Effects of Flow Diretion and Annular Gap Size on the Flow Pattern and Void Distribution in a Vertical Two-Phase Flow(I) - In Case of Upward Flow - (수직이상유에서 유동방향과 동심원관 간극이 유동양식과 보이드분포에 미치는 영향 (I))

  • In the present paper a statistical method using probability density function has been applied to investigate experimentally the flow patterns and fluctuations of time-averaged local void fraction in air-water two-phase mixtures which flow vertically upwards in concentric annuli. This study was carried out using three vertical concentric annuli. The annular test section consists of a lucite outer tube whose inside diameter is 38mm and a stainless steel inner rod. The rod diameter is either 12mm, 16mm or 20mm. The two-phase flow patterns observed in the experiment were bubbly, slug, annular and each transition patterns. It was first demonstrated that the variance, coefficients of skewness and kurtosis calculated from probability density function on time-averaged local void fraction can be used to identify the flow patterns in the annular passage, and the fluctuation of time-averaged local void fraction varies with the radial position in annular gap and the flow pattern.

  • The multi-class traffic assignment problem is the most typical one of the multi-solution traffic assignment problems and, recently formulation of the models and the solution algorithm have been received a great deal of attention. The useful solution algorithm, however, has not been proposed while formulation of the multi-class traffic assignment could be performed by adopting the variational inequality problem or the fixed point problem. In this research, we developed a hybrid solution algorithm which combines GA algorithm, diagonal algorithm and clustering algorithm for the multi-class traffic assignment formulated as a variational inequality Problem. GA algorithm and clustering algorithm are introduced for the wide area and small cost. We also performed an experiment with toy network(2 link) and tested the characteristics of the suggested algorithm.

  • This paper presents the pure capacitive lumped element equivalent circuits for several coplanar waveguide(CPW) discontinuities such as an open-end, an open-end with connected ground planes, a gap and an open-end CPW stub and gives their capacitive element values as a function of physical dimensions of the discontinuity and the frequency for a specific substrate. The capacitive element values are determined from the scattering parameters which are obtained using the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method. For an open-end, an open-end with connected ground planes and a gap, the numerical results of the FDTD are compared with the quasi-static results which are calculated using the three- dimensional finite difference method(3D-FDM).

  • The current rod internal pressure criterion permits fuel rods to operate with internal pressures in excess of system pressure only if internal overpressure does not cause the diametral gap enlargement. In this study, the generic allowable internal gas pressure not violating this criterion is estimated as a function of rod power. The results show that the generic allowable internal gas pressure decreases linearly with the increase of rod power. Application of the generic allowable internal gas pressure for the rod internal pressure design criterion will result in the simplication of the current design procedure for checking the diametral gap enlargement caused by internal overpressure because according to the current design procedure the cladding creepout rate should be compared with the fuel swelling rate at each axial node at each time step whenever internal pressure exceeds the system pressure.

