Modeling and Analysis of SEIG-STATCOM Systems Based on the Magnitude-Phase Dynamic Method

  • This paper proposes an analysis method based on the magnitude-phase dynamic theory for isolated power systems with static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). The stability margin of an isolated power system is greatly reduced when a load is connected, due to the disadvantageous features of the self-excited induction generators (SEIGs). To analyze the control process for system stability and to grasp the dynamic characteristics in different timescales, the relationships between the active/reactive components and the phase/magnitude of the STATCOM output voltage are derived in the natural reference frame based on the magnitude/phase dynamic theory. Then STATCOM equivalent mechanical models in both the voltage time scale and the current time scale are built. The proportional coefficients and the integral coefficients of the control process are converted into damping coefficients, inertia coefficients and stiffness coefficients so that analyzing its controls, dynamic response characteristics as well as impacts on the system operations are easier. The effectiveness of the proposed analysis method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a comprehensive investigation of the dynamic response of a long-bridge subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motions (SVEGM) is performed based on a proposed analytical model which includes the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI). The spatial variability of ground motions is simulated by the powerful record generator, SIMQKE II. Modeling of the SSI in the system is simplified by replacing the pile foundations and soil with sets of independent equivalent linear springs and dashpots along the pile groups. One of the most fundamental objectives of this study is to examine how well the proposed model simulates the dynamic response of a bridge system. For this purpose, the baseline data required for the evaluation process is derived from analyzing a 3D numerical model of the bridge system which is validated in this paper. To emphasize the importance of the SVEGM and SSI, bridge responses are also determined for the uniform ground motion and fixed base cases. This study proposing a compatible analytical model concerns the relative importance of the SSI and SVEGM and shows that these effects cannot be neglected in the seismic analysis of long-bridges.

  • In this paper, we analyze the procedure of the design manager for the enhancement of the hull production design process by use of the simulation method. Normally, design manager assigns design jobs according to various methods and estimates the corresponding results. When the construction drawing which is the output of the detail design where a design is dealt by zones, the design manager identifies blocks and analyzes their work difficulties, and assigns jobs to design engineers who are different in capabilities. These processes including the design engineer who can be modeled with man-hours evaluation model are represented in detail as a simulation model. As the high-level modeling for the discrete-event system, we use Event Graph model. And we implemented the simulation using Simkit which is open simulation engine for the discrete-event system. We made the simulation scenario to be written by a user in the scenario generator which is separated from the simulation model, and made the simulation result to be visualized in the form of Gantt chart in a Web. In the scenario of the irregular issuance for various construction drawings which contain different numbers of blocks, we performed the Monte-Carlo simulation according to various assignment methods to find the assignment result that satisfies the mid-term schedule.

VALIDATION OF ON-LINE MONITORING TECHNIQUES TO NUCLEAR PLANT DATA

  • The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) demonstrated a method for monitoring the performance of instrument channels in Topical Report (TR) 104965, 'On-Line Monitoring of Instrument Channel Performance.' This paper presents the results of several models originally developed by EPRI to monitor three nuclear plant sensor sets: Pressurizer Level, Reactor Protection System (RPS) Loop A, and Reactor Coolant System (RCS) Loop A Steam Generator (SG) Level. The sensor sets investigated include one redundant sensor model and two non-redundant sensor models. Each model employs an Auto-Associative Kernel Regression (AAKR) model architecture to predict correct sensor behavior. Performance of each of the developed models is evaluated using four metrics: accuracy, auto-sensitivity, cross-sensitivity, and newly developed Error Uncertainty Limit Monitoring (EULM) detectability. The uncertainty estimate for each model is also calculated through two methods: analytic formulas and Monte Carlo estimation. The uncertainty estimates are verified by calculating confidence interval coverages to assure that 95% of the measured data fall within the confidence intervals. The model performance evaluation identified the Pressurizer Level model as acceptable for on-line monitoring (OLM) implementation. The other two models, RPS Loop A and RCS Loop A SG Level, highlight two common problems that occur in model development and evaluation, namely faulty data and poor signal selection

2차원 수리해석을 위한 범용 소프트웨어(RAMS) 개발 (Development of General-purpose Software for 2D Hydraulic Analysis Analysis(RAMS))

