  • In recent years the concern of designing multi-stage gear drives increases with the more application of gear drives in high-speed and high-load. until now however research on the gear drive design has been focused on single gear pairs and the design has been depended on experiences and know-how of designers and carried out commonly by trial and error. We propose the automation of the dimensional design of gears and the configuration design for gear arrangement of two-and three-stage cylindrical gear drives. The dimensional design is divided into two types of design processes to determine the dimensions of gears. The first design process(Process I) uses the total volume of gears to determine gear ratio and uses K factor unit load and aspect ratio to determine gear dimensions. The second one(Process II) makes use of Niemann's formula and center distance to calculate gear ratio and dimensions. Process I and II employ material data from AGMA and ISO standards respectively. The configuration design determines the positions of gears to minimize the volume of gearbox by simulated annealing algorithm. Finally the availability of the design algorithm is validated by the design examples of two-and three-stage gear drives.

  • The purpose of this study was to design a powertrain for a 78 kW AWD (all wheel drive) electric tractor by analyzing the combination of various reduction gear ratios on a commercial motor using data from actual agricultural work and driving conditions. A load measurement system was constructed to collect data using wheel torque meters, proximity sensors, and a data acquisition system. Field experiments for measuring load data were performed for two environmental driving conditions (on asphalt and soil) and four agricultural operations (plow tillage, rotary tillage, loader operation, and baler operation). The attached implements and gear stages were selected through farmer surveys. The range of the reduction ratio was determined by selecting the minimum reduction ratio needed to satisfy the torque condition required for agricultural operations and the maximum reduction gear ratio to satisfy the maximum travel speed. The minimum reduction gear ratio selected was 57 in consideration of the working load condition and the maximum reduction gear ratio selected was 62 considering the maximum running speed. In the range of the reduction gear ratio 57 - 62, the selected motor satisfied all working torque conditions. As a result, the combination of the selected motor and reduction gear ratio was applicable for satisfying the loads required during agricultural operation and driving operation.

  • An optimim reduction gear ratio problem for a subway rapid transit car in Seoul was solved by using a computer program package, which is a modified and extened version of the simple model by Mischke. The optimum value of reduction gear ratio was evaluated by minimizing the total start-to stop time. The validity of the computer program package was verified by cross-checking the calculated values of gear ratio and dynamic characteristics with the actual and measured values.

  • A hypoid gear is a type of spiral bevel gear whose axis does not intersect with the axis of the meshing gear. The size of a hypoid gear is compact and the ratio of contact is high; therefore, the noise is lower than in other types. Due to these characteristics, the hypoid gear is commonly used in manufacturing processes such as those of escalators and subway screen doors. The purpose of this paper is to develop a reducer using the hypoid gear. In order to check the stability of the proposed reducer, 3D modeling is carried out by CATIA, and a structural analysis is performed using FEM (a finite element method).

  • Selection of gear reduction ratio is essential for machine design to ensure suitable power and speed during agricultural operations. The goal of the study was to evaluate the gear reduction ratio for a 1.6 kW four-wheel-drive (4WD) multi-purpose agricultural electric vehicle platform using workload data under different off-road conditions. A data acquisition system was fabricated to collect workload (torque) of the vehicle acting on the gear shaft. Field tests were performed under three driving surfaces (asphalt, concrete, and grassland), payload operations (981, 2,942, and 4,903 N), and slope conditions (0 - 4°, 4 - 8°, and 8 - 12°), respectively. Commercial speed reduction gear phases were attached to the input shaft of the vehicle powertrain. The maximum required torque was recorded as 37.5 Nm at a 4,903 N load with 8 - 12° slope levels, and the minimum torque was 12.32 Nm at 0 - 4° slope levels with a 981 Nm load for a 4 km/h speed on asphalt, concrete, and grassland roads. Based on the operating load condition and motor torque and rotational speed (TN) curve, the minimum and maximum gear reduction ratios were chosen as 1 : 50 and 1 : 64, respectively. The selected motor satisfied power requirements by meeting all working torque criteria with the gear reduction ratios. The chosen motor with a gear reduction ratio of 1 : 50 was suitable to fit with the motor T-N curve, and produced the maximum speeds and loads needed for driving and off-road activities. The findings of the study would assist in choosing a suitable gear reduction ratio for electric vehicle multi-purpose field operations.

  • The strength estimation is carried out for injection molded plastic stepped gear. The stepped gear is considered as a plate model which is fixed by two edges and freed on the other sides. The stress of common normal gear is calculated by Lewis formula which can be derived quite simply from the equation fur the stress at the root of a cantilever beam. Stress ratio(step factor) between the common normal gear and stepped gear is proposed for the ratio of the bending stress of normal gear and that of stepped gear. This study proposes the step factor added in Dupont equation which is used for strength estimation of injection molded plastic stepped gear.

  • In this study, design the core part of the driving of the robot. The power of the driving is window motor for automobiles obtained by using a method of directly to the motor shaft of the worm gear type. The decelerator consists of a worm gear to receive power from the motor shaft, Helical gear contact to worm gear, a pinion gear to be connected in line with the helical gear, and an output shaft to be engaged to the pinion gear. Drive system by using the power from the motor shaft based on the deceleration gear designed by the gear ratio set by the gear teeth increases the torque.

  • This paper presents the gear ratio of wobble motor, accounting for finite friction in contact point. The gear ratio of a wobble motor is affected by rotor slip, which is a function of motive torque, excitation angle, and friction torque. The gear ratio of a wobble motor can be expressed as a constant term plus a term that accounts for rotor slip. The ideal gear ratio is constant term and is equal to the rotor radius divided by the distance between the center of the rotor and the center of the stator. The rotor-slip term is shown to be directly proportional to the contact point friction torque and inversely proportional to the square of the excitation voltage.
