Tabanus anticoagulant protein (TAP) was isolated from the whole body of the tabanus, Tabanus bivittatus, using three purification steps (ammonium sulfate fractionation, gel filtration on Bio-Gel P-60, and ion exchange chromatography on DEAE Sephadex gel). The purified TAP, with a molecular weight of 65 kDa, was assessed to be homogeneous by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and an isoelectric point of 7.9 was determined by isoelectric focusing. The internal amino acid sequence of the purified protein was composed of Ser-Leu-Asn-Asn-Gln-Phe-Ala-Ser-Phe-lle-Asp-Lys-Val-Arg. The protein was activated by $Cu^{2+}\;and\;Zn^{2+}$, and the optimal conditions were found to be at pH $3\sim6\;and\;40\sim70^{\circ}C$. Standard coagulation screen assays were used to determine thrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time. Chromogenic substrate assays were performed for thrombin and factor Xa activity. TAP considerably prolonged human plasma clotting time, especially activated partial thromboplastin time in a dose-dependent manner; it showed potent and specific antithrombin activity in the chromogenic substrate assay. Specific anti-factor Xa activity in TAP was not detected. Overall, this result suggested that TAP has significant anticoagulant activity on blood coagulation system.
This study presented the characteristics and additive effects of the grout with mixing ratio for developing of high-efficiency grouting technology under high depth conditions. The laboratory investigation were conducted with Portland cement (OPC) and micro cement (S8000-E) including viscosity experiments, particle size analysis experiments, Gel-Time experiments and uniaxial compressive strength experiments. As a result of the viscosity experiment, it was shown that OPC is advantageous in terms of viscosity, but S8000-E is suitable when considering the passage of rock joint intervals through particle size analysis. The Gel-Time experiment shows that it is not that difficult with injection as a grout material even when silica fume (SF) was applied. The strength of the cured material is improved as increase in the content of silica fium (SF). Within the range of the study, the optimal mixing ratio obtained through various experiments is S8000-E, w/c=70%, silica fium (SF)=6%, and 7 days.

The main purpose of this study was to develop a novel, in situ gel system for sustained delivery of ranitidine hydrochloride. Ranitidine in situ gels at 0.2%, 0.5%, and 1.0% gellan gum concentration (w/v) were prepared, respectively, and characterized in terms of preparation, viscosity and in vitro release. The viscosity of the gellan gum formulations in solution increased with increasing concentrations of gellan gum. In vitro study showed that the release of ranitidine from these gels was characterized by an initial phase of high release (burst effect) and translated to the second phase of moderate release. Single photon emission computing tomography technique was used to evaluate the stomach residence time of gel containing $^{99m}Tc$ tracer. The animal experiment suggested in situ gel had feasibility of forming gels in stomach and sustained the ranitidine release from the gels over the period of at least 8 h. In conclusion, the in situ gel system is a promising approach for the oral delivery of ranitidine for the therapeutic effects improvement.
$SiO_2$ gels containing dispersed fine Te metal particles have been prepared by the sol- gel method using a starting solution containing Tetraethoxy Silane (Si($OC_2$$H_{5}$ )$_4$), $H_2$O, Ethylalchol ($C_2$$H_{5}$OH), Nitric Acid ($HNO_3$) and Tellurium Tetracholoride ($TeCl_4$) in a several molar ratio. Gelling time of sols was about 3 days and viscosity of solution was very low about 2~3 cP for 3 days. Heat-treatments of the gel have been performed at 500, 700, 900, 1100 and $1300^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, respectively. We have investigated TG-DTA, X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM of heat-treatmented gels. The size of Te fine particles dispersed in $SiO_2$ gel was about 0.8~1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the shape was almost quadrangle.
Membrane fouling in membrane bioreactor (MBR) remains a primary challenge for its wider application. The focus of this study to investigate the influence of iron distribution in activated sludge on gel layer fouling in MBR. Significant reduction in the transmembrane pressure (TMP) rise rates was observed in the presence of iron as result of retarding the gel layer formation time. The spatial distribution of iron had a significant impact on the stratification structure of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) fractions, such as proteins (PN) and polysaccharides (PS). A mitigation of PN or PS from the supernatant to the EPS inner layers was observed in the presence of iron. Compared with the control reactor, the reduction in PN and PS of the supernatant and lower PN/PS rates of the LB-EPS were beneficial to decrease the membrane fouling potential during the gel layer formation. Consequently, the iron addition managed to control gel layer fouling could be a useful strategy in MBR.

