Bluetooth is a common wireless technology that is widely used as a connection medium between various consumer electronic devices. The Bluetooth receiver usually adopts a Viterbi algorithm to improve signal-to-noise ratio performance, but requires complex hardware and calculations for continuous search and estimation for the irrational modulation indexes at the transmission. This paper proposes a non-coherent maximum estimation based 8-State Viterbi FSM to solve these complexity problems. The proposed optimal Viterbi FSM can detect Gaussian frequency-shfit keying symbol without any prior information and estimation for the modulation indexes. The HV1/HV2 packets are used for the estimation of the proposed algorithm and the simulation results have shown performance improvements with about 2dB for 10-3 BER compared to other ideal approaches such as decision direct method.
Background: Any real application of Bayesian inference must acknowledge that both prior distribution and likelihood function have only been specified as more or less convenient approximations to whatever the analyzer's true belief might be. If the inferences from the Bayesian analysis are to be trusted, it is important to determine that they are robust to such variations of prior and likelihood as might also be consistent with the analyzer's stated beliefs. Materials and Methods: The robust Bayesian inference was applied to atmospheric dispersion assessment using Gaussian plume model. The scopes of contaminations were specified as the uncertainties of distribution type and parametric variability. The probabilistic distribution of model parameters was assumed to be contaminated as the symmetric unimodal and unimodal distributions. The distribution of the sector-averaged relative concentrations was then calculated by applying the contaminated priors to the model parameters. Results and Discussion: The sector-averaged concentrations for stability class were compared by applying the symmetric unimodal and unimodal priors, respectively, as the contaminated one based on the class of ${\varepsilon}$-contamination. Though ${\varepsilon}$ was assumed as 10%, the medians reflecting the symmetric unimodal priors were nearly approximated within 10% compared with ones reflecting the plausible ones. However, the medians reflecting the unimodal priors were approximated within 20% for a few downwind distances compared with ones reflecting the plausible ones. Conclusion: The robustness has been answered by estimating how the results of the Bayesian inferences are robust to reasonable variations of the plausible priors. From these robust inferences, it is reasonable to apply the symmetric unimodal priors for analyzing the robustness of the Bayesian inferences.
In vocabulary recognition using HMM(Hidden Markov Model) by model for the observation of a discrete probability distribution indicates the advantages of low computational complexity, but relatively low recognition rate. Improve them with a HMM model is proposed for the optimization of the Bayesian methods. In this paper is posterior distribution and prior distribution in recognition Gaussian mixtures model provides a model to optimize of the Bayesian methods vocabulary recognition. The result of applying the proposed method, the recognition rate of 97.9% in vocabulary recognition, respectively.
In this paper, we propose an image registration method by optimization of mutual information to provide a significant infonnation from multimodality images. The method applies mutual infonnation to measure the statistical dependency'r information redundancy between the image intensities of corresponding pixels in both images, which is assumed to be maximal if the images are geometrically aligned. We show the registration results optimizing mutual information between brain MR image and brain CT image and the comparison results with additive gaussian noise. Since our method uses the native image rather than prior segmentation or feature extraction, no user interaction is required and the accuracy of registration is improved. In addition, it shows the robustness against the noise.

In simulation-based circuit optimization, many simulation runs may be wasted while evaluating infeasible designs, i.e. the designs that do not meet the constraints. To avoid such a waste, this paper investigates the use of support vector machine (SVM) classifiers in predicting the design's feasibility prior to simulation and the optimal selection of the SVM parameters, namely, the Gaussian kernel shape parameter ${\gamma}$ and the misclassification penalty parameter C. These parameters affect the complexity as well as the accuracy of the model that SVM represents. For instance, the higher ${\gamma}$ is good for detailed modeling and the higher C is good for rejecting noise in the training set. However, our empirical study shows that a low ${\gamma}$ value is preferable due to the high spatial correlation among the circuit design candidates while C has negligible impacts due to the smooth and clean constraint boundaries of most circuit designs. The experimental results with an LC-tank oscillator example show that an optimal selection of these parameters can improve the prediction accuracy from 80 to 98% and model complexity by $10{\times}$.
Agricultural meteorological information is an important resource that affects farmers' income, food security, and agricultural conditions. Thus, such data are used in various fields that are responsible for planning, enforcing, and evaluating agricultural policies. The meteorological information obtained from automatic weather observation systems operated by rural development agencies contains missing values owing to temporary mechanical or communication deficiencies. It is known that missing values lead to reduction in the reliability and validity of the model. In this study, the hierarchical Bayesian spatio-temporal model suggests replacements for missing values because the meteorological information includes spatio-temporal correlation. The prior distribution is very important in the Bayesian approach. However, we found a problem where the spatial decay parameter was not converged through the trace plot. A suitable spatial decay parameter, estimated on the bias of root-mean-square error (RMSE), which was determined to be the difference between the predicted and observed values. The latitude, longitude, and altitude were considered as covariates. The estimated spatial decay parameters were 0.041 and 0.039, for the spatio-temporal model with latitude and longitude and for latitude, longitude, and altitude, respectively. The posterior distributions were stable after the spatial decay parameter was fixed. root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and bias were calculated for model validation. Finally, the missing values were generated using the independent Gaussian process model.

