply electrode on the Ag grid patterned PET in the three kinds of conditions. One was no-HCL without conductive PEDOT:PSS on the Ag grid patterned PET substrate, another was thin-HCL coated with ~50 nm thickness of conductive PEDOT:PSS on the Ag grid PET, and the other was thick-HCL coated with ~95 nm thickness of conductive PEDOT:PSS. These three HCLs in order showed 73.8%, 71.9%, and 64.7% each in transmittance, while indicating $3.84{\Omega}/{\Box}$, $3.29{\Omega}/{\Box}$, and $2.65{\Omega}/{\Box}$ each in sheet resistance. Fabrication of organic solar cells (OSCs) with HCL Ag grid patterned PET substrates showed high power conversion efficiency (PCE) on the thin-HCL device. The thick-HCL device decreased efficiency due to low open circuit voltage ($V_{OC}$). And the Ag grid pattern device without HCL had the lowest energy efficiency caused by quite low short current density ($J_{SC}$).

The current approach uses conventional Advancing Front Method which is used to generate unstructured triangular grids. Grid cell size control is done by using closeness-based global interpolation method controlled by pre-described control elements. Algorithm and procedure for quadrilateral grid generation using AFM method and cell size control method are described. Examples of quadrilateral grid generation are shown, and difficulties and problems related to the current approach are also discussed.

  • In this paper, we proposed a system that efficiently provides support maps which includes the grid based terrain analysis information. To do this, we use the FDB which is defined as a GIS database that contains features with attributes attached to the features. The FDB is composed of a number of features and feature classes. In order to create support maps, it is necessary to classify feature classes that are associated with each support map and to search them in a grid map. The proposed system use a ontology model to classify semantically feature classes and the quad-tree data structure to find them in a grid map quickly. Therefore, our system is expected to be utilized for global path planning of UGV. In this paper, we show the possibility through an experimental implementation.