  • 현재까지 하천의 흐름, 유사이동, 수질해석을 위해서는 외국에서 개발된 소프트웨어를 주로 사용해 오고 있었다. 학술 분야에서는 국내의 모형들이 연구되어졌지만 그에 따른 GUI나 가시화 시스템에 대한 실용화는 거의 이루어지지 못하였다. 본 연구에서는 범용 2차원 하천 흐름, 수질, 유사이동 해석을 위한 GUI 및 가시화 시스템(이하 RAMS, River Analysis and Modeling System)을 개발하여, 하상변동 및 오염물 이송확산에 미치는 수리학적 영향을 규명할 수 있도록 하였다. RAMS는 크게 mesh generator, 해석 모형의 입력 GUI 모듈, 입출력 파일 생성 모듈, 그리고 모의 결과의 가시화 시스템 등으로 이루어져 있다. Mesh generator는 지형자료(이미지 또는 DXF 파일)를 백그라운드 이미지로 가져올 수 있으며, 삼각형 노드와 사각형 노드를 지원한다. 또한 thin triangle들을 제거하는 기능, 선택된 요소(elements)를 제거하는 기능, triangle들을 서로 병합하여 사각형 요소를 만드는 기능, mesh의 renumbering 기능 등을 구현하였다. 특히 사용자가 잘못 생성한 요소들을 바로 이전 상태로 환원하는 undo/redo 기능을 구현하여 능률적인 mesh 생성이 가능하다. 해석 모형의 입력 GUI 모듈에는 각 해석 모형(흐름, 수질, 유사이동)에 특화된 GUI를 설계하여 사용자는 보다 친숙한 환경에서 편리하게 자료를 입력할 수 있다. 입출력 파일 생성 모듈에서는 사용자가 GUI를 통해 입력한 자료를 파일로 변환하여 즉각적으로 모의를 수행하며, 그 출력 파일을 읽어 모의 결과를 자동적으로 가시화한다. 모의 결과의 가시화 시스템에서는 수많은 모의 결과를 체계화하여 등고선 및 화살표 등으로 표현하며, time step 별 결과를 바로 확인할 수 있다. 또한 애니메이션 기능을 구현하여 사용자가 원하는 구간의 time step에서의 모의 결과를 연속적으로 볼 수 있으며, 이 애니메이션을 AVI 파일로 변환하여 다른 동영상 프로그램에서도 재생할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 개발한 RAMS를 이용하여 하천 설계 시 그 공학적 근거를 제시하고, 국내 실정에 맞는 국산 소프트웨어를 제공함으로써 하천의 흐름, 수질, 유사이동 해석에 의한 하천의 수리학적 거동을 보다 편리하고 정확하게 모의할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

DEVS 통합개발환경 기반 모의 어뢰 표적탐지부 연동장비 개발 (Development of Torpedo Target Detection Section Interface Simulation System based on DEVS Integrated Development Environment)

  • 무기체계의 합리적인 요구사항 도출을 위해서는 많은 경험과 시행착오가 필요하지만, 현실적으로는 개발 비용과 위험 등의 이유로 M&S를 통한 접근이 일반적이다. 무기체계 획득 이외에도, 개발된 무기체계의 분석 또는 훈련을 목적으로도 M&S가 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 국방과학연구소에서는 이러한 M&S의 필요성을 충족시키기 위해 모의실험 및 체계분석 구현에 필요한 M&S 공통기반기술 제공을 목적으로 해군 전투실험을 위한 DEVS 통합개발환경(QUEST)을 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 모의 어뢰 표적탐지부 연동 아키텍처를 설계하고, QUEST의 무기체계 시뮬레이션 기능을 활용하여 모의 어뢰 표적탐지부 연동장비를 개발하였다. 모의 어뢰 표적탐지부 연동장비는 표적탐지 결과를 제공하는 어뢰 표적탐지부와 어뢰 표적탐지부의 성능 시험에서 필요한 시뮬레이션 시나리오를 제공하는 QUEST 시나리오 발생기로 구성된다. 모의 어뢰 표적탐지부 연동 아키텍처는 QUEST 시나리오 발생기와 어뢰 표적탐지부와의 연동을 통해 어뢰 표적탐지부의 성능 및 인터페이스를 검증할 수 있도록 설계되었다.

CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT OVER INDIAN AGRICULTURE - A SPATIAL MODELING APPROACH

  • The large-scale distribution of crops Is usually determined by climate. We present the results of a climate-crop prediction based on spatial bio-physical process model approach, implemented in a GIS (Geographic Information System) environment using several regional and global agriculture-environmental databases. The model utilizes daily climate data like temperature, rainfall, solar radiation being generated stocastically by in-built model weather generator to determine the daily biomass and finally the crop yield. Crops are characterized by their specific growing period requirements, photosynthesis, respiration properties and harvesting index properties. Temperature and radiation during the growing period controls the development of each crop. The model simulates geographic/spatial distribution of climate by which a crop-growing belt can also be determined. The model takes both irrigated and non-irrigated area crop productivity into account and the potential increase in productivity by the technical means like mechanization is not considered. All the management input given at the base year 1995 was kept same for the next twenty-year changes until 2015. The simulated distributions of crops under current climatic conditions coincide largely with the current agricultural or specific crop growing regions. Simulation with assumed weather generated derived climate change scenario illustrate changes in the agricultural potential. There are large regional differences in the response across the country. The north-south and east-west regions responded differently with projected climate changes with increased and decreased productivity depending upon the crops and scenarios separately. When water was limiting or facilitating as non-irrigated and irrigated area crop-production effects of temperature rise and higher $CO_2$ levels were different depending on the crops and accordingly their production. Rise in temperature led to yield reduction in case of maize and rice whereas a gain was observed for wheat crop, doubled $CO_2$ concentration enhanced yield for all crops and their several combinations behaved differently with increase or decrease in yields. Finally, with this spatial modeling approach we succeeded in quantifying the crop productivity which may bring regional disparities under the different climatic scenarios where one region may become better off and the other may go worse off.

  • 고주파수 대역을 사용하는 위성통신 시스템의 링크 성능 저하의 가장 큰 요인 중의 하나가 강우 감쇠라고 할 수 있으며, 이러한 강우 감쇠를 보상하기 위한 가장 효율적인 방법으로써, 적응형 전송방식을 사용하고 있다. 강우 감쇠에 대처하기 위한 적응형 전송 방식을 개발하고 설계하는데 있어서 중요한 요소 중의 하나가 실제 발생하는 강우 감쇠에 대한 동적 시뮬레이션 모델이다. 본 논문에서는 초 단위 강우 감쇠 실측 데이터에 대한 통계치를 바탕으로 Markov 프로세스 모델을 이용하여 모델링하는 절차를 기술한다. 먼저 실측된 데이터의 통계적 특성을 추출하여 4가지 상태를 가지는 Markov 프로세스를 정의하고, 이를 이용하여 모델링된 데이터와 실측 데이터를 비교 분석한 결과를 제시한다.

풍력발전기 진단 및 청소를 위한 로봇의 모델링 및 자세제어 (A Modeling and Attitude Control of an Inspection and Cleaning Robot for Wind Turbines)

  • Wind turbines are in the limelight in the alternative energy industry. However, they face frequent and various problems during operation. We focused on the supervising of the blades of a wind turbine. In this paper, we present the design of a maintenance robot that takes the size of wind turbine blades into consideration, so the general form of the robot is a square with four wires fixed to its vertices and to the nacelle. After the robot is placed near the nacelle, it moves along the blades. We also designed an attitude control algorithm for the robot to maintain its balance. Our control algorithm for the robot consists of roll and pitch attitude controllers and a height controller. Each controller was designed independently and then superposed together. We used simulations to verify our control algorithm.

  • In fact, asynchronous motors are used widely. Asynchronous motors which have large power (compared to the source supplies) is needed to start them in various methods. The theory of application reduced voltage to motor's stator or variable resistor fed rotor for the purpose of altering the motor's torque and power consumption characteristics is an idea that has existed for many years. These concepts have flourished mainly due to the need to limit torque and limited generator/power distribution capabilities. However, how can know exactly the time of switching steps with different types of motors as well as load characteristics is very difficult. This paper focuses on the design and development mathematical models of motor[1][2], load, ACB, asynchronous machine and then is implemented in SIMULINK in order to calculate this time, special on ships where power generation station is limited. The simulation results are both compared and discussed in detail so that it can apply to conclude the most suitable and applicable starting time for new system with various motors and load.
