Neural Network-Based Modeling for Fuel Consumption Prediction of Vehicle (차량 연료 소모량 예측을 위한 신경회로망 기반 모델링)

  • This paper presented neural network modeling method using vehicle data to predict fuel consumption. To acquire data for training and testing the proposed neural network, medium-class gasoline vehicle drove at downtown and parameters measured include speed, engine rpm, throttle position sensor (TPS), and mass air flow (MAF) as input data, and fuel consumption as target data from OBD-II port. Multi layer perception network was used for nonlinear mapping between the input and the output data. It was observed that the neural network model can predict the vehicle quite well with mean squared error was $1.306{\times}10^{-6}$ for the fuel consumption.

Study on Driving System for Tidal Flat Vehicle (연약갯벌 차량용 주행장치 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a design approach of driving system for tidal flat vehicle. Firstly, topographic and geological survey of tidal flat zone was accomplished. 'Anac' located in the west-south coast of South Korea was chosen for the survey area. From the survey, the basic design data such as distribution of gullies size and bearing pressure was obtained. To figure out the shape of driving system, numerical simulations were carried out. Through the numerical dynamic simulations using $Recurdyn^{TM}$, the performance of various concepts of driving system was analyzed. From the results, we propose the conceptual design with the functions: a) low contact pressure, b) powerful driving force transmission, c) adaptation to the ground undulation. To satisfy these functional requirements, the driving system adopts rubber tracks, sprockets, tires and suspensions. The static structural analysis of the frame structure was executed as well, from which the detailed design was drawn out. To validate the performance of the designed driving system, the test vehicle which has gasoline engine of 27HP and mechanical transmission was constructed. The driving tests of the vehicle were performed twice at the "Anac" area, and unveiled its capability.

  • Exhaust gas emissions from internal combustion engines are one of the major sources of air pollution. And. it is extremely difficult to increase gasoline engine efficiency and to reduce NOx and PM(particulate matter) simultaneously in diesel combustion. This paper offers some basic concepts to overcome the above problems. To solve the problems, a recommended technique is CAI(controlled auto-ignition) combustion. In this paper. internal EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) effect is suggested to realize CAI combustion. An experimental study was carried out to achieve CAI combustion using homogeneous premixed gas mixture in the constant volume combustion chamber(CVCC). A flame trap was used to simulate internal EGR effect and to increase flame propagation speed in the CVCC. Flame propagation photos and pressure signals were acquired to verify internal EGR effect. Flame trap creates high speed burned gas jet. It achieves higher flame propagation speed due to the effect of geometry and burned gas jet.

  • Spray impingement and fuel film formation models were developed and incorporated into the computational fluid dynamics code. STAR-CD. The spray/wall interaction process was modeled by considering the change of behaviour with surface temperature conditions and the fuel film formation. We divided the behaviour of fuel droplets after impingement into rebound, spread and splash using the Weber number and the parameter K. The Spray impingement model accounts for mass conservation, energy conservation and heat transfer to the impinging droplets. The fuel film formation model was developed by integrating the continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations along the direction of fuel film thickness. Validation of the models was conducted using previous diesel spray experimental data and the present experimental results for the gasoline spray impingement. In all the cases, the prediction compared reasonably well with the experimental results. The spray impingement and fuel film formation models have been applied to the spray/wall impingement in high speed direct injection diesel engines.

The development of cooling system in the gasoline engine with the aluminum alloy cylinder block (알루미늄 합금 실린더 블럭을 적용한 가솔린 엔진의 냉각계 개발)

  • 본 논문에서는 주철 라이너를 삽입한 알루미늄 블럭 엔진 개발과정에서 주조 불량이 발생하였을때, 냉각계에 일어나는 제반 현상을 분석하고, 이를 해결해 나가는 과정을 기술하였다. 이를 위하여 주철 블럭과 알루미늄 블럭을 장착한 엔진의 피스톤 온도와 블럭의 열유속, 열정산을 측정하였다. 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 블럭 사이에 공기층이 크거나, 용탕 충진이 불완전한 주조 불량이 발생하면 열접촉 저항이 커져 엔진 열전달 경로에 큰 영향을 준다. 2. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면 피스톤에서 라이너로의 전열량이 줄어듦에 따라 냉각수로의 전열량은 감소하는데, 6,000rpm, 전부하에서 알루미늄 블럭의 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비는 38.3%이고, 주철 블럭은 44.1%이다. 3. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면, 피스톤 온도가 15-20.deg.C 정도 상승하여 피스톤 손상을 유발시킬 수 있다. 4. 알루미늄 블럭의 주조가 완벽하게 되어 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 몸체 사이에서의 열접촉저항이 없어지면, 스토로크 방향에 따른 금속면 온도 분포가 균일하게 된다. 5. 실린더 라이너의 주조상태 개선없이 오일젯을 사용한 결과 피스톤의 온도를 만족할 만한 수준으로 감소시켰다. 6. 6000rpm, 전부하에서 오일젯 적용시 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비가 38.3%에서 36.2%로 감소하고, 출력대비 오일로의 방열량의 비는 9.6%에서 11.2%로 증가한다. 7. 오일젯 작용시 오일 펌프의 용량 증대와 오일 쿨러의 장착이 필수적이다.

