Air-gap effect on life boat arrangement for a semi-submersible FPU

  • In the offshore project such as semi-submersible FPU and FPSO, the free fall type life boat called TEMPSC (Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft) has been installed for the use of an emergency evacuation of POB (People on Board) from the topside platform. For the design of life boat arrangement for semi-submersible FPU in the initial design stage, the drop height and launch angle are required fulfill with the limitation of classification society rule and Company requirement, including type of approval as applicable when intact and damage condition of the platform. In this paper, we have been performed the numerical studies to find proper arrangement for the life boats consider drop height in various environmental conditions such as wave, wind and current. In the calculations, the contributions from static and low frequency (LF) motions are considered from the hydrodynamic and mooring analysis as well as damage angle from the intact and damage stability analysis. Also, Air-gap calculation at the life boat positions has been carried out to check the effect on the life boat arrangement. The air-gap assessment is based on the extreme air-gap method includes the effect of 1st order wave frequency (WF) motions, 2nd order low frequency roll/pitch motion, static trim/heel and set down.

  • BY the Transformers and reactors, the input electrical energy is converted into magnetic energy. At the end through the magnetic energy was passed at the output parameter. Specially At the flyback transformer or a reactor airgap were designed to contain more magnetic energy. But that work is very difficult for the optimal design. It is that Contradictions are between the length of the Air-gap, Winding inductance, DC bias. As to e Several conflicting conditions in order to determine the optimum Air-gap has a lot of experience and trial & error is necessary. The approach proposed in this paper, the auxiliary winding on the core attached to part of primary core, that by applying a DC voltage has a dramatic effect like Core with designed Air-gap. This inventiveness and advantage is to regulate arbitrarily the Saturation Flux Quantity by the input signal to secondary winding. Accordingly obtained the biggest effect is that increasing limits of the saturation current destined by the material and shape of the conventional core.   • Slot coating has been wide spread in photo-resist coating on the glass for liquid crystal display. Die in slot coater consists of manifold and land. Material comes in inlet of the die and flow into the manifold and then flow out through the land. The coating thickness variations along the die length depend upon inside of die design such as manifold and die land. However the coating thickness variations along the moving direction(coating direction) of the coater depend upon the operational conditions of coater as well as die lip design. The coating behaviors including atmospheric air have been investigated in this study. Die geometries considered in this study were nozzle gap and length of the die lip. Coating gap and coating speed were the variables fur coating operational conditions. When the nozzle gap and length of die lip increased climbing effect of PR on the downstream die lip was reduced. Subsequently uniformity of coating thickness improved. Uniformity of coating thickness also enhanced as coating gap and coater speed increased. The uniformity of coating gap was related to the velocity vector distributions on the coating surface.

Fault Current Limiting and Hysteresys Characteristics of a SFCL using Magnetic Coupling of Two Coils on the Iron Core with an Air-Gap (공극이 도입된 철심에 코일의 자기결합을 이용한 초전도한류기의 고장전류 제한 및 히스테리시스 특성)

  • In this paper, the fault current limiting and the hysteresys characteristics of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using magnetic coupling of two coils on the iron core with an air-gap were analyzed. The introduction of the air-gap in the SFCL with magnetically coupled two coils can suppress the saturation of the iron-core and, on the other hand, make the limiting impedance of the SFCL decreased, which results from the increase of the exciting current. To analyze the effect of the aig-gap on the fault current limiting characteristics of the SFCL, the hysteresys curves of the iron core comprising the SFCL were derived from the short-circuit experiment and the variation in the voltage-current trace of the SFCL during the fault period was analyzed. Through the comparison with the current limiting characteristics of the SFCL without air-gap, the air-gap could be confirmed to contribute to the suppression of the iron core's saturation through the increase of the SFCL's burden from the short-circuit current.

  • The electro-optical characteristics of the Liquid Crystal on Silicon (hereinafter "LCOS") micro-display on vertically alignment (VA) mode were studied depending on various cell gaps. 5 different cell gaps, such as $1.4{\mu}m,\;1.8{\mu}m,\;2.1{\mu}m,\;2.4{\mu}m$ and $2.8{\mu}m$, were selected. The reflectance-voltage (R-V) characteristics, distributions of reflected light and reflectance were calculated with 3-dimmensional LC code. At the center of cell, the smallest $1.4{\mu}m$ cell gap showed the lowest reflectance and the largest $2.8{\mu}m$ cell gap showed the highest reflectance due to the surface anchoring effect. In case of $2.1{\mu}m$ cell gap, the sum of reflectance overall cell was the highest value. Considering the reflectance and RV curve characteristic, the optimized cell gap was $2.1{\mu}m$.

