Major causes of industrial accidents include falls and gas leak. The existing safety helmet and smart device combination products are focused on convenience, so the functions to prevent such accidents are insufficient. We developed a smart helmet focusing on fall accident detection and gas leak detection. We also developed management system to manage workers efficiently. Its core function is to detect dangerous conditions of employees, to communicate with managers and to confirm the situations of workers. The effectiveness of the combustible gas measurement capability was verified through experiments. However, since a significant amount of power consumption is founded due to continuous operation of the board and the sensor, countermeasures such as replacing with a large capacity battery are required.

This study analyzes the optimal location of gas detectors through the gas dispersion in a cargo compressor room of a 174K LNG carrier equipped with high-pressure cargo handling equipment; in addition, we propose a reasonable method for determining the safety regulations specified in the new International Code of the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC). To conduct an LNG gas dispersion simulation in the cargo compressor room-equipped with an ME-GI engine-of a 174 K LNG carrier, the geometry of the room as well as the equipment and piping, are designed using the same 3D size at a 1-to-1 scale. Scenarios for a gas leak were examined under high pressure of 305 bar and low pressure of 1 bar. The pinhole sizes for high pressure are 4.5, 5.0, and 5.6mm, and for low pressure are 100 and 140 mm. The results demonstrate that the cargo compressor room will not pose a serious risk with respect to the flammable gas concentration as verified by a ventilation assessment for a 5.6 mm pinhole for a high-pressure leak under gas rupture conditions, and a low-pressure leak of 100 and 140 mm with different pinhole sizes. However, it was confirmed that the actual location of the gas detection sensors in a cargo compressor room, according to the new IGC code, should be moved to other points, and an analysis of the virtual monitor points through a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation.
Accidental oil and gas leak is a critical concern for the offshore industry because it can lead to severe consequences and as a result, it is imperative to evaluate the probabilities of occurrence of the consequences of the leakage in order to assess the risk. Event Tree Analysis (ETA) is a technique to identify the consequences that can result from the occurrence of a hazardous event. The probability of occurrence of the consequences is evaluated by the ETA, based on the failure probabilities of the sequential events. Conventional ETA deals with events with crisp failure probabilities. In offshore applications, it is often difficult to arrive at a single probability measure due to lack of data or imprecision in data. In such a scenario, fuzzy set theory can be applied to handle imprecision and data uncertainty. This paper presents fuzzy ETA (FETA) methodology to compute the probability of the outcomes initiated due to oil/gas leak in an actual offshore-onshore installation. Post FETA, sensitivity analysis by Fuzzy Weighted Index (FWI) method is performed to find the event that has the maximum contribution to the severe sequences. It is found that events of 'ignition', spreading of fire to 'equipment' and 'other areas' are the highest contributors to the severe consequences, followed by failure of 'leak detection' and 'fire detection' and 'fire water not being effective'. It is also found that the frequency of severe consequences that are catastrophic in nature obtained by ETA is one order less than that obtained by FETA, thereby implying that in ETA, the uncertainty does not propagate through the event tree. The ranking of severe sequences based on their probability, however, are identical in both ETA and FETA.
Due to the recent public awareness of global warming and sustainable economic growth, there has been a growing interest in alternative clean energy sources. Hydrogen is considered as a clean fuel for the next generation. One of the technical challenges related to the use of hydrogen is safe monitoring of the hydrogen leak during separation, purification and transportation. For detecting various gases, chemiresistor-type gas sensors have been widely studied and used due to their well-established detection scheme and low cost. However, it is known that many of them have the limited sensitivity and slow response time, when used at low temperature conditions. In our work, a sensor based on Schottky barriers at the electrode/sensing material interface showed promising results that can be utilized for developing fast and highly sensitive gas sensors. Our hydrogen sensor was designed and fabricated based on indium oxide (In2O3)-doped tin oxide (SnO2) semiconductor nanoparticles with platinum (Pt) nanoclusters in combination with interdigitated electrodes. The sensor showed the sensitivity as high as $10^7%$ (Rair/Rgas) and the detection limit as low as 30 ppm. The sensor characteristics could be obtained via optimized materials synthesis route and sensor electrode design. Not only the contribution of electrical resistance from the film itself but also the interfacial effect was identified as an important factor that contribute significantly to the overall sensor characteristics. This promises the applicability of the developed sensor for monitoring hydrogen leak at room temperature.