Optical characterization of doped ZnO thin films

  • ZnO 박막과 Al이 도핑된 ZnO 다결정질 박막을 rf magnetron sputtering 방법을 이용하여 Si(100) 기판과 코닝글라스 기판에 증착하여 박막의 광학적 특성을 Spectro-scopic Ellipsometry (SE, Woollam사)와 UV-VIR-NIR Sphectrophotometry (SP, Varian사)를 사용하여 분석하였다. SE 측정은 입사각도 55도에서 75도까지 5도 간격으로 파장범위 250 - 1700 nm 에서 3 nm 간격으로 측정하였으며, SP 측정은 수직입사로 250-3000 nm 파장범위에서 1 nm 간격으로 투과도와 반사도를 측정하였다. 측정된 데이터들은 Lorentz Oscillator 모델과 Drude free electron 모델이 결합된 분산관계식을 사용하여 전산 맞춤을 하여 분석하였다. ZnO 박막의 optical band gap energy 는 3.3 eV로 측정되었으며, Al 도핑에 따른 자유전하농도가 증가에 의하여 Burstein-Moss 효과에 따르는 optical band gap energy의 증가 거동을 보였다. 또한 자유전하농도 증가에 따라 band edge 부근에서 나타나는 excitonic transition 에 기인하는 유전함수 피크의 broadening이 관찰되었으며, high frequency dielectric constant는 자유 전하농도에 관계없이 3.689${\pm}$0.05 eV 의 값을 가졌다. Drude free electron 모델을 사용하여 plasma frequency를 구하고 이로부터 얻어진 optical mobility 와 Hall mobility를 비교하여 ZnO계 다결정질 박막에서의 결정립계가 이동도에 미치는 영향을 고찰하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the impedance characteristic of the strip type waveguide mount backed by the dielectric substrate using mode the matching and induced EMF method. The part of the waveguide containing the dielectric substrate is modeled as waveguide partially filled with the dielectric, and a hybrid mode analysis has been conducted for the structure. The electromagnetic scattering problem by the dielectric substrate is solved by the mode matching method using the calculated modal function. The input impedance seen at the mount gap is calculated by the induced EMF method using the calculated results. the calculated results thus obtained has been verified through comparison with the results by other numerical methods. The effect of some structure parameters such as the width of the substrate and the gap size on the mount impedance is investigated.

  • The DC characteristics of GaAs Gunn diode are investigated as a preliminary study on the planar grade gap injector GaAs Gunn diode which is the transferred electron device with high output power and dc-rf conversion efficiency. The Gunn devices we fabricated were confirmed to have the DC characteristics of negative differential resistance(NDR). We discussed the nature of the NDR effect, including the electron intervalley transfer; the NDR effect was examined for six different cathode radii.

  • $Zn_4SnSe_6$ and $Zn_4SnSe_6:Co^{2+}$ single crystals were grown by the chemical transport reaction(CTR) method. They were crystallized in the monoclinic structure. These temperature dependence of the optical energy gap were closely investigated over the temperature range 10[K]~300[K]. The direct energy gaps of $Zn_4SnSe_6$ and $Zn_4SnSe_6$:$Co^{2+}$ single crystals were given by 2.146[eV] and 2.042[eV] at 300[K]. The temperature dependence of the optical energy gap is well presented by the Varshni equation.

  • Using a panel data of Korea for $1979{\sim}2002$, this study investigates the determinants of the service sector employment share in Korea. In order to analyze the impact of macroeconomic factors on the service sector's employment share we estimate a simple panel model which is in line with Baumol's model. The panel GMM estimation results show that: 1) The increase in the share of service-related jobs in total employment tends to rise with GDP per capita, which confirms demand-bias hypothesis proposed by Clark. 2) We find that a crucial role in this process has been played by the productivity gap. As Baumol's hypothesis or Baumolis disease, the expansion of the employment share in services relative to industry is the direct consequence of services' lower productivity performances.

Calibration of a Network Link Travel Cost Function with the Harmony Search Algorithm (화음탐색법을 이용한 교통망 링크 통행비용함수 정산기법 개발)

  • Some previous studies adopted a method statistically based on the observed traffic volumes and travel times to estimate the parameters. Others tried to find an optimal set of parameters to minimize the gap between the observed and estimated traffic volumes using, for instance, a combined optimization model with a traffic assignment model. The latter is frequently used in a large-scale network that has a capability to find a set of optimal parameter values, but its appropriateness has never been demonstrated. Thus, we developed a methodology to estimate a set of parameter values of BPR(Bureau of Public Road) function using Harmony Search (HS) method. HS was developed in early 2000, and is a global search method proven to be superior to other global search methods (e.g. Genetic Algorithm or Tabu search). However, it has rarely been adopted in transportation research arena yet. The HS based transportation network calibration algorithm developed in this study is tested using a grid network, and its outcomes are compared to those from incremental method (Incre) and Golden Section (GS) method. It is found that the HS algorithm outperforms Incre and GS for copying the given observed link traffic counts, and it is also pointed out that the popular optimal network calibration techniques based on an objective function of traffic volume replication are lacking the capability to find appropriate free flow travel speed and ${\alpha}$ value.
