To better understand the exact nature of the major toxic compound responsible for phytotoxicity of sorghum stem, the most toxic compound from the stem extract was isolated by rapid chromatography and subsequently purified by thin-layer chromatography(TLC) and high pressure liquid chromatography(HPLC). Of the eight fractions isolated by rapid chromatography, the fraction with solvent combinations of butanol (8) : acetic acid (1) : water (1) had the highest toxicity. Further separation of the fraction by TLC in a solvent mixture of butanol (24) : acetic acid (16.4) : water (7) : propanol (1) showed that the spot with an $R_f$ 0.71 had one major peak with retention time of 20.40 minutes. Upon subjecting gas chromatography and the HPLC fraction to the mass spectrometry, the toxic compound is probably one of the four compounds ; 1-methyl-1-(2-propynyl)-hydrazine, 1-aziridineethanol, 5-chloro-2-pentanone, and 2-(methylseleno)-ethanamine.
Microalgal cultivation using wastewater is now regarded as essential for biodiesel production, as two goals can be achieved simultaneously; that is, nutrient removal efficiency and biomass production. Therefore, this study examined the effects of carbon sources, the N:P ratio, and the hydraulic retention time (HRT) to identify the optimal conditions for nutrient removal efficiency and biomass production. The effluent from a 2nd lagoon was used to cultivate microalgae. Whereas the algal species diversity and lipid content increased with a longer HRT, the algal biomass productivity decreased. Different carbon sources also affected the algal species composition. Diatoms were dominant with an increased pH when bicarbonate was supplied. However, 2% $CO_2$ gas led to a lower pH and the dominance of filamentous green algae with a much lower biomass productivity. Among the experiments, the highest chlorophyll-a concentration and lipid productivity were obtained with the addition of phosphate up to 0.5 mg/l P, since phosphorus was in short supply compared with nitrogen. The N and P removal efficiencies were also higher with a balanced N:P ratio, based on the addition of phosphate. Thus, optimizing the N:P ratio for the dominant algae could be critical in attaining higher algal growth, lipid productivity, and nutrient removal efficiency.
The voflatile fraction from Korean mandarin (Citrus reticula) and valencia orange essence oil were analyzed by capillary gas chromatography and the separated components were identified from their retention time and mass pectrum. The essence oil were extracted with methylene chloride after steam distillation. The major volatile constituents of mandarin and sweet orange was limonene which accounted for 68% of total volatiles in mandarin and 87% in sweet orange. The 31 components identified from mandarin include 11 hydrocarbones, 1 ester, 10 alcohols, 4 aldehydes, 5 miscellaneous. The following 37 components were identified in sweet orange; 12 hydrocarbones, 1 ester, 11 alcohols, 8 aldehydes, 5 misecellaneous. Mandarin contained more octanal, ${\alpha}-terpinene$, terpineol, styrene, dcitronellol, citronellal, citral and farnesol while orange included more sweet orange, myrcene, ${\beta}-pinene$, linallol, decanol, ${\beta}-copaene$, elemene, ${\beta}-cadinene$, valencene.
Experiments were carried out to study physico-chemical properties of citron and its products (Yu Ja cha). In addition, citron essence oil were analyzed by capillary gas chromatogaphy and the separated components were identified from their retention time and mass spectrum. The physicochemical properties as follows; soluble solid $8.8^{\circ}\;Bx$, acidity 2.1%, ratio of sugar and acid 4.2. Citron contained sucrose of 0.93%, glucose of 1.0% fructose of 1.17%. The following 28 components were identified in citron. The major volatile constituents of citron was limonene which accounted for 72.4% of total volatiles. Rest of the important compounds were ${\alpha}-pinene$, sabinene, myrcene, terpinene, terpinolene, ${\alpha}-copaene$, iso-caryophy-llene, ${\beta}-selinene$ and ${\alpha}-elemene$.

Numerical analysis was done to evaluate the gas flow distribution in small scale SCR system which has $2.4{\times}2.4{\times}3.1\;m^3$ in volume and 25,300 Sm3/hr in flue gas flow capacity. Various types of baffles proposed for controlling the flow uniformity were evaluated by the CFD analysis to find the optimal geometry of the baffle in the SCR system. By installing baffles in the SCR system, the RMS (%) value was raised up to 6.2% compared with the baffle-uninstalled state. The effect of baffle thicknesses on the RMS (%) value was not shown within 0 and 8 mm in thickness, but the RMS (%) value was raised by 2.5% in 10 mm of baffles thickness, which causes the unstability in flow. By comparison between the shape of baffles, it is known that the lattice type baffle has better performance in controlling the flow uniformity than the circular truncated cone type baffle or mixer type baffle. RMS (%) values have more that 10% difference according to the shape of baffle type.

The spherical $SiO_2$ powders were synthesized by the scaled-up ultrasonic pyrolysis (USP). The aqueous $SiO_2$ sol, which contained 20~30 nm $SiO_2$ particles, was used as a precursor for the scaled-up USP. The effects of the USP operating conditions and precursor conditions were systematically investigated, including reaction temperature, gas flow rate, and the concentration of $SiO_2$ sol on the morphologies of synthesized $SiO_2$ particles. the synthesized $SiO_2$ particle showed a pseudo-crystal phase, spherical morphology, and a smooth surface. The size of the spherical $SiO_2$ particle decreased as both reaction temperature increased and precursor concentration decreased. In addition, the synthesized $SiO_2$ particle size was increased by increasing the gas flow rate. Lastly, the scaled-up USP was compared with the lab-scale USP based on the same process conditions. Due to a short retention time in the reaction tube during the USP process, the $SiO_2$ particle synthesized via the lab-scale USP showed a larger particle size.

