A Case Report about Treatment of Childhood Conversion Disorder with Psychotherapy of Oriental Medicine -The Giungoroen(至言高論), Supportive Psychotherapy and Behavioral Therapy- (한의학 정신요법을 이용한 소아 전환장애 환자 1례 - 지언고론요법(至言高論療法), 지지적 정신치료와 행동치료 -)

  • Objectives : This case report presents a 7-year-old female patient diagnosed with conversion disorder improved by application of oriental medical psychotherapy, the Giungoroen. Her chief complaint was dysesthesia of anal. Methods : Through interview and several psychological testing such as HTP test, DAF test, JTCI 7-11, we assessed her psychological state and seek for the psychological reason induced her physical symptom, dysesthesia of anal. After assessment we concluded her main psychological problem was loss of love relationship with her parents. So we decided to use supportive psychological therapy and behavioral therapy-like changing upbringing attitudes of her parents, for example- with Herbal medicine treatment. Results : After 2-month of therapeutic period, chief physical symptom of patient-dysesthesia of anal-was reduced to 20% compared with first visit day. Conclusions : The Giungoroen corresponds to supportive psychotherapy and behavioral therapy. And this oriental medical psychotherapy is fairly effective on the treatment of conversion disorder in childhood.

  • Objectives: In order to overcome psychotherapeutic problems though the theory of oriental medicine by means of the Giungoroen(至言高論-wise saying and lofty opinion). Methods: This research was done by comparing the contents of psychotherapeutic ancient clinical document with the western medical method of psychotherapy Results: 1. Inquire into the clinical document, the psychotherapy is used treatment of wide area disease inclusive of neuropsychiatric disease different from the western medicine. 2. Inquire into the method of psychotherapy, the supportive psychotherapy and behavior therapy is applied. 3. In case of psychotherapy and treatment of medicines is done at the same time, treatment of medicines followed psychotherapy. 4. A viewpoint of Yusic(唯識-vijnaptim-atra)-a field of Buddhism, possibility of psychotherapy is showed. 5. A doctor's oriental thought and oriental medical Preservation of Health view was based. 6. The change of patient's the emotion and will is focused than disease itself. Conclusion: When western medical method of psychotherapy is complemented by a oriental thought and oriental medical Preservation of Health view, the good effects is hoped in psychotherapy.

A Clinical Report of a Psychosomatic patient who has treated by Giungoroen-therapy based on Song Psychotherapy (노래 심리 치료를 활용한 지언고론요법(至言高論療法)을 적용하여 호전된 심신증(心身證)환자 1예(例) 보고)

  • Objectives : This study was performed to report the effect of Giungoroen-therapy based on song psychotherapy in the treatment resistant patient with psychosomatic disease. Methods : A 43 year-old female patient suffered from headache, facial numbness, right upper and lower limb's numbness, ptosis, chest discomfort, dysarthria without identifiable physical cause. We diagnosed her as psychosomatic disease, and tried to apply Giungoroen-therapy with Korean traditional medical treatment. But she was resistant to Giungoroen-therapy. So we applied Giungoroen-therapy based on song psychotherapy. Results : After the Giungoroen-therapy based on song psychotherapy, the patient revealed her unrecognized hidden issues and got some insights about herself. Then the symptoms, such as headache, facial numbness, right upper and lower limb's numbness, ptosis, chest discomfort and dysarthria were reduced considerably. Conclusions : These results suggest that Giungoroen-therapy based on song psychotherapy can be effective on improvement of resistant psychosomatic disease.

Application of Giungoroen-Therapy through a Postoperative Delirium Case (수술 후 섬망 치험 1례를 통해 본 지언고론요법의 활용)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the effectiveness of the combination of Giungoroen-therapy, as well as other Korean medicine therapy on postoperative delirium. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with postoperative delirium, that occurred after arthroscopic debridement two months before hospitalization. The patient received Giungoroen-therapy in addition to conventional Korean Medicine treatment, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and moxibustion. The evaluation variables to check the effectiveness of the interventions, were the Korean Nursing Delirium Screening Scale (Korean Nu-DESC) and the Korean Version of the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (K-DRS-R-98). Results: During the hospitalization period, the Korean Nu-DESC score decreased from 5 to 1, and the K-DRS-R-98 score decreased from 36 to 23. The subjective expression of anxiety had been reduced. Conclusions: The combination of Giungoroen-therapy, as well as other Korean medicine therapy including acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine may be useful in alleviating postoperative delirium.

  • Social phobia is a symptom that is characterized as a feeling anxiety and fear in front of others in social situations. The patient of our hospital is 34-years-old man who has symptoms such as avoiding other people, being flushed of his face and trembling of his hands when he meets other person. Thus, he has been treated by applying acupuncture treatment, taking herb medicine, and Giungoroen & Kyungjapyungji of the oriental psychotherapy. In 3 months, his condition of this disease got improved. This case suggested one approach for the treatment of this disease and we consider that the oriental psychotherapy such as Giungoroen and Kyungjapyungji is useful in treatment of this disease.

A case report of Korean medicine treatment including Giungoroen-therapy for adhesive capsulitis with insomnia (불면증을 동반한 유착성 관절낭염에 대한 지언고론요법 포함 한의치료 1례)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of insomnia treatment applied with Giungoroen-therapy in relieving adhesive capsulitis. Methods: There is a patient who has had insomnia symptoms for 2 years ago and complained of shoulder pain from 5 months ago. Korean medicine treatment like acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine and Giungoroen -therapy was applied to this patient. As evaluation tools, the numeral rating scale(NRS), a tool for pain evaluation and the Insomnia Severity Index(ISI), a sleep quality evaluation tool, were used. After 12 days of treatment, the range of motion of the shoulder joint increased and the NRS score improved from 8 to 5 and the ISI score improved from 22 to 16. Conclusion: For the treatment of adhesive capsulitis, it can be effective to relieve insomnia by applying Korean medicine treatments, including Giungoroen-therapy.

  • This is a case report about agoraphobia patient treated with oriental medical psychotherapy. We treated with Kyungja-pyungji(Stabilization of anxiety) treatment, Ii- Jeung-Byun-Qi(movement of emotion and degeneration of Qi) treatment, Giungoroen-Focusing(wise saying and lofty opinion) method for 8 weeks. She could not go out herself without her mother for the first teatment time, but she improved step and she could go by herself to the public place at the last time. We found out that the application of systemic oriental medical psychotherapy is effective for the agoraphobia disorder. Therefore, we presented application of oriental medical psychotherapy with bibliological research.

  • Objectives : Postpartum depression is a kind of serious problem which influences on the parturients, her family. In this case we tried psychotherapy to postpartum depression patient. Methods : We treated the patient with Oriental psychotherapy. And then we compared postpartum depression before treatment with on after treatment by Korean version of Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale(K-EPDS). Results : After treatments, the clinical symptoms were improved and K-EPDS was reduced 16 to 6. Conclusions : Oriental psychotherapy is effective on postpartum depression.
