To estimate pollution sources in the watershed with various industries, the simulation of contamination route and distribution of 2-methyl-4,6-dinitriophenol(DNOC) were performed with a numerical model Hydro Geo Sphere. This study was performed calculations of the load using the measured concentration and simulated flow rate. And, the river was divided by the sampling sites at the mainstream, and the contribution rate at downstream sampling sites was calculated for each section. The results showed the concentration of the downstream sampling sites were decided by the concentration of upstream sites, and the contribution rates of the tributaries were calculated below 10%. The results also showed that the impact of the potential sources in Section 1(Geumho1 ~ Geumho2) and Section 5(Geumho5 ~ Geumho6) was larger than in the other area. In Section1 and Section5, It seemed to require detailed investigation.
Duration curves describe the percentage of time that a certain water quality (total/fecal coliform (=TC/FC)) or discharge is exceeded. The curves methodology are usually based on daily records and are useful in estimating how many days per year and event will be exceeded. The technique was further applied to estimated TC/FC loading to the Geumho River, using the daily mean flow rate and TC/FC concentration data during January, 2001 and December, 2011 for the Geumhogang6 (=Seongseo water level station) where an automated monitoring station is located in Gangchang-bridge. Low flow of the Seongseo (=11.1 cms) was equivalent to 75.3% on an exceedance probability scale. Load Duration curve for TC/FC loading at the Seongseo was constructed. Standard load duration curve was constructed with the water quality criteria for class III (TC/FC concentration = 5000/1000 CFU/ 100 mL). By plotting TC/FC observed load duration curve with standard load duration curve, it could be revealed that water quality do not meet the desired water quality for 68.8/11.2% on an exceedance probability scale. IF linear correlation between flow rate and coliform concentration is assumed, it can be interpreted that water quality exceed desired criteria when daily average flow rate is over 11.9/109.9 cms.

For areas with the diverse contamination sources, the change of 4-nitrophenol contamination and impact of potential contamination sources have been evaluated using monitoring data and a numerical model (HydroGeoSphere). The model considered several parameters including land cover, precipitation, and flow rate. And, the model has been performed to investigate the effect of decay rate of 4-nitrophenol. The results of the simulations showed that the influence on 4-nitrophenol in downstream was mainly greater than that in upstream, and the tributaries did not significantly affect the mainstream because of their low flow rates. In addition, the effect of contamination sources was simulated for each section, then the measured data were higher than the corresponding simulated data in most sections of the Geumho river. In particular, the impact of the potential contamination sources in the upstream area was much higher than that in the other area, thus more monitoring data for the upstream area is required.
This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial resistance, presence of ${\beta}$-lactamase genes and integrons in 83 ESBL-producing Escherichia coli isolated from Nakdong river and Geumho river in Daegu. Among the ${\beta}$-lactam antimicrobials, all isolates were resistant to ampicillin, cephalothin, cefamandole and cefotaxime, followed by piperacillin (98.8%), ampicillin/sulbactam (86.7%), aztreonam (60.2%) and cefepime (59.0%), whereas resistance to piperacillin/tazobacram, ticarcillin/clavulanic acid and cefoxitin was less than 30%. Many of the ESBL-producing Escherichia coli were also resistant to non-${\beta}$-lactams antimicrobials such as nalidixic acid (83.1%), sulfonamides (72.3%), ciprofloxacin (62.7%) and gentamicin (38.6%). All isolates showed resistance to seven or more antimicrobial agents. The most frequently detected gene was $bla_{TEM+CTX-M}$ (49.4%), followed by $bla_{CTX-M}$ (27.7%), $bla_{TEM}$ (6.0%) and $bla_{OXA}$ (1.2%). But $bla_{SHV}$ was not found. Class 1 integrons were found in 61.4% (51 isolates) of isolates, however, class 2 and 3 integrons were not detected. The results showed water from Nakdong river and Geumho river is contaminated with ESBL-producing E. coli isolates. These results suggest the need for further investigation of antibiotic resistant bacteria to prevent public health impacts in the water environment.
In order to establish the watershed water quality management strategy of Total Maximum Daily Load(TMDL), it is necessary to understand the relationship between water quality component impacts, and to identify the impacts on downstream target point of watershed water quality management of waste treatment plant(WTP) discharge and upstream/tributary loads. In this study, we determined the impacts between the water quality contaminants, and traced water pollution sources using monitoring data of ministry of environment in tributaries and main stream and WTP monitoring data. Test area is set to Geumho river basin which has characteristics of urban and rural area and composes of GeumhoA, GeumhoB, GeumhoC watershed units in TMDL. The clustering with five grades of discharge data and the correlation analysis were performed through the FDC(Flow duration curve) analysis, which more clearly identified the points and water contaminants deteriorating target water quality of downstream point. This can be used as a tool for tracing pollutants with FDC analysis, and will help us establish the watershed water quality management strategy for TMDL target point in watershed more effectively.

