  • The present study analyzed the spatial characteristics of S village according to the Feng-Shui theory(風水理論). People's life span is affected by several factors including hereditary constitution, dietary life and life habits but recently there is an opinion that longevity village in Korea are commonly located in areas at a proper altitude. The objective of the present study was to basic investigate the characteristics of S village from the viewpoint of Feng-Shui(風水). As for this study, it will be given help to a longevity village plan. For this purpose, we conducted field survey and map investigation of the natural geographic situation of S village focused on Ryong(龍, contiguous line of terrestrial stratum), Hull(穴, village location), Sa(砂, geographical feature of surrounding mountains), Su(水, water flow) and Hyang(向), which are Feng-Shui(風水) objects to be observed. According to the result of this research, S Village, which has mountains in the rear and a river in the front, was found to be in fine geographic situation equipped with Sashinsa(四神砂). According to the Feng-Shui theory(風水理論), the village was hang-ju-hyoung(行舟形), which means that people and properties flourish together. A shortcoming of the village was the absence of Ahnsan(案山) to block harmful winds blowing to the fore of the village. In addition, another shortcoming of the village in terms of Feng-Shui(風水) was the large variation of temperature because of its location surrounded by high mountains as if the village was situated inside a bowl. The Hyang(向) of village houses were arranged by the geographical feature and not by Feng-Shui(風水).

  • In comparison of the body color of Zacco platypys from Korea, it was found that there were significant differences among geographical populations in the color of upper eye, snout tip and anterior margin of pectoral fin. In individuals with red upper eye the snout tip was red but in those with black upper eye red color did not appeared on the snout tip. There was no difference between male and female in this characteristic and it was expressed uniformly within the same population. So we divided Z. platypus into two types by the color of upper eye; R type with red upper eye and B type with black upper eye. Red band on anterior margin of pectoral fins appeared in all males of both R and B type populations but in females it appeared only in B type individuals. The two types shown different distribution pattern in Korean Peninsula. R type distributed in almost whole area but B type distributed only in southeastern part of the peninsula: Nakdong, Hyeongsan, Taehwa, Suyeong and Jinjeon River. In analysis of external morphology among two types of Z. platypus from Korea and Z. platypus from Japan, there were no significant differences. But they were relatively well separated in discriminant function analysis.

  • This study was conducted to examine the geographic variation of bud phenology of Zelkova serrata provenances. Data were collected from Gangneung, Yilmsil, Hwaseong and Jinju plantations which were parts of the 6 provenance trials established by Korea Forest Research Institute in 2009. The 16 provenances were included in these trials. The starting date of bud burst and finishing date of leaf expansion were investigated from April to May every other day. The four geographic factors and fifteen climatic factors of the test sites and provenances were considered in this study. Canonical correlation analysis was conducted to examine the major factors affecting the bud phenology between test sites and provenances. The study results suggested that the major factors affecting the timing of bud burst were the differences of extremely high temperature (March-October), annual mean temperature, mean temperature (March-October), extremely high temperature (July-August) and mean humidity (June-October) between test site and provenance. The provenances with lower mean or high temperature than those of plantation showed the earlier bud burst and leaf expansion. It showed a typical north-south or low-high temperature cline. Finally, we discussed the implication of the tree breeding program of Z. serrata based on these results.

  • DSM and orthoimage, which are representative results of UAV photogrammetry, are high-quality spatial information data and are widely used in various fields of spatial information industry in recent years. However, the UAV photogrammetry has a problem that the quality of the output of the UAV deteriorates due to the altitude of the UAV, the camera calibration, the weather conditions at the time of shooting, the performance of the GPS / IMU and the number of the ground reference points. The purpose of this study is to analyze the location accuracy of unmanned aerial photogrammetry according to the change of the number if ground control points. Experiments were made with fixed wing, and the shooting altitude was set at 130m and 260m. The number of ground reference points used was 9, 8, 5, and 4, respectively. Ten checkpoints were used. XY RMSE for orthoimage and Z RMSE for DSM were compared and analyzed. In addition, the resolution of the orthoimage was determined to affect the judgment of the operator in the verification of the planimetric position accuracy, and the visual resolution was analyzed using the Siemens star target. As a result of the analysis, the variation of the vertical position accuracy is larger than the variation of the planimetric position accuracy when the number of the ground reference points are different. Also The higher the flying height, the greater the effect of change of ground control points on position accuracy.

  • To provide observed oceanography data at coastal fish and shellfish farm in the northeastern sea of the Korean peninsula on real time base, we developed real time application system for fisheries oceanography information. The system has been made up a mooring buoy system, a server for oceanography data collection, a server for archiving data and a database system, and a web server for providing fisheries oceanography information using internet. Futhermore, to support letters service on a cellular phone, we developed the communication system from mooring buoy to cell phone on real time base. The oceanography data derived from the system are water temperature speed and direction of current in surface layer middle layer and bottom layer in hour. We were able to quantify short term variation of ocean conditions within several days at shellfish farm such as a scallop sea farm using our system. To reduce damages of fish and shellfish farm from abnormal phenomena of ocean conditions such as a broken stratification of water, an occurrence of abnormal coastal cold water and warm water we will be able to move vertically and horizontally the sea farm facilities to proper conditions using real time oceanography information derive from the system.

