  • In this work, we propose a new type of HDD Load/Unload(L/UL) suspension featuring shape memory alloy(SMA). The mechanical and thermal properties of the SMA film with respect to the material phase states are experimentally estimated and the SMA film is carefully integrated to the suspension. In order to obtain the desirable dynamic characteristics of the suspension during L/UL process, the design parameters of the SMA film such as geometric properties are determined by considering the vibration modes of the suspension related to the L/UL performance. After analyzing the modal characteristics of the proposed suspension, L/UL performance is evaluated through L/UL simulation by observing the vibration motion and minimum flying height of the slider during L/UL process.

  • Camera calibration in machine vision is the process of determining the intrinsic camera parameters and the three-dimensional (3D) position and orientation of the camera frame relative to a certain world coordinate system. On the other hand, Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy system is a very popular fuzzy system and approximates any nonlinear function to arbitrary accuracy with only a small number of fuzzy rules. It demonstrates not only nonlinear behavior but also transparent structure. In this paper, we present a novel and simple technique for camera calibration for machine vision using TSK fuzzy model. The proposed method divides the world into some regions according to camera view and uses the clustered 3D geometric knowledge. TSK fuzzy system is employed to estimate the camera parameters by combining partial information into complete 3D information. The experiments are performed to verify the proposed camera calibration.

  • Based on the minimum cutting time criteria, the tool path generation algorithm of a pocket machining is developed as a form of a built-in cycle for the WOP(workshop oriented programming) of a CNC controller. Based on the given CAD database and tool information, an optimal cutting depth and geometric properties can be generated, then six different tool paths will be generated internally and automatically. Finally, the G code which commands tool movements is generated for CNC machining.

  • Features are generic shapes with which engineers associate certain attributes and knowledge useful in reasoning about the product. Feature-based modeling systems support additional levels of information beyond those available in geometric modelers. The objective of this study is to develop a PC level feature-based modeling system which explicitly represents dimensions of the part. The feature-based modeler retains all the benefits of traditional B-rep. solid models, and represents the dimensions at a high level of a abstraction so that dimension driven geometry can be achieved.

  • In this paper, we present an approach for matching images from finding interesting points and applying new image interpolation algorithm. New algorithms are developed that automatically align the input images match them and reconstruct 3-D surfaces. The interpolation algorithm is designed to cope with simple shapes. The proposed image interpolation algorithm generate a rotation image about vertical axes by an any angle from 4 base images. Each base image that was obtained from CCD camera has an angle difference of 90$^{\circ}$ The proposed image interpolation algorithm use the geometric analysis of image and depth information.

  • Color image enhancement can be achieved easily by using linear form of coordinate system. But some popular color coordinate systems almost have nonlinear characteristics in the geometric form. In this paper, the proposed coordinate system has pseudo-linear form and based on IHS system which represents human color perception appropriately. And for the image intensity processing, an edge-preserving smoothing algorithm is presented.

  • To effectively use these functions many kinds of human-phone interface are used such as touch, voice, and gesture. However, the most important touch interface cannot be used in case of hand disabled person or busy both hands. Although eye tracking is a superb human-computer interface method, it has not been applied to smartphones because of the small screen size, the frequently changing geometric position between the user's face and phone screen, and the low resolution of the frontal cameras. In this paper, a new eye tracking method is proposed to act as a smartphone user interface. To maximize eye image resolution, a zoom lens and three infrared LEDs are adopted. Our proposed method has following novelties. Firstly, appropriate camera specification and image resolution are analyzed in order to smartphone based gaze tracking method. Secondly, facial movement is allowable in case of one eye region is included in image. Thirdly, the proposed method can be operated in case of both landscape and portrait screen modes. Fourthly, only two LED reflective positions are used in order to calculate gaze position on the basis of 2D geometric relation between reflective rectangle and screen. Fifthly, a prototype mock-up design module is made in order to confirm feasibility for applying to actual smart-phone. Experimental results showed that the gaze estimation error was about 31 pixels at a screen resolution of $480{\times}800$ and the average hit ratio of a $5{\times}4$ icon grid was 94.6%.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) shape recognition and distance recognition methods utilizing monocular camera systems have been required for field of virtual-reality, computer graphics, measurement technology and robot technology. There have been many studies regarding 3D shape and distance recognition based on geometric and optical information, and it is now possible to accurately measure the geometric information of an object at short range distances. However, these methods cannot currently be applied to long range objects. In the field of virtual-reality, all visual objects must be presented at widely varying ranges, even though some objects will be hazed over. In order to achieve distance recognition from a landscape image, we focused on the use of aerial perspective to simulate a type of depth perception and investigated the relationship between distance and color perception. The applicability of our proposed method was demonstrated in experimental results.

  • The development of new multimedia techniques such as 3D printing is increasingly attracting the public's attention towards 3D objects. An optimized robust and imperceptible watermarking method based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Weber Law is proposed for 3D polygonal models. The proposed approach partitions the host model into smaller sub meshes and generates a secret watermark from the sub meshes using Weber Law. ACO based optimized strength factor is identified for embedding the watermark. The secret watermark is embedded and extracted on the wavelet domain. The proposed scheme is robust against geometric and photometric attacks that overcomes the synchronization problem and authenticates the secret watermark from the distorted models. The primary characteristic of the proposed system is the flexibility achieved in data embedding capacity due to the optimized strength factor. Extensive simulation results shows enhanced performance of the recommended framework and robustness towards the most common attacks like geometric transformations, noise, cropping, mesh smoothening, and the combination of such attacks.

  • Although density peak clustering can often easily yield excellent results, there is still room for improvement when dealing with complex, high-dimensional datasets. One of the main limitations of this algorithm is its reliance on geometric distance as the sole similarity measurement. To address this limitation, we draw inspiration from the information bottleneck theory, and propose a novel density peak clustering algorithm that incorporates this theory as a similarity measure. Specifically, our algorithm utilizes the joint probability distribution between data objects and feature information, and employs the loss of mutual information as the measurement standard. This approach not only eliminates the potential for subjective error in selecting similarity method, but also enhances performance on datasets with multiple centers and high dimensionality. To evaluate the effectiveness of our algorithm, we conducted experiments using ten carefully selected datasets and compared the results with three other algorithms. The experimental results demonstrate that our information bottleneck-based density peaks clustering (IBDPC) algorithm consistently achieves high levels of accuracy, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool for data clustering tasks.
