The purpose of this study is to build and manage environment models with line segments from sonar range data on obstacles in unknown and varied environments. The proposed method therefore employs a two-stage data-transform process in order to extract environmental line segments from range data on obstacles. In the first stage, the occupancy grid extracted from the range data is accumulated to form a two-dimensional local histogram grid. In the second stage, a line histogram extracted from a local histogram grid is based on a Hough transform, and matching serves as a means of comparing each of the segments on a global line segments map against the line segments to detect the degree of similarity in the overlap, orientation, and arrangement. Each of these tests is formulated by comparing one of the parameters in the segment representation. After the tests, new line segments can be found at maximum-density cells in the line histogram, and they are composed onto the global line segment map. The proposed technique is demonstrated in experiments in an indoor environment.
A location-aware system, which is capable to detect a user's whereabout in a region and provide real-time location information in outdoor environment is designed and fabricated, specifically using the GPS (global positioning system) as key technology in view of its stability and high precision in outdoor environment. Experiment is conducted to test this application in campus-based environment. Once GPS receiver detects specific location which is tagged with GPS coordinates, the system provides information relevant to that context and user can operate and react accordingly. Besides, this location-aware system is able to provide user with the route in order to get to a desired place by detecting the direction that the user is moving towards from his/her initial location. The mapping data is transferred via wireless LAN to PDA carried by the user as well as to the back-end system on real-time basis. The test result is analyzed and discussed to validate the effectiveness of using GPS in implementing this system and indicates future works that could be made to improve this prototype to be implemented in other applications, such as theme park, tourist attraction spot or recreational park.
Purpose - This paper attempts to determine the importance of financial sustainability and the impact of Selling, General and Administrative Expenses (SG&A) on the financial sustainability of the IT industry. Research design, data, and methodology - Primarily the impact of SG&A expenditure on the sales revenue, assets, gross margins and profit is ascertained. After that the impact of SG&A expenditure, sales revenue, assets, gross margins and profit on the financial sustainability i.e., return on assets is worked out. Finally the impacts of financial sustainability i.e., return on assets on total enterprise value and market valuation multiples are found out. Results - The empirical result shows that SG&A expenditure most strongly impacted sales revenue, assets, gross margins and profit positively. Financial sustainability impacted in mixed manner with SG&A expenditure, sales revenue, assets, gross margins and profit. Assets and gross margins have weak positive impact on financial sustainability. Sales revenue has no impact on financial sustainability. Finally financial sustainability had moderate positive impact on total enterprise value and had no impact on market valuation multiples. Conclusions - SG&A expense has moderate positive impact on the financial sustainability and magnitude is very low.
Whilst most research focuses on the reduction of operative energy use in buildings, the aspect of which (and how many) materials are used is often neglected and poorly explored. However, considering the continuous growth of the global population and the limited availability of resources, it is clear that focusing on operative energy alone is too short-sighted. The tasks lying ahead for architects and engineers cannot be accomplished with conventional methods of construction. With a share of 50-60% of global resource consumption, the building industry has a decisive impact on our environment. If business as usual continues, resources will be significantly depleted in a matter of decades. Therefore, researchers of the University of Stuttgart are investigating the concept of adaptivity as a promising method for saving resources in the built environment. The term adaptivity in the context of building structures was first introduced by Werner Sobek. It describes a method where sensors, actuators and control units are implemented in systems or facades in order to oppose physical impacts in an ideal way. The applicability of this method will be verified on an experimental high-rise building at the University campus in Stuttgart. Thus, this paper describes this innovative research project and depicts the concept of adaptivity in high-rise structures. Furthermore, it gives an overview of potential actuation concepts and the interdisciplinary challenges behind them.

The main aim of the research attempts to identify value relations appropriated and realized in the coffee frontier of Vietnam by investigating the ways in which it is integrated into coffee global value chains driven by multinational companies, and to provide some implications of the integration of the frontier into sustainable coffee global value chains for creating shared value in Dak Lak, Vietnam. Recently Dak Lak has gone through the transition of value relations from exploitative value chains based upon conventional coffee production into shared value chains relied upon the production of sustainable or certified coffee in Dak Lak. The transition has been expected to result in sustainability in the creation of value by enhancing regional competitive advantages and regional bargaining power in global value chains driven by multinational companies. However, the reality has shown the intensification of hierarchical profits allocation among stakeholders such as farmer, middlemen, and multinational companies in the region. The main reasons for this could be found in two perspectives. Firstly, the formation of exclusive relations among farmers, middlemen, and processors has led to stakeholders to secure market, but resulted in the intensification of hierarchy among them in global value chain, because multinational companies could control indirectly over the farming system through exclusive middlemen. Secondly, social and ecological costs imputed by multinational companies to coffee farmers in the name of creating shared value has deteriorated the economic profits of stakeholders such as farmers and middlemen. As a result, it has led to the configuration of systematically hierarchical and subordinated global value chain in Dak Lak.