This research is related to house entrance recognition of residents, who have long kept the entrance without a closing door in Eoeun village, Geumho, Keongbook. The purpose of the research was to interpret the recognition of a house entrance in Eoeun village with the theories of cultural ecology. Final results suggest the belief for all the inhabitant\`s welfare through anthropological adaptation to habitat. The fish in the Geumho River had sought the shelter from the heavy rain in summer. The Eoeun forest at the entrance of the village provided good shelter for the fish. The Eoeun residents thought that the safe shelter fur the river fish is also semantic for the people. They believed that if the fish could not find shelter, i.e., the Eoeun forest and left, the village could be not safe for their life. Therefore, even the entrance of house should be structurely opened for the fish shelter in a symbolic sense. The entrance without a closing door has implied that their life should depend upon their natural environments because they have believed that till now there have been no considerable accidents in the village.

This paper has obtained the following results by investigating the physical geographical names appeared on the school songs of the primary secondary school in Daegu metropolitan city. 1) The physical geographical names appeared many on the school songs in the old-established schools are the traditional physical geographical names such as The Mt. Palgong, The Geumho river, The Nakdong river, The Mt. Biseul and the physical geographical names related to the identity of Daegu such as Dalgubeol, The Mt. Taebaek, Seorabeol and so forth. 2) The physical geographical names appeared many on the school songs in the primary schools are The Mt. Palgong, The Geumho river, The Nakdong river, and The Mt. Biseul in order, while those appeared many on the school songs in the secondary schools are The Mt. Palgong, The Geumho river, The Nakdong river, and The Mt. Biseul in order. 3) Since The Mt. Taebaek and Seorabeol relatively often appear in the physical geographical names, we can find the relationship between Daegu and Silla Dynasty, and that between The Mt. Palgong and The Mt. Taebaek from the viewpoint of feng shui. 4) In case of the school songs in the schools distributed around the area of Suseong-Gu and DalSeo-Gu which are newly developed, the physical geographical names within the two areas in addition to the traditional physical geographical names(including the physical geographical names related to the identity of Daegu) appeared many on the school songs. 5) The Mt. Palgong, which is the representative physical geographical name of Daegu, almost did not appear on the school songs of the schools within the Dalseong-Gun. In other words, the residents in the Dalseong-Gun have recognized the mountain based on The Mt. Biseul rather than The Mt. Palgong. 6) It is special that The Sincheon amounting to the central stream in Daegu almost did not appear on the school songs. 7) It is concluded that the physical geographical names found in this paper can be not only set as main ecological space in Daegu area but also considered in top priority as ecological space in the various plans of development.
In view of ever rising water pollution problems of river in the vicinity of large urban communities, the author has made an investigation on the pollution of water sampled from Han River (Seoul area) and Nakdong River (Daegu city area) during the period from July to December, 1970. The water samples were taken twice a month during the study period of 6 months from 7 points (locations) along the main stream of Han River at Seoul city and 5 points of Nakdong River at Daegu city. The samples ware measured and analyzed in accordance with the recognized methods in the 'Standard Methods for Examination of Water and waste' by American Public Health Association. The obtained results are as follows : I. Han River. 1. Average turbidity was 5.1 units ranging from 1 to 10 units and the turbidity of down stream was higher than that of the upper stream. 2. pH value showed slight alkalinity (mean;7.2) except Yunchang-Dong (6.9). 3. The mean value of Dissolved Oxygen contents (D.O) was 7.2 ppm. (range of 3.4-10.5ppm.). D.O. of the upper stream (8.2 ppm. at Walker Hill boating place, 8.0 ppm. at the Gwangzang Bridge and Ddookdo) was higher than that of he downstream (5.6ppm. at Yumchang-Dong, 6.4 ppm. at the 2nd Han River Bridge), and D.O. in the winter season was higher than that in the summer season, respectively. 4 The mean value of the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (B.O.D.) was 28.3 ppm. (range of 6.2-64.8 ppm.). The mean value of B.O.D. was 48.7 ppm. at Yumchang-Dong, 42.3 ppm. at the 2nd Han River Bridge, 34.0 ppm. at the 1st nan River Bridge, 28.5 ppm. at the 3rd Han River Bridge, 19.2 ppm. at Dookdo, 13.2 ppm. at the Gwangzang Bridge, and 10.2 ppm. at the Walker Hill boating place in order of value. B.O.D. in July and August (35.6 and 34.5 ppm.) were the highest and that in November and December (18.6 and 21.2 ppm.) were the lowest. 