  • In an EMS (Electromagnetic suspension)-type Maglev (Magnetically-levitated) vehicle, the flexibility of the bogie frame may affect the acceleration of the electromagnet that is input into the control system, which could lead to instability in some cases. For this reason, it is desirable to consider bogie frame flexibility in air gap simulations, for the optimization of bogie structure. The objective of this paper is to develop a flexible multibody dynamic model of 1/2 of an EMS-type Maglev vehicle that is under testing, and to compare the air gap responses obtained from the rigid and the flexible body model. The feedback control system and electromagnet models that are unique to the EMS-type maglev vehicle must be included in the model. With this model, dynamics simulations are carried out to predict the air gap responses from the two models, of the rigid and flexible model, and the air gaps are compared. Such a comparative study could be useful in the prediction of the air gap in the design stage, and in designing an air gap control system.

Effect of Protrusion Electrode of the Electro-Optical Characteristics of AC PDP with Long Electrode Gap (Long 전극갭을 가지는 AC PDP의 전기광학적 특성에 미치는 돌기전극의 영향)

  • In the current PDP technology, one of the most important issues in AC PDP is improvement of luminance and luminous efficacy. To improve luminance and luminous efficacy, new cell structure of PDP containing long discharge path is necessary. However, it causes an increment of firing voltage. In order to decrease firing voltage of AC PDP having long discharge gap, the protrusion electrode is proposed. To drop the firing voltage, the protrusion electrode is inserted into the forward area of the main discharge gap. This paper presents measurements of detailed optical and electrical characteristics of AC PDP with protrusion electrodes. The experimental results show that the proposed structure with gap 80um has lower firing voltage to 27V than that of the conventional long gap structure. Moreover, the ICCD(Intensified Charge Coupled Device) images of the proposed structure show quick discharge generation by 0.07usec and longer continuation by 0.05usec than that of the conventional long gap structure. Therefore, the proposed protrusion electrodes have higher luminance by 12.5% than that of the conventional structure, as having no decrement of Luminous efficacy.

Components Constituting the Audit Expectation Gap: The Vietnamese Case

  • The present study seeks to investigate the degree of awareness that constitutes the audit gap expectations (AEG) to determine which audit responsibilities can be narrowed or even eliminated. The author had surveyed a sample comprising four groups including auditors, auditees, the financial community, and other interest groups. In this survey, 1400 questionnaires were sent to the respondents, and the total number of responses was 454. The collected data was processed using statistical software SPSS, version 22. The Chi-Square test was used to analyze the effect of professional differences on AEG. The results of this study indicate that AEG cannot be eliminated due to the occupational impact of each survey group (about 46%), but it can be narrowed down to 54%, including a reduction of 11% in the knowledge gap (lack of public knowledge), 13% in the reasonable expectations gap (unqualified audit quality), 30% in the deficient standards gap (limited auditing standards). These results could be attained by improving training, communicating, and adding more responsibilities. This is the first study that provides another method of measuring the contribution of the knowledge gap through professional differences and professional gaps that make up each of the AEG's components.

Effects of Root Gap on Residual Stresses and Deformation in the Multi-Pass Weld of Thick Plates for Steel Bridge (교량용 후판 다층용접시 잔류응력과 변형에 미치는 루트간격의 영향)

  • The effects of root gap on welding residual stress and deformation are dealt with the multi-pass weldment with three kinds(0, 6, 30mm) of root gap by F.E.M common code, and then compared with experiment data. In this analysis, an 100% ramp heat input model was used to avoid numerical convergence problem due to an instantaneous increase in temperature near the fusion zone, and the effect of a moving arc in a two dimensional plane was also included. During the analysis, a small time increment was applied in a period with instantaneous temperature fluctuation while a large time increment was used in the rest period. The residual stress is distributed as symmetric types and maximum value is also equivalent when the weldment with 0mm and 6mm root gap is welded. In the case of 30mm root gap welding, the distribution of the residual stress extends over a wide range as asymmetric types due to the built-up weld, and most of the residual stress is biased in the side of a built-up weld part. In case of 0mm gap welding and 6mm gap welding, a little angular distortion occurs, but the level of deformation is small. When the weldment with 30mm root gap is welded, the angular deformation of the asymmetric types, however, occurs larger than the other specimens. The experimental and the analytic results show good coincidence and indicate that the welding residual stress and deformation distribution of 30 mm root gap specimen may be asymmetric and the amplitude is larger than those of root gap specimen under standard.

  • In this paper, an experimental study on the aerodynamic characteristics of a variable span wing flying inside a channel guideway is accomplished using wind tunnel testing. A variable span wing with a NACA 0012 airfoil section was fabricated and actuated using a linear servo motor. The aerodynamic effects of 1) wing aspect ratio, 2) ground effect, and 3) the gap between the wingtip and the wing fence were investigated. It was found that both ground effect and wing fence gap increased lift. Also, the wing fence gap does not significantly affect drag. Therefore, it was found that a variable span mechanism can be used as an effective high lift device when flap use is limited.