In conventional, skin detection methods using for skin color definitions is based on prior knowledge. By experimentation, the threshold value for dividing the background from the skin region is determined subjectively. A drawback of such techniques is that their performance is dependent on a threshold value which is estimated from repeated experiments. To overcome this, the present paper introduces a skin region detection method. This method uses a histogram approximation based on the mean shift algorithm. This proposed method applies the mean shift procedure to a histogram of a skin map of the input image. It is generated by comparing with the standard skin colors in the $C_bC_r$ color space. It divides the background from the skin region by selecting the maximum value according to the brightness level. As the histogram has the form of a discontinuous function. It is accumulated according to the brightness values of the pixels. It is then, approximated by a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) using the Bezier curve technique. Thus, the proposed method detects the skin region using the mean shift procedure to determine a maximum value. Rather than using a manually selected threshold value, as in existing techniques this becomes the dividing point. Experiments confirm that the new procedure effectively detects the skin region.
Cell segmentation and counting represent one of the most important tasks required in order to provide an exhaustive understanding of biological images. Conventional features suffer the lack of spatial consistency by causing the joining of the cells and, thus, complicating the cell counting task. We propose, in this work, a cascade of networks that take as inputs different versions of the original image. After constructing a Gaussian pyramid representation of the microscopy data, the inputs of different size and spatial resolution are given to a cascade of deep convolutional autoencoders whose task is to reconstruct the segmentation mask. The coarse masks obtained from the different networks are summed up in order to provide the final mask. The principal and main contribution of this work is to propose a novel method for the cell counting. Unlike the majority of the methods that use the obtained segmentation mask as the prior information for counting, we propose to utilize the hidden latent representations, often called the high-level features, as the inputs of a neural network based regressor. While the segmentation part of our method performs as good as the conventional deep learning methods, the proposed cell counting approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

We propose a probabilistic fish growth model for smart aquaculture systems equipped with IoT sensors that monitor the ecological environment. As IoT sensors permeate into smart aquaculture systems, environmental data such as oxygen level and temperature are collected frequently and automatically. However, there still exists data on fish weight, tank allocation, and other factors that are collected less frequently and manually by human workers due to technological limitations. Unlike sensor data, human-collected data are hard to obtain and are prone to poor quality due to missing data and reading errors. In a situation where different types of data are mixed, it becomes challenging to develop an effective fish growth model. This study explores the unique characteristics of such a combined environmental and weight dataset. To address these characteristics, we develop a preprocessing method and a probabilistic fish growth model using mixed data sampling (MIDAS) and overlapping mixtures of Gaussian processes (OMGP). We modify the OMGP to be applicable to prediction by setting a proper prior distribution that utilizes the characteristic that the ratio of fish groups does not significantly change as they grow. We conduct a numerical study using the eel dataset collected from a real smart aquaculture system, which reveals the promising performance of our model.
The prediction error variances for frequencies are usually considered as unknown in the Bayesian system identification process. However, the error variances for mode shapes are taken as known to reduce the dimension of an identification problem. The present study attempts to explore the effectiveness of Bayesian approach of model parameters updating using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique considering the prediction error variances for both the frequencies and mode shapes. To remove the ergodicity of Markov Chain, the posterior distribution is obtained by Gaussian Random walk over the proposal distribution. The prior distributions of prediction error variances of modal evidences are implemented through inverse gamma distribution to assess the effectiveness of estimation of posterior values of model parameters. The issue of incomplete data that makes the problem ill-conditioned and the associated singularity problem is prudently dealt in by adopting a regularization technique. The proposed approach is demonstrated numerically by considering an eight-storey frame model with both complete and incomplete modal data sets. Further, to study the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a comparative study with regard to accuracy and computational efficacy of the proposed approach is made with the Sequential Monte Carlo approach of model parameter updating.