Disinfection by electrolysis would be useful for small wastewater treatment plant, combined sewer overflow, ballast water, swimming pool, and fish farming, where the transport, storage, and the use of chlorine gas is limited. This study investigated the feasibility of the electrolysis of dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl) for disinfection. The effects of HCl concentration, voltage and reaction time on the generation of oxidizing agents, HOCl, $O_3$, and $H_2O_2$, were examined in a series of batch test. The highest current efficiency was 99.3% which was found at 2.2%, 3 V, and 5 min of HCl concentration, voltage, and reaction time, respectively. Continuous electrolysis at 2.2% HCl, 3 V, and 5 min of the hydraulic retention time showed 97.4% of the current efficiency. Addition of sodium chloride up to 20 g/L linearly increased the oxidizing agents production. 92.2% of total coliforms were removed by the contact with the electrolyzed water.
This paper describes a pattern recognition method of Magnoliae flos based on a gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) analysis of the essential oil components. The botanical drug is mainly comprised of the four magnolia species (M. denudata, M. biondii, M. kobus, and M. liliflora) in Korea, although some other species are also being dealt with the drug. The GC/MS separation of the volatile components, which was extracted by the simultaneous distillation and extraction (SDE), was performed on a carbowax column (supelcowax 10; 30 m{\time}0.25 mm{\time}0.25{\mu}m$) using temperature programming. Variance in the retention times for all peaks of interests was within RSD 2% for repeated analyses (n = 9). Of the 74 essential oil components identified from the magnolia species, approximately 10 major components, which is $\alpha$-pinene, $\beta$-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, d-limonene, eucarlyptol (1,8-cineol), $\gamma$-terpinene, p-cymene, linalool, $\alpha$-terpineol, were commonly present in the four species. For statistical analysis, the original dataset was reduced to the 13 variables by Fisher criterion and factor analysis (FA). The essential oil patterns were processed by means of the multivariate statistical analysis including hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant analysis (DA). All samples were divided into four groups with three principal components by PCA and according to the plant origins by HCA. Thirty-three samples (23 training sets and 10 test samples to be assessed) were correctly classified into the four groups predicted by PCA. This method would provide a practical strategy for assessing the authenticity or quality of the well-known herbal drug, Magnoliae flos.

Plasticizers are materials added to give softness and elasticity to plastics having rigid properties to give soft properties as products, and they are mainly added to high molecular materials to give flexibility to improve workability and to improve cold resistance, resistance to volatility and electrical properties. It is used for the purpose. Most plasticizers are inert liquids, similar in function to solvents but with high molecular weight and no volatility. In addition, when dissolved in petrochemical products, only the plasticizer is separated by the matrix effect with other compounds, and qualitative and quantitative analysis. In this study, qualitative and quantitative analysis of DOA and DOP, which are representative components of petrochemical products, were conducted using MD-GC/MS and developed an optimal plasticizer analysis method.

Roy Huddle, having invented the coated particle in Harwell 1957, stated in the early 1970s that we know now everything about particles and coatings and should be going over to deal with other problems. This was on the occasion of the Dragon fuel performance information meeting London 1973: How wrong a genius be! It took until 1978 that really good particles were made in Germany, then during the Japanese HTTR production in the 1990s and finally the Chinese 2000-2001 campaign for HTR-10. Here, we present a review of history and present status. Today, good fuel is measured by different standards from the seventies: where $9*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was typical for early AVR carbide fuel and $3*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was acceptable for oxide fuel in THTR, we insist on values more than an order of magnitude below this value today. Half a percent of particle failure at the end-of-irradiation, another ancient standard, is not even acceptable today, even for the most severe accidents. While legislation and licensing has not changed, one of the reasons we insist on these improvements is the preference for passive systems rather than active controls of earlier times. After renewed HTGR interest, we are reporting about the start of new or reactivated coated particle work in several parts of the world, considering the aspects of designs/ traditional and new materials, manufacturing technologies/ quality control quality assurance, irradiation and accident performance, modeling and performance predictions, and fuel cycle aspects and spent fuel treatment. In very general terms, the coated particle should be strong, reliable, retentive, and affordable. These properties have to be quantified and will be eventually optimized for a specific application system. Results obtained so far indicate that the same particle can be used for steam cycle applications with $700-750^{\circ}C$ helium coolant gas exit, for gas turbine applications at $850-900^{\circ}C$ and for process heat/hydrogen generation applications with $950^{\circ}C$ outlet temperatures. There is a clear set of standards for modem high quality fuel in terms of low levels of heavy metal contamination, manufacture-induced particle defects during fuel body and fuel element making, irradiation/accident induced particle failures and limits on fission product release from intact particles. While gas-cooled reactor design is still open-ended with blocks for the prismatic and spherical fuel elements for the pebble-bed design, there is near worldwide agreement on high quality fuel: a $500{\mu}m$ diameter $UO_2$ kernel of 10% enrichment is surrounded by a $100{\mu}m$ thick sacrificial buffer layer to be followed by a dense inner pyrocarbon layer, a high quality silicon carbide layer of $35{\mu}m$ thickness and theoretical density and another outer pyrocarbon layer. Good performance has been demonstrated both under operational and under accident conditions, i.e. to 10% FIMA and maximum $1600^{\circ}C$ afterwards. And it is the wide-ranging demonstration experience that makes this particle superior. Recommendations are made for further work: 1. Generation of data for presently manufactured materials, e.g. SiC strength and strength distribution, PyC creep and shrinkage and many more material data sets. 2. Renewed start of irradiation and accident testing of modem coated particle fuel. 3. Analysis of existing and newly created data with a view to demonstrate satisfactory performance at burnups beyond 10% FIMA and complete fission product retention even in accidents that go beyond $1600^{\circ}C$ for a short period of time. This work should proceed at both national and international level.
