  • The integrated design system for injection molding has been studied. The current CAD system do not provide mold designers with necessary function for CAD/CAPP/CAE interface except the geometric modeling capability. This paper describes a feature-based CAD system for mold and moldbase design which enables the concurrent design and CIM, with integrated design procedure, at the initial design stage of injection molding A new design methodology and resulting feature data files for this design system are also discussed.

  • A method for determining the geometric stability characteristics of a brake corner module (BCM) is presented. Since disc brake "squeal" noise typically occurs at unstable resonant frequencies of a system, the likelihood of disc brake squeal for a particular design can be determined. Finite element methods are used to derive complex eigenvalue for a brake corner module. Some unstable modes calculated by finite element methods correspond to squeal noise data. Through kinetic energy participation analysis for each part of BCM, we can efficiently predict squeal noise data.

  • It can be important framework data to monitor the change of land-use pattern of river boundary in design and management of river. This study analyzed the change of land-use pattern of Gab- and Yudeung River using time-series aerial images. To do this, we carried out radiation and geometric correction of image, and estimated land-use changes in inland and floodplain. As the analysis of inland, the ratio of residential, commercial, industrial, educational and public area, that is urbanized element, increases, but that of agricultural area shows a decline on the basis of 1990. Also, Minimum Distance Method, which is a kind of supervised classification method, is applied to extract water-body and sand bar layer in floodplain. As the analysis of land-use, the ratio of level-upped riverside land and water-body increases, but that of sand bar decreases. These time-series land use information can be important decision making data to evaluate the urbanization of river boundary, and especially it gives us goodness in river development project such as the composition of ecological habitat.

  • This paper describes an effective method to estimate a position of an automous vehicle equipped with a single CCD-camera along indoor passageways. Using the sequential image data from the self-movement of the vehicle, the position is estimated by integrating the approximated motion parameters. The detection of the yaw angle that is one of the motion parameter is difficult in general, e.g. slip or error for noise, therefore the different detection is presented, which is, without shaft encoders, based on a projection function for 2D-image data and a cross-correlation function so as to be robust for noise. The approximated geometric function to estimate the position is used to reduce the computational effort. To verify the effectiveness of the method, the analysis and the computational results are shown through the simulations. Furthermore, the experimental results by using the test vehicle for the real indoor passageway are shown.

  • The paper presents a sonar based map building method. The environment is a room or area inside a building, which is composed of four types of geometric primitives(corners, edges, cylinders, and walls). We also assume the environment can be modeled into two dimensional map in terms of planes(walls), points(corner and edge), and circle(cylinder). In a real world where most of the object surfaces are specular ones, a sonar sensor suffers from a multipath effect which results in a wrong interpretation of the location of an object. To reduce the effect and uncertainty, the method employs a simple thresholding technique for extracting circular arc features called regions of constant depth(RCD) from scanning sonar data. The usefulness of the approach is illustrated with the results produced by sets of experiments.

  • Human dummies are essential tools in the development of such sensible products as vehicles. Dummies are actively used not only in reach and view field tests, major ergonomic evaluations, but also in impact tests and perception evaluations. This study attempts to obtain possible correlations of human body segments from Korean anthropometric data. The investigation is focused on the description of human and dummy geometric and inertial properties. The modeling approach suggested is based on rigid body dynamics using fifteen individual body segments connected by joints. The segments are joined at locations representing the physical joints of the human body and have the mass of the body between body joints. For visualization, a three-dimension graphic technique is used ...

  • This paper proposes a circuit extractor which extracts a netlist from the CIF input file cntaining the layout mask artwork informations. The circuit extractor extracts transistors and their interconnections, and calculates circuit parameter such as parasitic resistance and parasitic capacitance from the mask informations. When calculating the parasitic resistance, we consider the current flow path to reduce the errors caused by the resistance approximation. Similarly, we consider the coupling capacitance which has an effect on the circuit characteristics, when the parasitic capacitances are calculated. Therefore, using these parameter values as an input to circuit simulation, the circuit characteristics such as delay time can be estimated accurately. The presented circuit extraction algorithm uses a multiple storage quad tree as a data sturucture for storing and searching the 2-dimensional geometric data of mask artwork. Also, the proposed algorithm is technologically independent to work across a wide range of MOS technologies without any change in the algorihm.

  • The robot motion control in the industrial robot is generally executed by the teach pendant. But, it requires much teaching time and workload to the operators. This study suggests the use of the robot motion control method by the computed keyboard in the industrial robot instead of the teach pendant. TES/CCS(Teaching Expert System/Cartesian Coordinate System) and TES/WCS(Teaching Expert System/World Coordinate System) that have been proposed to improve the robot motion control are applied for this concept. This study is intended to improve the robot motion control in TES/CCS. Parameter limitation problems in getting the motion data on position and posture of the robot in macro motion control are solved by proposed geometric algorithm. This result demonstrates reduction of the average teaching task time to the teaching position.

  • A computer aided design system for spur, helical, bevel and worm gears by using AutoCAD system and its AutoLISP computer language was newly developed in this study. Two methods are available for a designer to draw a gear. The first method needs the gear design parameters such as pressure, module, number of tooth, shaft angle, velocity, materials, etc. When the gear design parameters are inputted, a gear is drawn in AutoCAD system and maximum allowable power and shaft diameter are calculated additionally. The second method calculates all dimensions and gear design parameters to draw a gear when the information such as transmission, reduction ratio, rpm, materials and pressure are inputted. The system includes four programs. Each program is composed of a data input module, a database module, a strength calculation module, a drawing module, a text module and a drawing edit module. In conclusion, the CAD system would be widely used in companies to find the geometric data and manufacturing course.

  • Feature restoration is that restore feature to 3D solid model using the feature information in STEP AP224. Feature is very important in CAPP, but feature information is defined very complicated in STEP AP224. This paper recommends the algorithm of extraction the feature information in physical STEP AP224file. This program import STEP AP224 file, parse the geometric and topological information, the tolerance data, and feature information line-by-line. After importation and parsing, store data into database. Feature restoration module analyze database including feature information, extract feature information, e.g. feature type, feature's parameter, etc., analyze the relationship and then restore feature to 3D solid model.
