A Fundamental Study on Sea Water Freezing Behavior in a Rectangular Vessel Cooled from Below (구형용기의 하부면 냉각에 의한 해수 동결거동의 기초적 연구)

  • The most important factor for the desalination system is the fresh water production cost dependent upon the possible energy source which should be obtained easily and with low price. Recently in Korea the demand of LNG, as a cheap and clean energy which does not cause an environmental problem, has sharply been increased. In general, LNG is storaged in a tank as a liquid state below -162 'C. When it is serviced, however, the LNG absorbs energy from a heating source and transforms to the gaseous state with high pressure. During this process a huge amount of cold energy accumulated in LNG is wasted. This waste cold energy can be utilized for producing fresh water from sea water using a sea water freezing desalination system. In order to develop a sea water freezing desalination system and to establish its design technique, a qualitative and quantitative data regarding the freezing behavior of sea water is needed in advance. The goal of this study, therefore, are to reveal the freezing mechanism of sea water, to measure the freezing rate, and to investigate the freezing heat-transfer characteristics. The experimental results help to provide a general understanding of the sea water freezing behavior in a Rectangular vessel cooled from below.

Applicability of Load Duration Curve to Nakdong River Wateished Management (낙동강 유역관리를 위한 부하량 유황곡선의 적용 가능성)

  • In this study a general analysis method for watersheds with the entire runoff conditions and corresponding water quality is proposed and its applicability based on the currently available information is investigated. Using the 8-day-interval data set of runoff and water quality observed by Nakdong River Environment Research Center, the flow duration curve and discharge-load relation curve for each unit watershed are established, then the load duration curve is finally constructed. This paper discusses how the load duration curve can be used in the assessment of TMDL. The entire Nakdong river watershed is also divided into prior managing areas of point sources or non-point sources in a way of general management. It is thought that LDC can be a great tool for visualizing overall probabilities of current water quality and thus for the TMDL management.

Field Measurements of Wave Directionality in Water of Finite Depth

  • Field measurements of directional waves were carried out during the summer of 2002 at two coastal sites in water of finite depth. A couple of general purpose instruments were used employing acoustic Doppler technology. The aim of the study was to investigate the spatial behavior of the directional movement of waves as they come ashore. In total,74 tests were carried out during which sea states of low to moderate intensity were recorded. A great number of these runs displayed bimodal characteristics of the spreading function at high frequencies. It was found that in general, the frequency-integrated directional width tends to broaden as the water shoals and when refraction effects are negligible. This is attributed to wave-wave interactions that become pronounced in shallow water. The same directional width showed, also, a tendency to increase with increasing peak frequency of the sea state spectrum. The behavior of the kurtosis of the spreading function was also examined. It was found that for higher frequencies this index tends to increase in wave spectra above a certain sea severity threshold.

A Clinical Study on Effect of Mouth Cleaning by Use of Water jet (Water jet 사용시의 구강청결 효과에 관한 임상적 조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a guide for selection of oral hygiene devices for nations and establishing valid indication of recently popularized water jet. The author has divided 36 persons into general, orthodontic, periodontal patients according to their oral hygiene state, and then evaluated the degree or decrease in plaque indices and gingival bleeding indices. The obtained results were as follows. 1. When both manual toothbrush and water jet were used together by three kind of patients, significant decreases in plaque index were observed in all patients, after 4 weeks compared with ordinary toothbrushing only(p<0.05). 2. When both oral hygiene devices were used together by three kind of patients, significant decreases in gingival bleeding index were observed in all patients after 4 weeks compared with ordinary toothbrushing only(p<0.05). 3. Singificant differences of the average gingival bleeding index & plaque index among three kind of patients were observed(p<0.05). 4. Therefore, it is concluded that for effective oral hygiene care. water jet can be recommendable to general patients, especially to orthodontic or periodontal patients.

A Study On The Water Quality in Rural Area in Chuncheon-si (춘천시 일부 농촌 지역의 음용수 수질에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was conducted in the summer of 2005 in Shindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do to assess the quality of drinking water and to evaluate their potential pollutants. Ninety four water samples were collected from three classes of water supplies such as simple piped water, supplied own water and others (Supplied local water). Most residents used simple piped water (72.63%). 31.25% residents thought the water quality was bad and landfill was the main source of pollution that affected water quality. To correspond this perception, water quality was measured according to Drinking Water Quality Standard. The general bacteria, coliforms, and $NO_3-N$ exceeded the standard but the water qualities in these four areas were suitable for Drinking Water Quality Standard. The simple piped water showed low mean concentration of excess rate compared to supplied own piped water except general bacteria. Hardness, pH, and $NO_3-N$ showed significantly higher effects on drinking water quality. To evaluate the effect of effluent from landfill, water quality was measured according to distance and altitude. However, there was no effect of landfill effluent. To find out the effect of rainfall, we compared water quality of the year 2003 with that of 2005. The result showed significant differences in hardness and $NO_3-N$ concentration. This study confirmed that $NO_3-N$, coliforms, and general bacteria are main pollutant of water supply in rural community. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly maintain simple piped water supply, supplement sewer facilities, and educate residents about public health risk associated with drinking water in rural area.

  • This study is to analyze durability of water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents as outer surface finishing materials, and evaluate its feasibility. General functions and water-repelling effects were tested, and the feasibility was evaluated based on the test results. The experimental results of heat conduction durability, air permeability, absorption, and bond strength suggested that water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents were suitable for finishing materials. Considering overall general durability performances, stable mixing ratios were 2, 5, and 8%.

  • The multiphase flow simulator, MPS, is developed based on the fractional flow approach considering tile fully three phase flow with general initial and boundary condition. Most existing fractional flow-based models are limited to two-phase flow and specific boundary conditions. Although there appears a number of three-phase flow models, they were mostly developed using pressure based approaches. As a result, these models require cumbersome variable-switch techniques to deal with phase appearance and disappearance. The use of fractional flow based approach in MPS makes it unnecessary to use variable-switch to handle the change of phase configurations. Also most existing fractional flow based models consider only specific boundary conditions. However, the present model considers general boundary conditions of most possible and plausible cases which consists of ten cases.

  • This study is to examine general roller and rotation in using self-adhesive waterproofing sheet. Using self-adhesive waterproofing sheet is very comfortable in a waterproofing construction site. However, In mechanical construction, self-adhesive waterproofing sheet occurred that problem for using. It induce many water leakage problem. So, We make Rotation Roller for to solve the this problem, and then Comparison with Physical properties of Self-Adhesive waterproofing sheet in applied General Roller and Rotation Roller.
