The study on the interaction forces of some biological materials is important to understanding biological phenomena and their application to practical purpose. This paper introduces a measuring technique for biological adhesive forces using the AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). Since no standardized thesis on adhesive forces exist, the adhesive forces is defined as adhesive forces against a hardened surface of biological materials. To grant the results are meaningful, which is based on the understanding the surface characteristics of biological materials using the AFM, a nominal value of average adhesive force per unit area should be measured. Therefore the modified AFM probe with small micro glass bead was proposed so that it can guarantee the required contact area for measuring the average adhesive forces. A pyrex glass substrate with circular patterns, which was fabricated by micromachining technique, is introduced in order to controll the contact area. The two types of mussel adhesive proteins, Celltak and recombinant-MGFP5, were tested by the proposed measuring method. The test results show that the adhesive force of the mussel adhesive proteins can be reliably measured by use of this method.
Powder blasting technique has been considered one of the most appropriate micro machining methods for hard and brittle materials, since the productivity is high and the heat layers caused by material removal are very thin. Recent development of special purposed parts, such as the parts for semiconductor processing, the parts for LCD, sensors for micro machine fabrication and so on, has been expanded. Thus, it is essential to develop powder blasting technologies for micromachining of hard and brittle materials such as glass, ceramics and so on. In this paper, the characteristics of powder blasted glass surface were tested under various blasting parameters. Finally, we proposed a predictive model for powder blasting process using the neural network and the response surface method. Detail analysis of the simulation results is carried out and the performance of two predictive models is compared.
The material processing by using ultrashort pulse laser, in recently, is actively applying into the micro machining and nano-machining technology since ultrashort pulse has so faster than the time which the electrons energy absorbing photon energy is transmitted to surrounding lattice-phonon that it has many advantages in point of machining. The micro machining of metallic thin film on the plain glass is widely used in the fields such as mask repairing for semiconductor, fabrication of photonic crystal, MEMS devices and data storage devices. Therefore, it is important to secure the machining technology of the sub-micron size. In this research, we set up the machining system by using ultrashort pulse laser and conduct on the Cr 200nm thin film ablation experiments of spot and line with the variables such as energy, pulse number, speed, and so on. And we observed the characteristics of surrounding heat-affected zone and by-products appeared in critical energy density and higher energy density through SEM, and also examined the machining features between in He gas atmosphere which make pulse change minimized by nonlinear effect and in the air. Finally, the pit size of 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter and the line width of 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ could be obtained.
Recently, mass spectrometers are widely used for in-situ chemical analysis. It has rapid response and high sensitivity. In this paper, we present the fabrication and test of a cold cathode emitter for micro mass spectrometer using CNTs(Carbon nano tubes). The CNTs have good mechanical, electrical and chemical characteristics. So they have a long life time and strong robustness. The micro mass spectrometer is composed of the glass substrate and the silicon substrate. The glass substrate is constructed by electrodes for TOF(Time-of-flight) which analyze an ion with mass to charge ratio as ion separator. The silicon substrate is highly doped wafer which is patterned for gate electrode and then 100 11m dry etching to grow the CNTs as the electron emitter. The CNTs are grown by HFCVD(Hot filament chemical vapor deposition) with sputtering the catalyst. We successfully attained to grow the CNTs and to test the characteristics.

The o]d technique of sandblasting which has been used for paint or scale removing, deburring, and glass decorating has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for brittle materials, capable of producing micro structures larger than $100\mu\textrm{m}$. In this study, we investigated the effect of the size of abrasive and the stand-off distance on the machinability of SUS 304. The varying parameters were the impact angle $90^{\circ}$, scanning times of nozzle 10 and the different nozzle height between 70mm and 140mm. The diameter of dot pattern were 0.2mm. The powder were alumina sharp particles, WA #600, #800 and #2000. The blasting pressure of powder at 0.3 Mpa.
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the heat trensfer characteristic of micro pipe (MHP) array with 38 triangular microgrooves. A heat pipe is an effective heat exchanger operating without external power. The heat pipe transfers heat by means of the latent heat of vaporization and two-phase fluid flow driven by the capillary force. The overall size of the MHP array can be put undermeath a microelectonic die and integrated into the electrronic package of a microelectronin device to dissipate the heat from the die. The MHP array is fabricated by micromachining with a silicon wafer and a glass substrate. The MHP was filled with water and sealed. The experimental results show the temperature decrease of 12.1$^{\circ}C$ at the evaporator section for the input power of 5.9 W and the improvement of 28% in the heat transfer rate.
This paper presents the PDMS surface characteristic change after the plasma process and the electroosmotic flow control technique for the two-dimensional focusing in the micro channels made of PDMS and glass. The channels are fabricated by plastic molding and micromachining technique. To observe the surface characteristic change as time elapses, we measure the contact angle of water on the surface and the velocity of the electroosmotic flow in a channel. The electric field adequate for focusing of a core flow in a confluence channel is obtained by the experiment. The computer simulation is performed to obtain the width and the depth of the core flow for several junction angles of the confluence channel.
We report experimental results on the periodic patterning using a Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser (800nm, 100fs, 1kHz). Periodic structures with reproducible basic patterns are produced both on the surface and inside transparent materials. Period patterning for the application to display panel is widely investigated. Also, the submicron dot and line patterns are fabricated inside fused silica glass, which is important for the formation of diffraction grating in integrated optical circuit. finally, we demonstrate the utility of the femtosecond laser application to optical memory by fabricating the three-dimensional dot patterns.
