Since coaxial magnetic gears use non-contact power transmission, friction, wear, noise, and heat generated in the power transmission process of existing mechanical gears can be minimized. Currently, research for application to various industries is being actively conducted, but among the characteristics of coaxial magnetic gears, the problem of rapidly decreasing torque density at a high gear ratio was discussed. This paper proposes a direction for multiple gear combination using low gear ratio coaxial magnetic gears with high torque density. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the method, the torque density was compared with a single high gear ratio model, and the combination and design direction of multiple coaxial magnetic gears were shown.

In this paper, the element combination algorithm for designing an arbitrary type of the automatic transmissions is proposed. The powertrain simulation software using this algorithm is then developed. The deliveries of the angular velocities and torques are only considered for the motion characteristics of the automatic transmissions. The effects of the vibration and noise are not considered. The automatic transmission is defined by the basic elements, i.e., planetary gear set, clutch, brake, shaft, general gear, and inertia. The transmission system is defined by the combination of these elements. The element combination matrices automatically generate the equations of motion for each shift. The self error-correcting algorithm is also developed to verify the element combination algorithm. This automotive powertrain simulation/design software with user-friendly graphic user interface has two main modules. The first module, the automatic powerflow generation module, mainly consists of the automatic powerflow and component generation algorithms. This paper covers the theory and application for the first module. The second module deals with the automatic system generation algorithm and will be discussed in the second paper.

The motion of an aircraft landing gear over rough runway at variable speed is nonstationary. hi this paper, a method for the computation of nonstationary response variance is presented which uses a state space form for the combination of landing gear and runway excitation. The dynamic characteristics of the landing gear under nonstationazy random excitations has also been analyzed using the proposed method. The formulation is for linear systems of arbitrary order and allows any deterministic velocity history.

The purpose of this study was to design a powertrain for a 78 kW AWD (all wheel drive) electric tractor by analyzing the combination of various reduction gear ratios on a commercial motor using data from actual agricultural work and driving conditions. A load measurement system was constructed to collect data using wheel torque meters, proximity sensors, and a data acquisition system. Field experiments for measuring load data were performed for two environmental driving conditions (on asphalt and soil) and four agricultural operations (plow tillage, rotary tillage, loader operation, and baler operation). The attached implements and gear stages were selected through farmer surveys. The range of the reduction ratio was determined by selecting the minimum reduction ratio needed to satisfy the torque condition required for agricultural operations and the maximum reduction gear ratio to satisfy the maximum travel speed. The minimum reduction gear ratio selected was 57 in consideration of the working load condition and the maximum reduction gear ratio selected was 62 considering the maximum running speed. In the range of the reduction gear ratio 57 - 62, the selected motor satisfied all working torque conditions. As a result, the combination of the selected motor and reduction gear ratio was applicable for satisfying the loads required during agricultural operation and driving operation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the dissatisfaction with and design preferences for mountain gear among the segments divided by specialization activity-pursued for recreational mountaineering. Data were collected by questionnaire survey from 900 subjects with the experiences of mountaineering and purchasing mountain gear in the past year, and 891 were used for the data analysis. The results of the study were as follows: Three factors were formulated based on mountaineering specialization activity-pursued: expertise-pursued mountaineering, mountaineering with psychological attachment and activity-oriented mountaineering. Four segments were identified based on the specialization activity-pursued: the emotionally-committed, the continuously-participated, the expertise-pursued, and the passively-participated. Significant differences were found in dissatisfaction with and design preference for mountain gear among the segments. The expertise-pursued tended to be more dissatisfied with color and fabric than the others, and preferred various mountain gear design of shape, color combination and construction line. On the other hand, the passively-participated tended to prefer simple and comfortable style with solid color and simple color combination.
The composite planetary gear reducer, a power transmission component of armored vehicles, operates at a high torque and is used in severe environments such as mountain, gravel or unpaved roads. Therefore, they must be designed and manufactured to have high durability. To design such a planetary gear reducer, there are numerous specifications to validate, such as selecting the module and the number of teeth of each gear satisfied the requirements, and calculating gear specifications and durability strength. Because planetary gears constitute a combination of several gears, there are many restrictions and interferences in selecting the number of teeth and addendum modification coefficients, and designing the tooth shape. Developing an auto design program is necessary to design various planetary gears more conveniently and quickly. In this study, a planetary gear reducer design software, widely used in various machines and armored vehicles, was developed. This design software can automatically select the number of teeth and modules of the gears, calculate specifications and quickly evaluate its fatigue durability strength and scoring failure according to the planetary gear reducer design theory.

To design the optimized low noise planetary gear sets, a program called pRMC(planetary run many cases) is developed. The pRMC is especially using a combination analysis method for all gear specifications and also able to analyze any type of planetary gear sets. The pRMC is composed of the 5 sections those are generate, setting, evaluate, combine and analysis. After calculating all candidate gear sets, the pRMC could show many results that represent the character of each gear set including the transmission error which is the main gear noise factor, the contact ratios, the bending stress and so on. By comparing the results objectively, user could predict and select the optimized gear set which has quiet noise level and desired durability. The planetary gear designed by pRMC could have reduced noise and vibration level from 5 to 10 dB than previous-designed one.

In a passenger car automatic transmission, the gear ratio is determined by the combination of clutches and brakes, and each element of th planetary gear set is rotated or held stationary by the action of them. In this study, to investigate the shift characteristics of automatic transmission, the equations of motion are derived from the dynamic model of Ravigneaux type planetary gear set and solved analytically. The shift characteristics of each element of planetary gera set during gear ratio change are investigated by considering the torques and velocities of input, reaction and output elements.

It has been found by a series of simulation that correlation parameter, damping coefficients of landing gear and tire, and velocity profiles play a prominent role on the dynamic characteristics.

A planetary gear train is more compact and endures greater amounts of transmission power compared to other gear systems. Although planetary gear systems operate in small volumes, they are capable of very high efficiency due to the compact combination of their gears in the planetary gear system. They also have outstanding efficiency of only 3% for power transmission, tantamount to the power loss that occurs in each of the shift stages. Given these advantages, planetary gear systems are used in the driving systems of, which are widely used in automobile transmissions, machine tools, semiconductor equipment, and in other areas in industrial fields. Current structural equipment requires higher efficiency and greater torque levels. According to these needs, we have designed a complex planetary gear system which creates higher levels of torque. In this paper, an evaluation of strength designs for the proposed planetary gear system was conducted to ensure the stability of the gear. In addition, a durability analysis based on Miner's rule was performed using RS B 0095 device.
