The techniques of joint mobilization and traction are used to improve joint mobility or to decrease pain by restoring accessory movements to the shoulder joints and thus allowing full, nonrestriced, pain-free range of motion. In the glenohumeral joint, the humeral head would be the convex surface, while the glenoid fossa would be the concave surface. The medial end of the clavicle is concave anterioposteriorly and convex superioinferiorly, the articular surface of the sternum is reciprocally curved. The acromioclavicular joint is a plane synovial joint between a small convex facet on lateral end of the clavicle and a small concave facet on the acromion of the scapula. The relationship between the shape of articulating joint surface and the direction of gliding is defined by the convex-concave rule. If the concave joint surface is moving on a stationary convex surface, gliding occur in the same direction as the rolling motion. If the convex surface is moving on a stationary concave surface, gliding will occur in an opposite direction to rolling. Hypomobile shoulder joint are treated be using a gliding technique.

Purpose: In reconstructing a defect on the dorsum of the hand, there are many cases of extensor tendons exposed or even missing. The repaired or reconstructed tendons need relevant gliding environment for good functional recovery. The anterolateral thigh flap offers a vascular fascial component with large amounts that can be used for covering exposed tendons and we report a unique case of single-stage hand dorsum and gliding surface reconstruction. Methods: A 35-year-old man had severe post-traumatic scarring in his left dorsal hand and coverage of the flap with split-thickness skin graft has been done before. After scarred skin excision and extensor tendon graft for missed part, a free anterolateral thigh adipofascial flap was used to resurface the hand dorsum and to reconstruct a two-layer gliding surface of the extensor tendons. The extensor tendons were wrapped in the fascial component with the fat layer inside. Results: He had an uneventful postoperative course without infection, dehiscence and flap necrosis. Good overall functional recovery and tendon excursion were observed. He was also satisfied with postoperative appearance. Conclusion: A free anterolateral thigh adipofascial flap was used successfully for reconstruction of a two-layer tendon gliding surface to treat a patient with severe scarring in the dorsal hand.
Gliding motility is defined as the movement of nonflagellated cells in the direction of its long axis on a solid surface and found in many phylogenetically diverse bacteria. Genetic, biochemical, ultrastructural, and behavioral studies have provided a wealth of information related to the mechanism of possible gliding apparatuses. Social motility of Myxococcus xanthus and the gliding of Synechocystis appear to rely on the function of type IV pili, similar to twitching motility of pseudomonas aeruginosa and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In contrast, adventurous motility of M. xanthus and the gliding of filamentous cyanobacteria and Flavobacterium are not dependent on the pili. Instead, they appear to employ novel motility mechanisms that are currently being unveiled.

A novel gene (agiA) required for adventurous gliding motility in Myxococcus xanthus has been identified. Null mutations in this gene caused defects in the gliding movement of isolated cells, suggesting that it belongs to one of the A-motility genes. The isolated agiA mutant cells neither glided nor produced slime trails on agar surface. However, agiA was different from other known A-motility genes in that the agiA mutant created in the $S^-$ mutant background glided in the swarm of cells, since other known A-motility mutants created in the $S^-$ mutant background do not move in the swarm of cells. The agiA mutant was also defective in fruiting body development. Sequence analysis predicted that agiA encodes a 787-amino-acid protein with eight tripeptide repeat motifs.
Various flyers in nature have attracted great interests with a recent need for developing versatile and small-size flight vehicles. In the present study, we focus on the flying fish which has been observed to glide a long distance just above a seawater surface. Since previous studies have depended on the field observation or measurement of the physical parameters only, quantitative data of the flying fish flight has not been provided so far. Therefore, we evaluate the wing performance of the flying fish in gliding flight by directly measuring the lift, drag and pitching moment on real flying fish models (Cypselurus hiraii) in a wind tunnel. In addition, we investigate the roles of wing morphology like the enlarged pectoral and pelvic fins, and lateral dihedral angle of pectoral fins. With both the pectoral and pelvic fins spread, the lift-to-drag ratio is larger and the longitudinal static stability is enhanced than those with the pelvic fins folded. From the glide polar, we find that the wing performance of flying fish is equivalent to those of medium-size birds like the petrel, hawk and wood duck. Finally, we examine the effect of water surface underneath the flying fish and find that the water surface reduces the drag and increases the lift-to-drag ratio.
Photoaligning polymers usually possess "sofe" surface, containing flexible groups and provide relatively small anchoring energy($W<10^{-2}$ erg $cm^{-2}$). In this case field-induced reorientation of director on the aligning surface is essential. We have shown that surface director reorientation can modify the aligning surface and result in gliding of the axis of easy orientation of LC. this phenomena together with adsorption/desorption of ions in electric field cause strong sticking effect in LCDs photoaligning materials. We proposed a method of decreasing of the sticking effect based on irradiation of the photoaligning surface by an unpolarized light.

A guidance kit transforming a general purpose bomb into an air-to-surface gliding bomb was developed. This guidance kit consists of a flight kit and a tail kit. Flight kit contains deployable wing, GPS/INS integrated navigation system, guidance and control system. Also this guidance kit was designed to use neither electrical nor mechanical interface with aircraft, and to increase dramatically the survivabilities of pilot and aircraft with the high accuracy and the mid-range non-powered gliding capability.

Tests and evaluations following the U.S. MIL-HDBK/STANDARD were successfully conducted to assure the performance of the air-to-surface guidance kit which was developed first in Korea. Various ground tests confirmed the operation capability and reliability of the guidance kit, and flight tests proved very good mid-range gliding performance and accuracy of the gliding bomb which was a general purpose bomb with the guidance kit.
Recently, study on the weak interaction energy between the soft polymer surface and liquid crystals has been a primary topic for new LC device applications. In this paper, to understand the switching property of nematic liquid crystals (LCs) at the interface with a weak anchoring boundary, we investigate experimentally the rotation property of surface nematic director by electric field on non-treated Poly-Methylmethacrylate (PMMA, $T_g=110^{\circ}C$, Sigma Aldrich) film observed under various temperatures including the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the polymer layer.
