  • Seeds of Clerodendron trichotomum and Lindera obtusiloba were screened for organic acids. Free organic acids were solid-phase extracted using Chromosorb P from aqueous extract of the seed powder. Organic acids were then converted to tert.-buthldimethylsilyl derivatives with subsequent analysis by dual-capillary gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. More than twenty organic acids were tentatively identified.

  • We describe here solid-extraction and derivatisation methods of ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor blocking drugs used for the treatment of various cardiovascular disorders such as hypertension, angina pectoris and cardiac arrhythmia: propranolol, metoprolol, sotalol, timolol, oxprenolol, alpranolol, atenolol, pindolol. Solid-extraction and derivatisation methods are described involving the use of Bond Elut Certify cartridges, MSTFA and MBTFA. Gas chromatographic-mass spectrometry analysis(GC/MS) was carried out select-ion monitroing mode. (omitted)

  • A gas chromatographic oil fingerprinting method is a technique used for comparative source identification of spilled oil. The hydrocarbon and sulfur compound analysis by gas chromatography are generally used for analyzing oils. However, due to the complexity of oils, another technique is also needed for comparative identification. In this study, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contained in crude oil and heavy fuel oil are analyzed by gas chromatography. They are relatively unaffected by weathering condition because they are stable. The oil fingerprinting of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by GC seems to be a reliable technique for analyzing oils in identification of sources and kinds of oils.

  • Recenty, the pesticides Pollutions in connection with the maintenance of dietary life are poised as serious sanitary problems. Author have established an appropriate analysis method in this connection and, at the same time, analysed the levels of pesticides residues, such as organochloride pesticides and organic mercurials, contained in main cereals (rice, barley, and wheat) collected throughout the country. Using gas liquid chromatography method, comparative analyses were made of organochloride Pesticides with electron capture detector, and organic mercurials with electron capture detector and the Dithizone Method. As a result, the organic mercurials analysis using gas liquid chromatography is believed to hold out an especially good method for both in terms of its sensitivity and its Practical applications. The summary obtained from these results is as follows; The detectable limit of organochloride pesticides is $5\times10^{-10}$ grams and that of organic mecurials is $5\times10^{-9}$ grams. The detections using the Dithizone Method are difficult. The gas liquid chromatographic analysis of organic mercurials is very simple in its operation and high in its sensitivity, compare with the analysis using the Dithizone Method. Therefore, this analysis is expected to be a good method applicable to the pesticide residues analysis. The levels of pesticide residues contained in samples are very little for tolerance and, therefore, no problem i.: foreseen for eating. The appropriate conditions of gas liquid chromatographic analysis obtained from these results are expected very useful for the date establishing an officially authorized analysis method.

  • A gas chromatographic method for the determination of airborne formaldehyde was established. In order to be highly detectable with the electron capture detector, formaldehyde was derivatized to its pentafluorobenzyl oxime form by reacting with O- (2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine hydrochloride (PFBHA) at pH of 4.6 and temperature of 50$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Air samples were collected into a Tedlar$\^$(R)/ bag followed by transferring into water contained in two impingers in series. Collection efficiency in the front trap was higher than 90%. Measurement of selected indoor and outdoor air samples showed higher formaldehyde concentrations in indoor air environments and the importance of ventilation for reducing indoor pollution.

  • The herb of Agastache rugosa (Lamiaceae) called Korean mint as a spice or Agastache Herba as a crude drug is known to contain highly fragrant volatile substances. This research aimed to establish the quantitative gas chromatography (GC) method on the essential oil of A. rugosa using the three standard compounds, estragole, methyleugenol, pulegone, and to find whether the essential oil has anti-Alzheimer's activity. The GC quantification method was established by determining the linearity of calibration curve ($R^2$), linear range, and both limit-of-detection (LOD) and limit-of-quantification (LOQ). The $IC_{50}$ of the essential oil on the activities of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) were determined to be $69.06{\pm}0.26$ and $76.71{\pm}0.58{\mu}g/ml$, respectively.

  • Flavor components extracted from eighty species of Korean ordinary soy sauce were analyzed by gas chromatography. The relationship between the sensory scores of soy sauce flavor and the gas chromatographic data transformed with variables were analysed by method of multiple regression analysis. Simple correlation between values of each peak and sensory scores were totally low. The tenth and 12th peak had the highest correlation, 0.331. Determination coefficients of data obtained by transformation of each variables were not significantly different from each other. Flavor of soy sauce was explained about 56% at step 16 in case of stepwise multiple regression analysis of absolute values. The fact that the minimum standard errors of an estimate was found at the 16th step suggests the importance of selecting of independent variables from the whole gas chromatogram together with the results of F ratio. In the contributing proportion of each peak examined, peak 10 and 12 were contributing mainly to the good flavor of soy sauce.

  • 4, 8, 13-Duvatriene-1, 3-viols have been identified in the cuticular lipid of fresh Sohyang (aromatic cultivar) tobacco leaves. Their $\alpha, \beta$-isomers were directly separated by SE-54 glass capillary column and identified by mass spectrometry. Gas chromatographic analysis revealed that the duvatrienediols are major components in the culticular lipid of Nicotiana Tabacum.

  • Seed lipids and proteins of Crotalaria juncea L were analyzed for fatty acids and amino acids respectively. Gas chromatographic analysis of the oil gave palmitic acid (16.01%), stearic acid (7.29%), oleic acid (14.41%), linoleic acid (54.44%) and linolenic acid (7.86%). The defatted seed cake contained all the essential amino acids except methionine and six non-essential amino acids.

  • The concentration of styrne in blood of the occupationally syrene-exposed workers was checked by gas chromatographic headspace analysis. Mandelic acd in urine, that is a major metabolite of styrene, and hippuric acid wre also analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography. For the biological monitoring of styrene-exposed workers, the routine method of the quantitative determination of styrene nad its metabolites in the biolgical samples were studied.