5. Suspended Solids (SS) were from 15.0 to 667.0 ppm. with the mean of 222.1 ppm. 'Suspended Solids' of the water samples at Yumchang-Dong and the 2nd Han River Bridge were found to be 378.1 ppm. and 283.9 ppm. respectively which were higher than at the Gwangzang Bridge (134.1 ppm.) and at Walker Hill boating place (79.3ppm.). 6. Coliform colonies counting of the water samples ranged from $0-2,500{\times}10/100ml$. with the mean value of $205.6{\times}10/100ml$. The most contaminated water sample by coliform were from the point of the 2nd Han River Bridge with $640.8{\times}10/100ml$ while the lowest ones were from Walker Hill boating place with $17.2{\times}10/100ml$. There was also a seasonal variation in coliform contamination that is the higher in summer and the lower in winter. II. Nakdong River 1. The mean value of turbidity was 2.3 units with range of 0 to 9.0 units. The highest point was at Geumho River (7.2 units). and the lowest point was at Gangzung and Moonsan (0.45 and 0.41 units). 2. The mean value of pH was 7.5 (range of 7.1-8.5) and highest point was Geumho River with 8.5. 3. The mean value of D.O. was 8.1 ppm. (range of 3.4-11.2 ppm.). D.O. of the upper stream showed higher value than that of the down stream, and the winter season than the summer season. 4. B.O.D. ranged from 2.6 to 57.0 ppm. (mean; 20.4ppm.). The water sample at Geumho River showed the highest value (41.5 ppm.) while at Moonsan and Gangzung showed the lowest (4.6 and 4.7 ppm.). 5. The mean value of suspended solids was 48.7 ppm. (range of 4.0-182.0 ppm.). The highest month was July (63.7ppm.) and August (62.1 ppm.) and the lowest month was October (37.0 ppm.) and December (24.4 ppm.). 6. The mean value of the coliform colonies was $22.7{\times}10/100ml$. (range of $0-243{\times}10/100ml$.). The highest number of the colonies was found in the sample water at the Whawon recreation area ($50.5{\times}10/100ml$.) followed by the Geumho River ($33.9{\times}10/100ml$.), the Goryung Bridge ($28.3{\times}10/100ml$.), Gangzung($0.7{\times}10/100ml$), and Moonsan ($0.6{\times}10/100ml$.).
The Herbal Vegetation on Running Waterside in the Main Stream of Genmho River, Daegu and Gyeongsanbuk-do, Korea was investigated by the methodology from June to August of 1994 and analyzed distribution characteristics of vegetation that was related Water Environment. The vegetation is divided into 6 communities of Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community, Persicaria thunbergii community, Impatiens textori community, Zizania latifoloa community, Phragmites communis community and Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola community. A BOD and COD that indicate degree of contamination in water were showed 0.9 ppm and 1.6 ppm at upstream and 15.9 ppm and 24.8 ppm at downstream, respectively. The distribution patterns of vegetation have dominated by Impatiens textoricommunity in the upstream, by Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community from upstream to mid-upstream, by Persicaria thunbergii community from upstream to midstream, by Zizania latifoloa community from nidstream to mid-downstream and by Phragmites communis community and Echinochloa crus-galli var. oryzicola community from mid-downstream to downstream. Especially, I suggested that Persicaria sieboldi-Persicaria hydropiper community and Persicaria thunbergii community will use as biotic indicator in water environment.
In this study, we investigated the correlation between the number of cyanobacterial species and the water quality factors after installation of Nakdong river weirs. Factor analyses of water quality factors were also performed. The results of correlations showed that there was no significant water quality with the cyanobacterial concentration but the correlation coefficient of nutrients increased from the upstream to the downstream. There was a significant correlation between W T and pH as important water quality factors for the growth of cyanobacteria. In the downstream region of Nakdong river, algae were more frequently detected than in the upstream region, and the blooms of algae species seem to be influenced by the higher pH and the influx of the phosphorus from the upstream tributaries. Nutrient concentration was higher in the downstream region than in the upstream region due to the effects of tributaries Geumho river and Nam river in Nakdong river. As a result of the factor analyses, nitrogen species were the principal factors in the upper region, and phorsphorus species were the principal factors in the downstream region.
