The US dollar has kept as a position of key currency in the global economy in the changing international monetary system where the euro was introduced to some states of the EU in 1999. It is an evidence of inertia of the US dollar as a key currency. Our previous study (Ogawa and Muto, 2017b) conducted empirical analysis to investigate effects of several events on inertia of the US dollar. One of our findings was that the introduction of the euro increased utility of euro while utility of US dollar was kept unchanged. This paper examines the effects of the global financial crisis and the euro zone crisis as well as the introduction of the euro on the utility of the Japanese yen. The introduction of the euro significantly decreased the utility of the Japanese yen. It indicates that the introduction of the euro increased the utility of the euro while reducing the utility of the Japanese yen rather than the utility of the US dollar. The utility of the Japanese yen has significantly decreased while the global financial crisis and the euro zone crisis occurred. The Japanese yen has a declining trend in terms of its utility over time in the changing international monetary system.

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of global uncertainty on gross and net capital flows in Korea. Design/methodology/approach - We conduct an empirical analysis of the impact of global uncertainty on the net and gross capital flows in korea. To investigate the impacts, we incorporate linear and nonlinear ARDL models. Findings - We find global uncertainty has negative impacts on the gross and net capital flows. But this impact is nonlinear. The negative global uncertainty shocks are bigger than the positive global uncertainty shocks on capital flows in Korea. And we find this relationship is noticeable in gross capital inflows. We also find interest rate difference between the US and Korea is the main driving source in capital flow after the Global financial crisis. Research implications or Originality - The results of this study suggest that the negative impacts of global uncertainty are noticeable. This means that economic players in financial markets should be more concerned about the bad news.

세계은행 통계에 따르면 2013~2016년 기간 중 세계 경제 성장에 대한 중국의 기여도는 31.6%인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 미국, EU 및 일본의 기여도를 합한 29.0%에 비해 높은 수치로서 중국 경제가 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력이 상당히 크다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 중국의 주요 품목별(화학제품, 곡물, 철재, 원유, 컨테이너) 연도별 수출입 해상물동량이 세계 경제성장에 미치는 영향을 시계열 데이터 분석 모형을 적용하여 분석하였다. 총 분석기간은 1999~2016년이며, 제1기(1999~2007년)와 제2기(2008~2016년)의 시기별 분석을 수행함으로써 중국 무역이 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력 측면에서 시기별로 어떠한 구조적 변화가 발생했는지 조명하였다. 특히 대다수 선행연구들이 세계 무역이 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였다면, 본 연구는 중국 무역의 영향력을 분석하여 세계 무역 대국으로 부상하고 있는 중국을 집중적으로 분석하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

인신매매는 오늘날 지구촌에서 급속히 발전하는 지하산업이자 범죄 행위이다. 세계 일부 기업들의 해외 법인은 종종 이러한 성매매 산업에 참여하여 인신매매에 필요한 비용을 지불하는 등 범죄조직의 운영 및 수익에 관여할 뿐만 아니라 지하경제의 투자자금 생성에 깊은 관련이 있다. 이는 불법적 경제의 조성에 인신매매를 통한 성매매가 심각한 위험이라는 것을 반증한다. 또한 전 세계 윤락녀의 56% 정도가 HIV 혹은 AIDS를 가지고 있으며 성매매는 AIDS 감염의 원인이 되고 있는 등 수많은 사람들이 성매매 산업과 접촉하면서 매일 HIV와 다른 질병에 감염되어 확산되고 있어 성매매를 위한 인신매매가 가져오는 보건의 문제 역시 심각한 문제로 인식되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 성매매를 위한 인신매매가 내포하고 있는 심각한 문제는 다양하지만, 일부 국가에서 보이는 바와 같이 정부와 정책 결정자들에게 성매매는 관심 밖의 문제로 외면당하고 학문적 논의에서도 미진한 부분이 되고 있다. 따라서 성매매를 위한 인신매매와 관련된 경제적인 파장과 보건 및 질병에 관한 연구가 매우 필요하다. 이에 따라 이 연구는 성매매를 위한 인신매매와 관련된 선행연구들을 분석하고, 네팔에서의 성매매의 실상을 파악하기 위한 인신매매에 대한 사례분석을 제시하고자 한다. 그리고 이 연구의 결론과 논의부분에서는 세계 여러 나라는 성 매매 산업을 감축하기 위한 정책과 국제사회의 공조가 필요한 부분 등의 정책적 부분에 대한 내용을 논의하고 있다.