Numerical Analysis of Flow Characteristics of the Filter for Separating Oil Mist from Blow-by Gas (블로바이 가스 내 오일입자들을 제거하기 위한 필터의 유동특성 수치해석)

  • This research was performed to determine the oil separation characteristics of the specially designed oil filter installed in a PCV cylinder head passage. The oil filter was specially designed with fleece for separating oil mist from blow-by gas. The fleece, made of fiber fabric material, is placed in the oil filter case to absorb oil mist with a small pressure drop during blow-by gas through the filter. To do this, 3-D CFD analysis was simulated for the simplified PCV system with the oil filter using the commercial code, Ansys CFX. Results showed that the oil filter's efficiency with fleece sharply increased as oil droplet size increased.

  • Controlled auto-ignition(CAI) combustion, offers the potential to improve fuel economy and reduce emission simultaneously. In this study, CAI-combustion was achieved in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine with modified camshafts in order to restrict the gas exchange process. We investigated the effects of air-fuel ratio, residual EGR rate and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable CAI combustion region. The effect of injection timings on combustion characteristic such as start of combustion, combustion duration and heat release rate was also investigated. From the result early injection causes the mixture to ignite earlier and burn more quickly due to the exothermic reaction during the recompression and gives rise to good mixing of the fuel/air. On the other hand, late injection extended the operation region more than early injection but the emissions of HC and NOx were more or less increased than early injection.

  • The possibility of conversion to the RC-MAT propulsion system (gasoline engine → electric motor) was studied. However, as commercial battery capacities are low. it is not possible to change the propulsion system. Nevertheless, development of nex-generation batteries is necessary for high capacity and high energy density. Although Li/S batteries are theoretically suitable as new generation batteries, these batteries are not composed of only Li and S. Hence, ensuring high energy density can be difficult. Moreover, electrolytes are important components in the study of energy density; hence, the battery by Li2S8 Molarity was sorted. There are no studied on its various electrode components. In this study, a Li/S battery was fabricated using an assorted 3D sulfur electrode of high energy density and its electrochemical properties were studied. The Li/S battery has a high energy density of 468 Wh/kg at 1.28 M Li2S8 (A805-1.28). Its capacity rapidly decreased after 1 cycle with more than 1 M Li2S8.

Basic Study on Spray Behavior for Application of Biofuel to Diesel Engines (Palm Oil-Considering Viscosity) (바이오연료의 엔진 적용을 위한 분무거동 기초연구(팜유-점성고려))

  • Diesel engines are most suitable for biodiesel fuel because diesel fuel has a higher cetane number compared to gasoline and diesel engines have no spark ignition system; hence, engine conversion is easy and cost effective. For these reasons, in this study, the spray behavior characteristics of vegetable palm oil were analyzed by using a common-rail injection system of a commercial diesel engine, and the results were compared with those obtained for the diesel fuel. The injection pressures and blend ratios of palm oil and diesel fuel (BD3, BD5, BD20, BD30, BD50, and BD100) were the main parameters. The experiments were conducted for different injection pressures-500 bar, 1000 bar, 1500 bar, and 1600 bar-by setting the injection duration at $500{\mu}s$. We determined there is no significant difference in the macro characteristics of the spray behavior (spray penetration and spray angle) in response to any change in the blend ratio of palm oil and diesel fuel at a fixed injection pressure. In particular, all experiments showed a spray angle of approximately $15^{\circ}$.

Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in used lubricating car oils (차량용 폐윤활유에 함유된 다환 방향족 탄화수소 (PAHs)의 분석)

  • Determination of some PAHs in used engine oils have been carried out by extraction of the components into acetonitrile followed by GC/FID and synchronous spectrofluorimetric technique. 7 PAHs, such as acenaphthene (Ace), anthracene (Anth), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), chrysene (Chry), phenanthrene (Phen), fluoranthene (Ft), and perlyrene (Per) in used engine oil sample were able to determine separately by synchronous spectrofluorimetry. Calibration curves for those components were linear for the concentration range of 0.4~166 ppb PAHs with the corelation factor of 0.9985~0.9999. The peak areas produced by GC/FID split ratio program were used for the calibration curves of the other 8 PAHs. Detection sensitivity of the synchronous spectrofluorimetry seems to be 100 times more sensitive than GC/FID method. The total amount of PAHs in the used engine oil were 5.5 ng/g for LNG (bus), 10.5 ng/g for LPG(taxi), 92.2 ng/g for gasoline-passenger car, and 130 ng/g for diesel trailer, respectively.