Background : Vocal fold injection using autologous material (fat or collagen) is very useful. However, Autologous material have variable resorption times and results, Plasma gel is a new injection material. The purpose of this study is to introduce a new injection material and discuss the effectiveness and complications. Subjects and Method: Eleven cases with vocal cord paralysis were analyzed after plasma gel injection, The plasma gel was acquired from patient's own blood. The preoperative and postoperative parameters including maximum phonation time (MPT) and subject aspiration score were analyzed. Results: There was a significant improvement in MPT and aspiration score in the case of vocal cord palsy. There was only one laryngeal complication. Conclusion : According to these preliminary results, the injection laryngoplasty with Plasma gel is a simple, safe, cheap procedure for temporally vocal fold palsy.
Zirconia gels dispersed with fine Au particles have been prepared by the sol-gel method. Starting solution with (OC$Zr_4$$H_{ 9}$)$_4$, $C_4$$H_{9}$ OH, $H_2$O,$ HNO_3$, $HAuC1_4$ was used to prepare gels in several molar ratio. After hydrolysis, viscosity of solutions as 4∼5 cP and gelling time of sols were spent about 9 days. As the heat-treatment temperature was increased,$ ZrO_2$ had the phase transition from tetragonal to monoclinic at $750^{\circ}C$. Heat-treatments of the gel have performed at 500, 700, 750, 800, 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for 3 hrs, respectively. We have investigated TG-DTA, X-ray diffraction patterns, SEM and EDS. The size of Au fine particles dispersed in the heat-treatmented gel was about 0.15∼0.23 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the shape was most sphericity.

The following results are from the test of semi-gel electrolyte to store energy efficiently and use advanced VRLA batteries by photovoltaic and wind power generation. Semi-Gel electrolyte with Silica 5% became Gel after 1 and half hour. It shows it is the most suitable time that the electrolyte can be absorbed into the separator and active material of plate to be gel. The test also says that semi-gel electrolyte shows the much better performance for low-rate discharge and the liquid electrolyte is good for high-rate discharge because the reaction rate of gel electrolyte is slower than liquid one for high-rate discharge performance. The test with DOD10% and DOD100% says that 5% silica electrolyte shows much better performance for life efficiency than liquid one. Because semi-gel electrolyte increase the efficiency of gas recombination at the chemical reaction of VRLA battery and it makes minimizing the reduction of electrolyte. Using the 5% silica electrolyte in order to improve the stroage efficiency and life performance for photovoltic and wind power generation, it causes improving by 4.8% for DOD100% and 20% for DOD10%.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the freezing and thawing resistance of the existing drainage system for leakage treatment of underground concrete structures operating in cold regions. The freezing and thawing test was conducted on 4 types of drainage system specimens to evaluate the freezing and thawing resistance of the drainage system. The freezing and thawing resistance was evaluated on 4 types of Hotty-gel, as a waterproofing material, connection methods and on two methods to fix the drainage board with Hotty-gel on the surface of cement concrete specimen. One cycle of the freeze-thaw testing was 48 hours (24 hours of freezing and 24 hours of thawing), and the temperatures of freezing and thawing were at $-18^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$, respectively. Among the 4 types of Hotty-gel connection methods, leakage occurred after 28 cycles (8 weeks) of freeze-thawing only in the Hotty-gel connection method with the 'V' groove applied to the corner of the drainage board. No leakage occurred in the 3 types of Hotty-gel connection methods. In two fixing methods, leakage occurred in the method of fixing the drainage board on the cement concrete specimen using the washer, screw and plastic wall plug. Leakage occurred at one point after 10 cycles (3 weeks) of freezing and thawing. After 28 cycles (8 weeks) of freezing and thawing, leakage point increased to 5 points. As time passed, the leak point was not increased, but the amount of leakage was increased at each leak point. The Hotty-gel connection method with cross-sectional diagonal shape was evaluated to be the highest in the production efficiency considering the production time and manufacturing method of the Hotty-gel connection shape. In the construction efficiency considering the construction time and construction method, the fixing method of air nailer, fixed nail and washer was superior to that of the washer, screw and plastic wall plug.

Judging from hydrocortisone concentration in dosing area, the extent of absorption was reduced in the liposome-gel formulation. However, higher and sustained skin concentrations of hydrocortisone were achieved for the liposome-gel as compared to the ointment. Drug concentration in both viable and deep skin reached its maximum within 0.5 h after application of both formulations to both skin types. Drug concentrations in both skins from the ointment declined with time, while those from the liposome-gel were greatly sustained. The sustainment by the liposome-gel was more remarkable in the viable skin than in the deep skin. Drug concentration in the viable skin could be maintained at a nearly constant level for over 8 h by applying the liposome-gel. As a result, a 5-fold higher viable skin drug concentration was obtained from the liposome-gel than from the ointment at 8 h after the application to the SC-removed skin. However, the plasma concentration of hydrocortisone at 4 h from the liposome-gel was only one-fourth (p<0.01) the value from the ointment when the drug was applied to the SC-removed skin, consistent with. the lower urinary (one-third, p<0.05) and fecal (one-half, p<0.05) excretion. Conclusions : Retarded diffusion of the drug from the skin to the systemic blood stream appears to be a potential factor in the sustained skin concentration of hydrocortisone from the liposome-gel, Interaction of hydrocortisone in the skin with phosphatidylcholine, a component of the liposomes and skin, may well be a factor in retarding the diffusion of the drug in the skin.