As digital economy has dramatically evolved, new intellectual property rights protection has emerged as a pivotal issue which companies need to actively restxnid to. At the new digital era, the possession of new intellectual property rights determines the company values, and thus the protection of new intellectual property rights is getting more importance in the dimension of global competitiveness. The paper analyzes the changing aspect of digital economy and e-commerce paradigm, and explores the protection plan of new intellectual property rights focusing on e-commerce and digital goods transaction so that it can help the companies to strengthen their global competitiveness. After various case studies, we can find out that even though the companies have difficulty in settling out the strategies and policy due to the radical change of cycle in internet-centered digital economy, companies need to establish the systemic strategic plan to protect the new intellectual property rights stage by stage. Also, appropriate legal, institutional basis to protect the new intellectual property rights should be rearranged. The unsloved problems which relates with the protection of new intellectual property rights will be left for next research project.

The smart convergence environment, in which all industries are converged around ICT infrastructure -- with the eventual inclusion of both industry and culture -- looms. With the emergence of new convergence industries such as smart medicine, smart cities, and smart automobiles, the ICT infrastructure is recognized as the foundation of the overall economy. As such, the importance of the next generation of information and communication construction businesses, which constructs the ICT infrastructure, is highlighted under the smart convergence paradigm environment; various multilateral policies to foster the information and communication construction business -- led by the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning -- are being implemented. Like other infrastructure industries, however, the estimation of the demand function of the information and communication construction business overall is essential for effectively establishing promotional policies for information and communication construction businesses. However, there has been no study which theoretically estimates the market demand function in the information and communication construction business thus far. The pursuit of a creative economy is a national agenda, as the significance of accelerating the ICT infrastructure is emphasized. Therefore, this paper seeks to estimate quantitatively the demand function in the information and communication construction business using empirical data and a statistical model and then to present policy implications which will aid the development of the information and communication construction business.

Payment systems are evolving, and this study examines how blockchain and AI improve online transactional security and service quality. The study examines micro and macro payment systems, compares online, and offline methods all over the world. The study also examines how blockchain and AI affect payment system security, privacy, and efficiency globally and rapidly digitizing economy. Digital payment methods are growing all over the world with high literacy and digital engagement, but they face challenges. The research highlights cybersecurity threats and the need to balance user convenience and security. It suggests blockchain and AI improve online payment services, supporting the policies for different countries. In this extensive research survey, we compare and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various payment systems, their practicality, and their robustness. This study also examines how technological innovations and payment systems interact to reveal how blockchain and AI could transform the financial sector. It seeks to understand how technology-enhancing service quality can boost customer satisfaction and financial stability in the digital age. The findings should help policymakers, financial institutions, and technology developers optimize online payment systems for a more secure and efficient digital economy.

The recent global financial crisis has highlighted the importance of international monetary and financial system reform. The current system is deemed to be no longer adequate to meet the needs of a complex, integrated world economy. With regards to the reform of the international monetary system, there have been various proposals both in demand and supply sides. These include proposals to build a stronger global financial safety net, to diversify the supply of international reserve currency and so on. These proposals face trade-offs between desirability and political feasibility. Given this situation, a practical transition would be to strengthen policy coordination among the major economies and to reform the International Monetary Fund. The success on both fronts depends heavily on global economic governance reform and the role of the G20. Increased status and representation of Asian countries in the G20 give both privileges and responsibilities to Asians. To meet these responsibilities, Asians should put forth greater efforts to develop their intellectual leadership in global economic issues through creating new forum and institutions.
