  • Depending on the living styles, the types of energy consumed by households have changed, and the consumption has increased rapidly. Consequently, those have led to environmental issues, such as exhaustion of energy and the climate changes. As one of solutions to such issues, energy efficiency can be approached. Therefore, in this study, the gas water heater(115S type Rheem products) that made in Germany and obtain hot water using gas as a heat source is selected. a $1.0m^3$ water tank with a 6kW electronic heater is installed and a water temperature and pressure is maintain constantly also thermometer is injected. Two of gas meter, one of pressure regulator and three of time measurement devices are installed in a combustion facility and fuelling facility with a magnet valve so it can observe and record combustion reactions. Quantity of hot water that heated by boiler is recorded using a quantity measurement tank, and have been heated by the boiler have been to record and measure the amount and utilized the data acquired through measurement of all factors that are applied to acquire hot water in order to calculate the use rate of final energy. In conclusion, this researcher drew the economic strong points of the hot water generated by gas.

  • The BTEX contamination of soil around gas station in Korea was investigated in 53 gas stations in 2013 by official test method on soil pollution. Each gas station was divided into oil tank area, line area, and surrounding area. The concentration of BTEX in 1066 sites of 53 gas stations was N.D.~ 3437.36 mg/kg. The order of average concentration for area was as follows: line area ($20.91{\pm}144.79mg/kg$) > tank area ($15.11{\pm}110.08mg/kg$) > surrounding area ($10.79{\pm}111.40mg/kg$). It was the number of sampling site exceeding regulatory levels at surrounding area the most at all. The average concentration of xylene was the highest, while that of ethylbenzene was the lowest.

  • The outer tank of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank is a longitudinally and meridianally pre-stressed concrete (PSC) wall structure. Because of the current trend of constructing larger LNG storage tanks, the pre-stressing forces required to increase wall strength must be significantly increased. Because of the increase in tank sizes and pre-stressing forces, an extreme loading scenario such as a bomb blast or an airplane crash needs to be investigated. Therefore, in this study, the blast resistance performance of LNG storage tanks was analyzed by conducting a blast simulation to investigate the safety of larger LNG storage tanks. Test data validation for a blast simulation of reinforced concrete panels was performed using a specific FEM code, LS-DYNA, prior to a full-scale blast simulation of the outer tank of a 270,000-kL LNG storage tank. Another objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and serviceability of an LNG storage tank with respect to varying amounts of explosive charge. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the design and safety evaluation of PSC LNG storage tanks.

  • Recently the LNG(liquified natural gas) public buses have been introduced to prevent the air pollution in metropolitan areas. As the LNG temperature in fuel tank is as low as $-162^{\circ}C$. the thermal and structural effects of tank components need to be studied for safe introduction in the market. Especially the support system of LNG fuel tank in vehicle, which has connected with inside and outside of tanks, should put attention to reduce the structural stress due to cryogenic temperature and to restrict the heat flux from ambient. There are two supporting systems in the tank, that one is connected between inside and outside tanks by welding, and the other is the inserted support system which is a cylindrical SUS bar inserted in a hole of the supporting plate. In this study the temperature distribution and thermal stress of the inserted support system were evaluated by using the utility program as ANSYS. The results showed that the rate of heat transfer to inner tank through this support system was quite small due to limited contact of support bar with plate. but the thermal stress of support plate was obtained beyond the limited tensile value of SUS304. The cautious design for the support plate part, therefore, should be given to make the safe support system of LNG vehicle fuel tank.

  • The demand of LNG in Korea has dramatically increased since it was first imported in 1986. Thus, more LNG storage tanks are required to meet the growing consumption of LNG. However the design, construction, and analysis of LNG storage facility need highly advanced technology compared to the general structures due to the fluid-structure interaction and the low temperature of LNG. Recently Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS) constructed a pilot LNG storage tank, and it is in operation to develop and accumulate the core technology. As a part of those objects, the fundamental dynamic test for the pilot tank were performed. For this study, dynamic test were carried out and the dynamic characteristics of the pilot tank were verified and analyzed.

  • The possibility of manufacturing titanium hollow cylinder tank for ramjet engine was demonstrated with superplastic forming of subscale article. An innovative manufacturing method to produce complex configuration from titanium multi-sheets by low hydrostatic pressure was presented. Finite element analysis on superplastic blow forming process has been carried out in order to improve the forming process when manufacturing subscale hollow cylinder structure using Ti-6Al-4V multi-sheets. The simulation focused on the reduction of forming time and obtaining finally required shape throughout investigating the deformation mode of sheet according to the forming conditions and die geometry. From pre-sized titanium sheets, near net shape of hollow cylinder tank is obtained by superplastic blow forming conducted using gas pressure of 15bar at 1148K. The result shows that the manufacturing method with superplastic forming of multi-sheets of titanium alloy has been successful for near net shape forming of subscale hollow cylinder tank of ramjet engine.

  • This paper presents the coupled analysis method to calculate the temperature rise in a gas insulated busbar (GIB). Harmonic eddy current analysis is carried out and the power losses are calculated in the conductor and enclosure tank. Two methods are presented to analyze the temperature distribution in the conductor and tank. One is to solve the thermal conduction problem with the equivalent natural convection coefficient and is applied to a single phase GIB. The other is to employ the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool which directly solves the thermal-fluid equations and is applied to a three-phase GIB. The accuracy of both methods is verified by the comparison of the measured and calculated temperature in a single phase and three-phase GIB.

  • Cryogenic technology is one of the key technologies for fusion reactor equipped with superconducting coil for plasma confinement. The KSTAR(Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research)Project is in progress since 1996. Major parameters of the KSTAR tokamak are : major radius 1.8m, minor radius 0.5m, toroidal field 3.5 Tesla and plasma current 2MA with a strongly shaped plasma cross-section and double -null diverter. Considering practical engineering constraints, the KSTAR device is designed for a pulse length of 300 sec in up-graded operation mode but in the initial configuration would provide a pulse length of 20 sec provided by the poloidal coil system in base-line operation mode. The cryogenic system is composed as follows : cold box, helium compressor system, distribution box, helium gas buffer tank, helium gas purifying system, gas recovery system, liquid helium storage dewar, current lead box, current bus line and liquid nitrogen storage tank.

  • The utility of soil-gas surveys is directly proportional to their accuracy in reflecting and representing changes in the subsurface concentrations of source compounds. Passive soil-gas vapor-phase is merely a fractional trace of the source, so, as a matter of convenience, the units used in reporting detection values from EMFLUX surveys are smaller than those employed for source-compound concentrations. According to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank(LUST) Program Annual Report, approximately 16 U.S. million dollars were spent for environmental site investigations at over 1,600 Underground Storage Tank(UST) sites and approximately over 1,000 acres of land was characterized and remediated in the State of Illinois in the year of 2003 alone. The main purpose of this study is to propose an idea to significantly reduce the site investigation cost by utilizing a passive soil-gas survey and conventional intrusive drilling method and to fully define the three dimensional characteristics of subsurface contamination from two industrial drycleaning facilities.