In this paper, we proposed "Future Design and Success Engineering in Global Society by Self-Innovation" (an abbreviated name: FDSE). We started to make a small experiment between Korea Maritime University and Yamagata University at the current year. After inspecting the results, especially, successful and unsuccessful points in our lecture, we have to develop the strong points and amend the week points, through making the analysis of success-failure, which is his favorite management method. We have to level up the contents of our work in the future. The students for this lecture would learn from experiences of "the common knowledge (common field of discussion)", held common languages, common thought, common system. They filled up the blanks of "The Matrix Frame" which is mentioned in the previous report, and they expressed their own way of life (work, study). As a matter of course, their personal private affairs must not be made public. It is quite happy that the cultural, economical exchanges between Korea and Japan are now in full flourish and people do a lot of traveling each other. However, if this project will start on the educational global standard, we have a world-wide significance. Moreover, we can promote goodwill between Korea and Japan, and also we can contribute to a better international understanding and the peace of the world by students in both Universities. We hope that candidates for this lecture will have a rounded personality and be a life worthy of human being for realizing Self-Actualization in "Motivation and Personality" by Abraham Maslow.

In this paper we proposed system and algorithm to recognize hand gestures based on the millimeter wave that is in 65GHz bandwidth. The proposed system is composed of millimeter wave radar board, analog to data conversion and data capture board and notebook to perform gesture recognition algorithms. As feature vectors in proposed algorithm. we used global and local zernike moment descriptor which are robust to distort by rotation of scaling of 2D data. As Experimental result, performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with those of algorithms using single global or local zernike descriptor as feature vectors. In analysis of confusion matrix of algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows the better performance in comparison of precision, accuracy and sensitivity, subsequently total performance index of our method is 95.6% comparing with another two mehods in 88.4% and 84%.

In this paper, we propose a new program for university student's IT leadership renovation. Automation and Artificial Intelligence(AI) are changing the nature of work. According to MGI report, they will change the skills needed in the workforce. Leadership is one of the skills needed more of in the future at workplace including IT industry. Leadership could be defined as having 5 level leadership. According to the 5 level leadership, a program was formulated to renovate university student's self-leadership, teamwork, team leadership and finally global leadership. We named the program as Stepping-Stone Platform for Student's IT Leadership Renovation(SSP-SLR). Each level of four stepping stones consists of one semester. Student can raise their leadership skills by the program step by step. Various instruction learning methodologies are adopted to the program, including Flipped learning which has been proved effective in many ways in the field of education recently.
A nonlinear Finite Element (FE) algorithm is proposed to analyze the Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns subjected to Cyclic Loading (CL), Cyclic Oriented Lateral Force and Axial Loading (COLFAL), Monotonic Loading (ML) or Oriented Pushover Force and Axial Loading (OPFAL) in any direction. In the proposed algorithm, the following parameters are considered: uniaxial behavior of concrete and steel elements, the pseudo-plastic hinge produced in the critical sections, and global behavior of RC columns. In the proposed numerical simulation, the column is discretized into two Macro-Elements (ME) located between the pseudo-plastic hinges at critical sections and the inflection point. The critical sections are discretized into Fixed Rectangular Finite Elements (FRFE) in general cases of CL, COLFAL or ML and are discretized into Variable Oblique Finite Elements (VOFE) in the particular cases of ML or OPFAL. For pushover particular case, a fairly fast converging and properly accurate nonlinear simulation method is proposed to assess the behavior of RC columns. The proposed algorithm has been validated by the results of tests carried out on full-scale RC columns.
Using the case of the Ghent University and its Technology Park, we will illustrate how changing policies and practices at the level of the university concerning research valorization have an impact on our science park. We will also demonstrate how the evolving nature of our science park has a clear impact on the university, as the science park becomes more and more an integral part of the university knowledge eco-system. We will also highlight the involvement of Ghent University in the Korea Songdo Global University Campus Project.
