  • As a part of micro engine development feasibility estimation was done through fabrication and test of down scaled combustor and MEMS fabricated spark electrode. In an experimental observation of the down scaled combustion phenomena where flame propagation was observed by optical method and pressure change in combustor which gives the information about the reaction generated thermal energy was recorded and analyzed. Optimal combustor scale was derived to be about 2mm considering increased heat loss effect and thermal energy generation capability. Through the fabrication and discharge test of MEMS electrode effects of electrode width and gap was investigated. Electrode was fabricated by thick PR mold and electroplating. From the result discharge voltage characteristic in sub millimeter scale electrode having thickness of $40{\mu}m$ was obtained. From the result base technology for design and fabrication of micro engine was obtained.

  • PDP use the mixture of inert gases to generate a discharge inside display pixels. Inside of PDP, there exist highly reactive conditions in the gap between two glass panels. MgO layer and phosphor have been investigated as a function of discharge and thermal process. Impurities such as CO, $CO_2$, OH and $H_2O$ in discharge region may deteriorate the characteristics of PDP operation during life time. Change of impurity generation of various MgO and phosphor surfaces were measured by using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and quadropole mass spectrometer (QMS). Carbon containing species such as C, CO and $CO_2$ were drastically increased on the surfaces during discharge and thermal treatment. Carbon impurities on the MgO and phosphor are the dominant factor for their instability.

  • This review aims to show that industrial sustainable chemistry, minimizing or reducing the ecological impacts by the chemicals, is not an emerging trend, but is already a reality through the application of 'White Biotechnology' such as 'green' chemistry and engineering expertise. A large number of current industrial case studies are presented, as well as new developments from the chemical industry. The case studies cover new chemistry, new process design and new equipment. By articulating the requirements for industrial application of sustainable chemistry, this review also seeks to bridge any existing gap between academia and industry regarding the R & D and engineering challenges needed to ensure green chemistry research enables a more sustainable future chemical industry considering eco-toxicological impacts.

  • This paper introduces and illustrates the results of a new method fer offsetting triangular mesh by moving all vertices along the multiple normal vectors of a vertex. The multiple normal vectors of a vertex are set the same as the normal vectors of the faces surrounding the vertex, while the two vectors with the smallest difference are joined repeatedly until the difference is smaller than allowance. Offsetting with the multiple normal vectors of a vertex does not create a gap or overlap at the smooth edges, thereby making the mesh size uniform and the computation time short. In addition, this offsetting method is accurate at the sharp edges because the vertices are moved to the normal directions of faces and joined by the blend surface. The method is also useful for rapid prototyping and tool path generation if the triangular mesh is tessellated part of the solid models with curved surfaces and sharp edges. The suggested method and previous methods are implemented on a PC using C++ and illustrated using an OpenGL library.

  • Research in Human Computer Interface (HCI) is towards development of an application environment able to deal with interactions of both human and computers that can be more intuitive and efficient. This can be achieved by bridging the gap between the synthetic virtual environment and the natural physical environment. Thus a project called Tangible Space Initiative (TSI) has been launched by KIST. TSI is subdivided into Tangible Interface (TI) which controls 3D cyber space with user's perspective, Responsive Cyber Space (RCS) which creates and controls the virtual environment and Tangible Agent (TA) which senses and acts upon the physical interface environment on behalf of any components of TSI or the user. This paper is a brief introduction to a new generation of Human Computer Interface that bring user to a new era of interaction with computers in the future.

  • In case of thin-wall two-color injection molding, flashing often occurs when molten polymer flows into small gap at the parting line in mold with high pressure or under the unbalanced clamping force condition. In this study, flashing was examined in the production of thin-wall notebook case with large area when the rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM) technology was applied to the two-color injection molding. The effects of the RHCM technology on the part properties and weld-lines were compared with conventional injection molding. The flashing caused by the clamping device of the two-color injection molding machine was examined and compared by experiments and CAE analyses.

  • In this study, the selective-wettability-inscription (SWI) technique for the wet-etchingless fabrication of surface microstructures applicable to wide-viewing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) on plastic substrates was demonstrated. On the basis of the selective wetting of the photopolymer, the bi-level microstructures were spontaneously formed to serve as spacers for maintaining uniform cell gap and protrusions for the generation of multi-domains. The LC cell that has bi-level microstructures shows good extinction in the field-off state and a wide-viewing property in the field-on state. The SWI technique would be useful for the fabrication of flexible displays on plastic substrates.

  • Rotary-type voice coil motors are widely used as actuators in hard disk drives. The recent trend toward higher density and smaller form factors in data storage devices requires performance improvement of the voice coil motor. In this study, we introduce a Halbach magnet array to the voice coil motor in order to increase the force generation. The Halbach magnetic circuit outperforms the conventional magnetic circuit due to the confined magnetic flux. To investigate the performance of the Halbach magnetic circuit, we analyze air gap flux density with the various shapes and thickness of the magnets using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Consequently the optimum shape of the Halbach magnetic circuit is proposed. Simulations and experimental results proved effectiveness of the proposed magnet array in the voice coil motor for a commercial hard disk drive.

  • Inside of working PDP, there exist highly reactive conditions in the gap between two glass panels. MgO film and phosphor have been investigated as a function of discharge, also phosphor and sealing frits have been investigated as a function of temperature. Changes of impurity generation of MgO, phosphor and sealing fits were measured by using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and quadropole mass spectroscopy (XPS) and quadropole mass spectrometer (QMS). Impurities such as CO, $CO_2$, OH and $H_2O$ were increased during discharge and heating treatment. Gaseous impurities such as carbon compounds and water deteriorated the characteristics of PDP operation during of lifetime. So metal is used to remove the impurities of phosphor and sealing frits during hearting, the result that the quantity of the impurities such as carbon monoxide and water was reduced.

  • Purpose: Recently, renewable energy system has been widely used to reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emission of building. A photovoltaic/thermal(PVT) system is a kind of efficient energy uses, which is combined with photovoltaic module and solar thermal collector. PVT system removes heat from PV module by through thermal fluid to raise the performance efficiency of the PV system. However, though PVT system has the merit of the improved efficiency in theoretical approach, there have been few performance analysis for PVT system using the dynamic energy simulation. In this study, in order to establish the optimum design method of this system, simulation was conducted by using individual system modules. Method: For the dynamic simulation, TRNSYS17 was used and local weather data was utilized. Furthermore, the system performance in various installation condition was calculated by case studies. Result: As a result, the amount of electric generation and heat production in each case was found by the simulation. The gap of system performance was also evident according to the installation condition.
