The study is concerned with the analysis of axisymmetric hydroforming with controlled pressure by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The finite element method is employed to obtain the detailed information including the distribution of stresses and strains and geometry changes. Experiments are carried out for hydroforming of cold-rolled steel sheets with the developed CNC hydroforming press which is pressure-controlled according to the fluid pressure vs.-stroke relationship given by the upper bound. Four types of punches are used for the experiments. The computed results are in good agreements with the experimental observation in geometric change and thickness variation. The present analysis permits the prediction of stresses, strains, geometric changes. The effects of Lankford value and workhardening exponent on thickness strains in hydroforming are also discussed. It is thus shown that the present method can be applied to the effective design of axisymmetric hydrooforming processes.
The present paper researches post-buckling behaviors of geometrically imperfect concrete beam resting on elastic foundation reinforced with graphene oxide powders (GOPs) based on finite element method (FEM). Distribution of GOPs are considered as uniform and linearly graded through the thickness. Geometric imperfection is considered as first buckling mode shape of the beam, the GOP reinforced beam is rested in initial position. The material properties of GOP reinforced composite have been calculated via employment of Halpin-Tsai micromechanical scheme. The provided refined beam element verifies the shear deformation impacts needless of any shear correction coefficient. The post-buckling load-deflections relations have been calculated via solving the governing equations having cubic non-linearity implementing FEM. Obtained findings indicate the importance of GOP distributions, GOP weight fraction, matrix material, geometric imperfection, shear deformation and foundation parameters on nonlinear buckling behavior of GOP reinforced beam.

After long-term service in deep ocean, pipelines are usually suffered from corrosions, which may greatly influence the Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) behavior of pipes. Thus, we investigate the VIV of defective pipelines. The geometric nonlinearity due to large deformation of pipes and nonlinearity in vortex-induced force are simulated. This nonlinear vibration system is simulated with finite element method and solved by direct integration method with incremental algorithm. Two kinds of defects, corrosion pits and volumetric flaws, and their effects of depth and range on VIV responses are investigated. A new finite element is developed to simulate corrosion pits. Defects are found to aggravate VIV displacement response only if environmental flow rate is less than resonance flow rate. As the defect depth grows, the stress responses increase, however, the increase of the defect range reduces the stress response at corroded part. The volumetric flaws affect VIV response stronger than the corrosion pits.

The present study is concerned with the analysis of three-dimensional sheet metal forming process by the upper-bound method. For the analysis a systematic approach is necessary for the expression of geometric configuration of the deforming workpiece. In the present paper geometric configuration is constructed by three unit surfaces which are defined by sweeping the vertical section curves and boundary curve. The principal components of strain increment during the process is calculated directly from the change of geometric configuration for an arbitrary triangular element. The corresponding solution is found through optimization of the total energy consumption with respect to some parameters assumed in the velocity field and geometric profile. In order to verify the effectiveness of the present method, hydrostatic bulging of a rectangular disphragm is analyzed and the computation by the present method for the geometric shape renders the good result. From the comparison of the present results with the existing experimental results and elastic-plastic finite element solutions, good agreements have been obtained for the pressure curves, polar membrane strains and pressure distributions. The present method can thus be further applied to the analysis of other three-dimensional sheet metal forming processes.

Dome structures of pressure vessels subjected to internal pressure are usually analyzed by linear elastic theory assuming small deformation. Geometric and material nonlinear behaviors appear in actual dome structures because of large deformation and loads exceeding yield strength. In this paper, linear and nonlinear analyses were performed for various hemispherical and torispherical domes to check the effects of geometric and material nonliearity on the stress and displacement by the finite element method. The effect of the geometric nonlinearity decreased the stress levels a lot for very thin general torispherical domes, which enables more realistic and effective design. The material nonlinear effects are negligible for hemispherical and optimum torispherical domes, and those are large for most of the general torispherical domes.
In this paper we find the germ of geometric interpretation of complex number in the Euclid Element and try to show the evolution of geometric interpretation of complex number by through Descarte, Wallis, Vessel. As a result, relations and differences between them are found. They related line with complex number and interpreted complex number geometrically by generalizing the multiplication operation.
It is demonstrated that the torque performance of the flux barrier type synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) can be improved in terms of geometric parameters. Torque ana power factor are related to the difference of inductances and the saliency ratio. And these inductance characteristics are determined by the geometric parameters of rotor: the number of layers. the width of iron to the width of flux barrier($K_w$). slot number and shape, airgap, bridge, etc. The relationship between geometric parameters. especially, $K_w$ and motor performance will be studied. This paper shows that torque and power factor are improved through redesign with considering geometric parameters. Performance comparisons of proto type SynRM and improved SynRM are given by FEA(Finite Element Analysis).
In this study, parametric analyses on a hoop-type PZT (lead-zirconate-titanate) interface are performed to estimate the effects of the PZT interface's materials and geometries on sensitivities of impedance responses under strand breakage. The paper provides a guideline for installing the PZT interface suitable in tendon anchorages for damage-sensitive impedance signatures. Firstly, the concept of the PZT interface-based impedance monitoring technique in prestressed tendon anchorage is briefly described. A FE (finite element) analysis is conducted on a multi-strands anchorage equipped with a hoop-type PZT interface for analyzing materials and geometric effects. Various material properties, geometric sizes of the interface, and PZT sensor are simulated under two states of prestressing force for acquiring impedance responses. Changes in impedance signals are statistically quantified to analyze the effect of these factors on damage-sensitive impedance monitoring in the tendon anchorage. Finally, experimental analyses are performed to demonstrate the effects of materials and geometrical properties of the PZT interface on damage-sensitive impedance monitoring.

CAD databases are the core element to the management of product information. A key to the successful use of the databases is a rational method of query to and retrieval from the databases. Although it is parts geometry that users eager to retrieve from the CAD databases, no system yet supports geometry-based query. This paper aims at developing a new method of assessing geometric similarity which can serve as the basis of geometric query for CAD database. The proposed method uses ASVP (Alternating Sums of Volumes with Partitioning) decomposition that is a volumetric representation of a part obtained from its boundary representation. A measure of geometric similarity between two solid models is defined on their ASVP tree representations. The measure can take into account overall shapes of parte, shapes of features and their locations. Several properties that a similarity measure needs to satisfy are discussed. The geometric query developed in this paper can be used in a wide range of applications using CAD databases, which include similarity-based design retrieval, variant process planning, and components selection from part library. An experiment has been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, and the results are presented.

This study formulates a new geometric parameterization scheme to effectively address numerical analysis subject to the variation of the fiber radius of a square unit cell. In particular, the proposed mesh-morphing approach may lead to a parameterized weak form whose bilinear and linear forms are affine in the geometric parameter of interest, i.e. the fiber radius. As a result, we may certify the reduced basis analysis of a square unit cell model for any parameters in a predetermined parameter domain with a rigorous a posteriori error bound. To demonstrate the utility of the proposed geometric parameterization, we consider a two-dimensional, steady-state heat conduction analysis dependent on two parameters: a fiber radius and a thermal conductivity. For rapid yet rigorous a posteriori error evaluation, we estimate a lower bound of a coercivity constant via the min-θ method as well as the successive constraint method. Compared to the corresponding finite element analysis, the constructed reduced basis analysis may yield nearly the same solution at a computational speed about 29 times faster on average. In conclusion, the proposed geometric parameterization scheme is conducive for accurate yet efficient reduced basis analysis.
