  • This paper derives Isogeometric analysis and post-processing method of surface that are generated by NURBS basis function for accurate geometric modeling and structure analysis of free-form. By deforming these parameters that are consisted of control points, knots, polynomial, variable geometric models are derived. The basis function that is used to Isogeometric analysis is same to the basis function of NURBS that is used to generate geometric models. For performing isogeometric analysis, h-p-k refinement is performed without changing of original geometry. To visualize the results of isogeometric analysis that control points' displacements, post-processing method that is the interface method between IGES format and Rhinoceros is derived.

  • Geometric transformations require many operations in displaying moving 3D objects on the screen and a fast computation is a important problem in CAD or animation applications. The general method to compute the transformation coordinates of an object represented by an octree must perform the operations on every node. This paper proposes an efficient method that computes the rectangular coordinates of the vertices of the octree nodes into the coordinates of the universe space using the basicvectors in order to compute quickly geometric transformations of 3D images represented by an octree. The coordinates of the vertices of each octant are computed by using the formula presented here, which requies additions and multiplications by powers of 2. This method has a very fast execution time and is compared with the general computation method.

  • In this paper. we propose a medical image processing method for detection of periodontal disease by geometric analysis on dental digital radiography. This paper proposes the method of an automatic image alignment and detection of minute changes, to overcome defects in the conventional subtraction radiography by image processing technique, that is necessary for getting subtraction image and ROI(Region Of Interest) focused on a selection method using the geometric features in target images. Therefore, we use these methods because they give accuracy, consistency and objective information or data to results. In result, easily and visually we can identify minute differences in the affected parts whether they have problems or not, and using application system.

  • The welded metal bellows is commonly manufactured by welding pairs of washer-shaped discs of thin sheet metal stamped from strip stock in thickness from 0.025 to 0.254 mm. The discs, or diaphragms, are formed with mating circumferential corrugations. In this study, the diaphragms were welded by using a CW Nd: YAG laser to form metal bellows. The bellows was fixed on a jig and compressed axially, while Cu-rings were installed between belows edges for intimate contact of edges. The difference between the inner diameter of bellows and jig shaft causes an eccentricity, while the tolerance between motor shaft and jig shaft causes a wobble type motion. A vision sensor which is based on the optical triangulation was used for seam tracking. An image processing algorithm which can distinguish the image by bellows edge from that by Cu-ring was developed. The geometric relationship which describes the eccentricity and wobble type motion was modeled. The seam tracking using the image processing algorithm and the geometric modeling was performed successfully.

  • In this paper, we propose a comprehensive geometric correction algorithm of Along Track Scanning Radiometer(ATSR) images. The procedure consists of two cascaded modules; precorrection and fine co-location. The pre-correction algorithm is based on the navigation model which was derived in mathematical forms. This model was applied for correction raw(un-geolocated) ATSR images. The non-systematic geometric errors are also introduced as the limitation of the geometric correction by this analytical method. A fast and automatic algorithm is also presented in the paper for co-locating nadir and forward views of the ATSR images by using a binary cross-correlation matching technique. It removes small non-systematic errors which cannot be corrected by the analytic method. The proposed algorithm does not require any auxiliary informations, or a priori processing and avoiding the imperfect co-registratio problem observed with multiple channels. Coastlines in images are detected by a ragion segmentation and an automatic thresholding technique. The matching procedure is carried out with binaty coastline images (nadir and forward), and it gives comparable accuracy and faster processing than a patch based matching technique. This technique automatically reduces non-systematic errors between two views to .$\pm$ 1 pixel.

  • This study is concerned with the surface quality of products according to the material and coating condition of the forming tool in incremental sheet forming. Three forming tools, SKD11 with and without diamond-like-coating (DLC) and polymer tool tip, were used to form conical and pyramidal geometries to take into account the influence of friction between the forming tool and the sheet on the surface quality including geometric accuracy of deformed samples. Each test was performed using SUS304 with a thickness of 0.4 mm according to different incremental depths per lap of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm for the contour tool path, considering the increase in normal force which is associated with the frictional behavior during local deformation. The surface quality was then investigated through surface roughness measured with KEYENCE VR-6000 and relative strain distribution including deformed shape analyzed with ARGUS which is a non-contact optical strain measurement system. Differences between 3D CAD surfaces and captured geometry from experiments were evaluated to compare the effect of friction on geometric accuracy. From comparisons of experimental results, it was revealed that the polymer-based tool tip can improve surface quality and geometric accuracy by reducing the undesired material flow due to local friction in the increment sheet forming process.

  • A drum cam with rotational follower has a cam mechanism and it is mainly used in its application such as index table and ATC of machine tool. Also its use can reduce the backlash in its kinematic movement. To machine the drum cam with rotational follower, 5-axis CNC machine tool is generally used and its kinematic principle is included in it's design. Until now, the commercialized CAM software can't cover the application of the drum cam machining. Even if, some special software was developed for machining a drum cam, the post processing method for finish machining was not developed yet. And to overcome the problem, the form tool is still used on the tool path of rough machining. This study includes the induction of the post processing technique for the finish machining of drum cam on three 5-axis CNC machine tools, type AC, AB and BC. To prove the finishing geometric profile, the result was clearly verified through inspection and geometric measurement after direct machining of the drum cam in AC type 5-axis machine tool in this study.

  • Computational Geometry is concerned with the design and analysis of computational algorithms which solve geometry problems. Geometry problems have a large number of applications areas such as pattern recognition, image processing, computer graphics, VLSI design and statistics since they involve inherently geometric problems for which efficient algorithms have to be developed. Several parallel algorithms, based on various parallel computation models, have been proposed for solving geometric problems. We review the current status of the parallel algorithms in computational geometry.