According to extremely industrial growth, gas facilities, equipments and chemical plants are gradually increased due to incremental demands of annual amount of gases. The safety management of gases, however, is still far from their requirements. Methane, the principal ingredient of natural gas, is inflammable and explosive and is much used in factories and houses. Therefore, these gas safety management is essential. So, we, with a program of the gas safety management, hope to develop the detection system of methane gas leak using mid-infrared ray LED and PD with $3.2\;{\mu}m$. The cryogenic cooling device is indispensible at laser but needless at LED driven on the room temperature if manufacturing optical sensor with $3.2\;{\mu}m$. It, consequently, is not only possible to implement for subminiature and portable type but also able to speedily detect methane of extremely small quantities because the $CH_4$ absorption intensity at $3.2\;{\mu}m$ is stronger than that at $1.67\;{\mu}m$. Our objective of research is to prevent gas leak accidents from occurring previously and to minimize the extent of damage from them.
This study is in regard to the gas detection system and gas detection method utilizing smart phone. This study includes; 1) the sensor module attached to the smart phone to detect and measure flammable gas or toxic gas; and 2) gas detection APP which is installed inside the smart phone and recognizes the user information and location information automatically by reading RFID tag indicating the user or the location to detect gas through the contact area where RFID and blue tooth reader is installed inside of the above mentioned smart phone, and then measures the combustible gas or toxic gas by operating above mentioned sensor module and obtains the data thus measured, and above mentioned smart phone is characterized by its transmission of the above mentioned user information, location information and measured data which are obtained by above mentioned gas detecting APP to operation server via communication network. With this, reliability for the location detecting gas by the user, the result of the measurement, etc. can be secured. Furthermore, this provides the effect of preventing artificial manipulation at the time of input which is associated with the identification of the user to be measured by utilizing removable sensor module and application or the mistake resulted from wrong input by the user. In addition, by transmitting the measured data from the sensor module carrying out gas detection to operation server, this provides the effect of making it possible to process the data thus collected to a specialized data for combustible gas or toxic gas.
The deviation of measured pressures in pipeline networks from normal or reference pressures is useful information for judging the operation of the pipeline networks. A cost-effective monitoring of pipeline networks including a leak detection capability can be realized when transient pressure variation is accurately predicted using measured conditions at supply- and demand-sides of the networks. In this study, a pipeline network analysis program was developed based on one-dimensional flow equations for compressible fluids. The validity of the present analysis was demonstrated by simulating the flow in a straight pipeline and comparing the results with the previously reported ones. Pressure and flow rate transients in several simple city-gas pipeline networks were also analyzed to show the usefulness of the developed program.
Sulfur Hexafluoride, S $F_{6}$ is widely used for leak detection and as a gaseous dielectric in transformers, condensers and circuit breakers. S $F_{6}$ gas is also effective as a cleanser in the semiconductor industry. This paper presents a numerical study of the sealing force of disk type seal in S $F_{6}$ gas safety valve. The sealing force on the disk seal is analyzed by the FEM method based on the Taguch's experimental design technique. Disk seals in S $F_{6}$ gas safety valve are designed with 9 design models based on 3 different contact length, compressive ratio and gas pressure. The calculated results of Cauchy stress and strain showed that the sealing characteristics of Teflon $^{ }$PTFE is more effective compared to that of FKM(Viton), which is related to the stiffness of the materials. And also, the contact length of the disk seal is important design parameter for sealing the S $F_{6}$ gas leakage in the safety valve.afety valve.
In this study, the relationship between natural gas (NG) data and gas-related environmental elements was performed using machine learning algorithms to predict the level of gas leakage risk without directly measuring gas leakage data. The study was based on open data provided by the server using the IoT-based remote control Picarro gas sensor specification. The naturel gas leaks into the air, it is a big problem for air pollution, environment and the health. The proposed method is multivariate outlier removing method based Random Forest (RF) classification for predicting risk of NG leak. After, unsupervised k-means clustering, the experimental dataset has done imbalanced data. Therefore, we focusing our proposed models can predict medium and high risk so best. In this case, we compared the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, accuracy, area under the ROC curve (AUC), and mean standard error (MSE) for each classification model. As a result of our experiments, the evaluation measurements include accuracy, area under the ROC curve (AUC), and MSE; 99.71%, 99.57%, and 0.0016 for MOL_RF respectively.

Currently gas safety management in the industrial field has been done by LDAR as contact method or methane leak detector as non-contact method. But LDAR method requires a lot of man-power and methane leak detector have the limitation of methane only. Therefore the Research on the OGI(optical gas image) has big attention by industry. This research was undertaken to see the effect of background temperature difference of gas cloud on the clarity of OGI. The background temperature control panel was constructed to cool down the background temperature. OGI was taken at the various methane gas ejection rate and the designed temperature difference. The experimental results showed that the OGI(when the temperature difference is $-6^{\circ}C$) is more clear thane the OGI(when the temperature difference is zero). To quantify the clarity difference, MATLAB's RGB analysis method was employed. The RGB value of the OGI at ${\Delta}T-6^{\circ}C$ was 20% lower than the OGI at ${\Delta}T0^{\circ}C$. The clarity difference by T difference can be explained by the total radiation law. When the background temperature of the gas is lower than the air temperature, the radiation energy coming into the OGI lens is increasing. As the energy is increasing, the OGI image becomes clear.
