Corona Discharge In GIS Initiated by Free Conducting Particles (자유이물에 의한 GIS 내부 코로나특성 연구)

  • The Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS) has made it an indispensible part of power transmission network. In order that the GIS may have its high reliability, it is necessary to pay careful attention to its whole process e.g., designing, manufacturing, installation, and operation. The main hazard in GIS comes from free conducting particles, which can move and cause breakdown under the influence of the electric field. Although the concentration on protecting the GIS inner part against the free conducting particles is made, it is, actually, almost impossible to avoid the hazard from the particles throughly. In this paper, the corona discharge in GIS initiated by the free conducting particles was discribed through laboratorial experiment The magnitude of the corona discharge voltage was measured using current measuring method by the impedance. The purpose of this experiment is to get fundamental data which is essential to develop GIS diagnosis technology.

  • In this study, we simulated the developing process of two-dimensional corona discharge using the fluid method in 760 torr. It was assumed that the transport coefficients of nitrogen gas were only the function of local electric field. Discharge mechanisms considered were a Townsend first ionization and a secondary electron emission. We obtained spatio-temporal distribution of electron and ion by calculating continuity equation using FCT algorithm and calculated an electric field distribution considering a space charge.

  • The two-stage electrostatic air cleaner is a particle control device that uses electrical forces to move particles in the flowing gas stream onto collector plates. Despite a general understanding of electrostatic air cleaner operation and their successful use in industry, many questions regarding flow, electric fields and particle collection have remained unanswered. In this paper, an experimental investigation for designing the discharge electrode, including ionizer wire diameter, plate length and wire-to-plate spacing, is carried out. The electrical conditions, namely the electric field intensity, the space current and the particle charge intensity, in wire-plate electrostatic air cleaner are reported and examined.

  • Some interesting corona characteristics of a airgap of penpoint-to-plate with a tracing insulator paper has been investigated in a temperature and humidity controlled metal chamber. It is found that the positive and the negative carriers in the plasma region could be understood from the waterdrop traces on the paper, which indicate the bombardment by the one of electron or positive gas particle from the plasma region of near the point. It is also found that a corona discharge could be used as a means of a humidifying, since the discharge makes dispersion of watersprays from the penpoint. And the negative corona was more effective for waterspray dispersion than the positive ones.

  • In this paper, we studied about atmospheric pressure remote plasma ashing of photoresist(PR), by using a modified dielectric barrier discharge(DBD). The effect of various gas combinations such as $N_2/O_2$, $N_2/O_2+SF_6$ on the changes PR ashing rate was investigated as a function of power. The maximum PR ashing rate of 1850 nm/min was achieved at $N_2$ (70 slm)/ $O_2$ (200 sccm) + $SF_6$ (3 slm). We found that as the oxygen and fluorine radical peaks were increased, the ashing rate is increased, too.

  • Discussions on this paper are related to the effects of organic materials to treeing phenomena of low density polyethylene. As additives, 11 kinds of organic compounds are selected by considering the respective features such as melting point, boiling point, electron affinity as well as molecular structure, and then the specimens of low density polyethylene are prepared by blending with 10wt% of the selected additives. For the comparison of effectiveness of treeing resistance and interpretation of the mechanism of compounds as treeing retardants, several investigations such as the tree acceleration test, the prestressed test and the measurement of internally occurred partial discharge are carried out. As the results, meta-Cresol is regard as the most effective retardant among those, and it is supposed that this aromatic compound to be comprised of radical having large electron affinity has strong capability to accept energetic electron to prevent or delay the growth of discharge streamer. Furthermore, by activating partial discharge at the wall of tree pit through the function of trapped electron at this material, the gas pressure in the pit is increased up to prevent the growth of streamer.

Effect of dielectric barrier discharge parameters on degradation efficiency of ethyl acetate

  • Using self-made coil dielectric barrier discharge reactor, the removal efficiency of ethyl acetate under simulated experimental parameters such as initial concentration of waste gas, total flow rate, relative humidity and voltage was investigated. The results show that the degradation rate of ethyl acetate increases with the increase of output voltage. When other conditions remain unchanged, the degradation rate decreases with the increase of initial concentration of ethyl acetate; with the increase of total flow rate, the degradation rate of ethyl acetate decreases; with the increase of relative humidity, the degradation rate first increases and then decreases, and when the relative humidity is 64%, the degradation efficiency is the highest.

  • The efficient power MOSFET inverter applied for a simple and low cost power supply is proposed for driving the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) lamp load. For decades, the DBD phenomenon has been used for ozone gas production in industry. In this research, the ultraviolet and visible light sources utilizing the DBD lamp is considered as the load for solid-state high frequency power supply. It is found that the simple voltage-source single-ended quasi-resonant ZVS inverter with only one active power switch could effectively drive this load with the output power up to 700 W. The pulse density modulation based control scheme for the single-ended quasi-resonant ZVS inverter using a low voltage and high current power MOSFET switching device is proposed to provide a linear power regulation characteristic in the wide range 0-100% of the full power as compared with the conventional control based Royer type parallel resonant inverter type power supplies.

Self Reversal Effect of the High-pressured Diatomic Sulfur in the Electrodeless Sulfur Discharge Lamp (무전극 황방전등에서 고압 이원자 황($S_2$)의 자체 역전 효과)

  • A prototype electrodeless sulfur lamp was developed and investigated the spectroscopic characteristics. The emission spectra of $S_2$ in the microwave-discharged eletrodeless sulfur lamp (ESL) were studied at various input power. The emission spectra of the ESL shift to longer wavelength with increasing of the input power. We have shown that this is due to the self reversal effect in the high pressure gas discharge. We also show that the self reversal effect increases as the rotation of the discharged bulb. The spectral distribution of the ESL shifts about 45 nm toward visible region from UV region due to the rotation of the lamp bulb.

  • The study on discharge of the flat lamp lighting source has been requested increasingly. To improve the brightness, life time and efficiency of flat lamp, the plasma diagnosis of flat lamp lighting source is very important. When a distance of discharge electrode is 5.5mm and width is 16.5mm, we measured electron temperature and electron density with single Langmuir probe in flat lamp. Pressure conditions to test the plasma discharge from 100 Torr to 300 Torr. The power supply was PDS-4000 with frequency 20kHz and duty ratio $20\%.$ Form these experimental results, electron temperature was decreased according to increase the gas pressure and the voltage while electron density was increased.