  • This study aims to assess the slope stability variation of Jeonbuk drainage areas by RCM model outputs based on A1B climate change scenario and infinite slope stability model based on the previous research by Choi et al.(2013). For a large-scale slope stability analysis, we developed a GIS-based database regarding topographic, geologic and forestry parameters and also calculated daily maximum rainfall for the study period(1971~2100). Then, we assess slope stability variation of the 20 sub-catchments of Jeonbuk under the climate change scenario. The results show that the areal-average value of safety factor was estimated at 1.36(moderately stable) in spite of annual rainfall increase in the future. In addition, 7 sub-catchments became worse and 5 sub-catchments became better than the present period(1971~2000) in terms of safety factor in the future.

  • Public transportation ridership and walkability of urban district can be enhanced through high quality of TOD(Transit Oriented Development) elements. Generally, TOD have been evaluated several physical components such as the diversity of land use pattern, accessibility of public transportation and aspects of urban design around the station area. Especially, Spatial characteristics of TOD planning elements have many potential dependent when considering the characteristics of Rail Station-Influenced Area Development which is performing around subway station. Therefore, researchers should be considering the variation of spatial properties for planning elements according the set of spatial area and their socioeconomic factors. However, existing many cases related TOD does not consider about this point. In this paper, the changes of TOD characteristics were analyzed by different spatial units surrounding subway station in Busan Metropolitan City. Multiple Regression Analysis was performed for an investigation of effective spatial unit of TOD planning elements in this area using subway ridership data. In addition, the application validity of socioeconomic variables was examined through a comparative analysis of regression results with the multiple regression that implied only physical TOD elements. As the result, the variation of spatial properties for TOD planning elements according to the set of spatial unit was found. Furthermore, the specific spatial unit to applicable TOD elements in this area was derived. And the multiple regression model which added socioeconomic variables was derived more improved estimate results than the multiple regression model that implied only physical TOD elements.

  • The geographic variations of the number and morphology of scutes of eightspine stickleback, Pungitius sinensis, in the southern half of the Korean peninsula were investigated. The two subspecies, P. sinensis sinensis and P. sinensis kaibarae, showed a bit of difference in the number of scutes but there was no geocline as a whole. In the frequencies of individuals with the different number of scutes between the left and right body side, there was also difference between the two subspecies, and the specimens from the Hyongsan River showed great variation. The populations of Kumho River had the largest scutes. But the specimens of the Hyongsan River had small and degenerated scutes different from all other populations, and some individuals showed the semiarmatus type arrangement of scute. Therefore, this population may be called the special type of P. sinensis. In the relationship between the time of landlocking and the size of scutes, it was speculated that the population of the Hyongsan River was landlocked long years ago and other populations of P. sinensis kaibarae except the Kumho River were landlocked more recently. For the population of the Kumho River, however, it seemed that there was no relation between salt tolerance or landlocking and number or developmental state of scutes as this landlocked population had well developed and large number of scutes.

  • Morphometric and genetic analyses on six populations of the two subspecies of Cobitis koreensis were performed to investigate the geographic variation and to clarify their taxonomic status. No significant differences between subspecies were found. Puan population of C. k. pumilus tends to be smaller in numbers of cross bars and dorsal spots, than those of C. k. koreensis populations with no statistical significance. Average degree of genic variation among six populations of the two subspecies was A=1.5, P =37.3%, HD=0.053, and HG=0.097. Marginal populations of Samchog (C. k. koreensis) and Puan(C. k. pumilus) were least variable: A= 1.3, P=23.8%, HD=0.0l0, HG=0.043, and A= 1.2, P=19.0%, HD=0.029, HG=0.078 respectively. The difference between HD and HG in all populations may indicate a patchness distribution between demes within each population. Genetic similarities between the two subspecies were, on the average, S=0.894, and this value correspond to the average genetic similarities among five populations of C. k. koreensis (5=0.899). Chongup population of C. k. koreensis and Puan population of C. k. pumilus was most similar genetically (5 =0.931). The results of morphometric and genetic analysis in this study indicate that C. k. pumilus is not a valid subspecies and should be considered as a population of C. koreensis.

  • A nursery trial comprising 109 progenies of 5 populations of Cornus kousa was analysed using multivariate analysis of 12 quantitative traits (growth and leaf form). The aim of this study was to examine geographic variation of the species based on the single, existing nursery trial to support a genetic resource conservation plan of Cornus kousa in Korea. Nested Anova showed that there were statistically significant differences among populations as well as among families within populations in all 12 quantitative traits. In 10 of 12 traits, variance components among families within populations were higher than those among populations. Cluster analysis using complete linkage method showed three groups to Euclidean distance 0.8. Among principal components, primary 2 principal components appeared to be major variables because of the loading contribution of 91.9%. The first contribution component was maximum width, vein number, blade length/petiole length and upper 1/3 width lower 1/3 width; the second one was height, diameter at root collar, blade length, upper 1/3 width, petiole length and petiole length/vein number, respectively. But all characters showed no significant difference with the pattern of geographic distribution.
