The classification of extreme climate events in the Republic of Korea (우리나라 극한기후사상의 기후지역구분)

  • This study aims to classify climate zones for extreme climate indices over the Republic of Korea. First, frequencies and magitudes of extreme high temperature, spatial distributions for extreme low temperature, and extreme precipitation are analysed. Frequencies of summer days in inland region show more than coastal region. In frequencies of frost days, the characteristics of altitude and longitude are appeared. Heavy precipitation days show many frequencies in the southern coastal region and Jeju island, but little in Gyeongsangbuk-do region. The classification of climate zone for extreme climate indices by principal component analysis and cluster analysis is conducted for the first half, second half of study period, and climatology period for 1981-2010. Summer days are classified according to latitude. In case of frost days, the eastern and the southern coastal region and Jeju island are classified as same region. Heavy precipitation days are classified according to longitude in south region of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do. This study will help to prepare adaptation and mitigation system for climate change in wide range of fields.

Regional Comparative Analysis of the Economically Active Population Ratio by Sex (남녀별 경제활동참가율의 지역별 비교분석)

  • It is important for regional comparative analysis about economically active population ratio by sex and total economically active population ratio to a policy data of central and local government. Through the result of comparative analysis, Central and local government can use policies distinctively according to the region and keep the efficiency of detail policy application. This paper shows regional comparative analysis about economically active population ratio by sex for the Seoul metropolitan region, Gangwon region, Chungcheong region, Youngnam region, Honam region using the economically active population survey data in 16 cities and provinces. We used the survey of economically active population for 13 years from 2000 to 2012, we calculated total economically active population ratio and economically active population ratio by sex about the 5 regions. And we analyzed the relative ratio between economically active population ratio of male and female by each region, we also analyzed the results of regional comparative analysis by sex.

  • This expressway passing the address region that is sightseeing of our country must consider in what do a convenience sincerity chase and a cultural side view. Characteristics of a Wind Map over the Korean Peninsula Based on Mesoscale Model WRF (중규모 모델 WRF로부터 모의된 한반도 풍력-기상자원 특성)

  • This study uses mesoscale model WRF to investigate characteristics of wind fields in South Korea, a region with a complex terrain. Hourly wind fields were simulated for one year representing mean characteristics of an 11-year period from year 1998 to year 2008. The simulations were performed on a nested grid from 27 km down to 1 km horizontal resolution. Seasonal variation of wind speed indicates that wind is strongest during the spring and winter seasons. Spatial distribution of mean wind speed shows wind energy potential at its peak in mountainous region of Gangwon-do, the east coast, and Jeju Island. Wind speed peaks at night in mountainous and eastern coastal regions, and in the afternoon inland and in the southwestern coastal region. The simulated wind map was verified with four upper-air sounding observations. Wind speed was shown to have a more pronounced overestimation tendency relative to observation in the winter rather than summer. The results of this wind mapping study help identify locations with the highest wind energy potential in South Korea.

  • The Misiryeong East-West road opened in July 2006, after the opening of the Expressway between Seoul and Yangyang in June 2017, has led to a recession caused by a decrease in the number of visitors to nearby region, leading to the emergence of economic crisis in the surrounding region. Against this background, in order to revitalize the Healing Road in Misiryeong, we study to find a way to revitalize the region by creating a landmark in Ulsanbawi Rock. In order to create a landmark of Ulsanbawi Rock, an observation cafe, exhibition facilities, and convenience facilities were built, and a monorail was used to view Ulsanbawi Rock, and a healing plaza, resting area, and outdoor performance hall were installed to promote the local economy.

Production and Innovation Networks of Services in the Long-live Area of Gangwon.Jeju - In Comparison with Honam Region - (강원.제주 장수지역에 있어 서비스기능의 생산연계와 혁신네트워크 -호남 장수지역과의 비교-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze production and innovation networks of services in the long-live area of Gangwon and Jeju Provinces and to suggest a policy direction for regional development of rural areas where have been neglected in the knowledge-based information society. Four counties in the Honam Region, the long-live belt of Korea and two cities (Jeonju, Gwangju) are surveyed for the purpose of comparison with the Gangwon and Jeju areas. Production and innovation networks of research and supporting activities and tourist services are analyzed based on intensive interview surveys of the regions. The result of the analysis suggests that the innovation networks among the economic actors have considerable impacts on the innovation processes of the service activities and the service functions in the rural area are somewhat developed with local industry after the practice of local autonomy. The processes of innovation networks are progressed differently by the hierarchy of the regions as well as by the function of services such as research and supporting activities and tourist services. The direction of the rural development in the knowledge-based information society seems to be intensifying the networks among the innovative actors and developing virtual innovation networks for the development of rural innovation systems.

Appropriateness Evaluation of Cultivation of Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Steud. in the Region of Southern Gangwon Province, South Korea (강원남부지역의 지황 재배 적정성 평가)

  • Rehmannia glutinosa is a perennial herb belonging to family Scrophulariaceae. This study was conducted to evaluate the appropriateness cultivation of R. glutinosa in Southern Gangwon Province. The seed rhizomes of R. glutinosa 'Jihwang 1' were planted in the early May and harvested in the early November. Agronomic characteristics and catalpol content was evaluated in comparison with Eumseong area. As a results, aerial parts of Pyeongchang area in leaf length and leaf width were better than other cultivation area but the leaf number per plant was statistically the same. And underground parts of Eumseong area in rhizome yield and number of rhizome were better than other cultivation area. Conversely, rhizome diameter of Pyeongchang and Jeongseon area were thicker than rhizome diameter of Eumseong area. The fresh rhizome yield of Eumseong, Jeongseon and Pyeongchang area were 1,848, 1,571, and 1485 kg/10a, respectively, higher than the domestic average production of 805 kg/10a. And, catalpol content of Pyeongchang, Jeongseon and Eumseong area were 1.93, 1.62 and 1.99%, respectively. Taken together, R. glutinosa cultivation in the region of southern Gangwon province is considered to be possible, but further evaluation of the economic aspect is needed.

Analysis of Coastline Changes in Yeongdong Region Using Aerial Photos and CORONA Satellite Images (항공사진과 CORONA 위성영상을 이용한 영동지역 해안선 변화 분석)

  • In the Yeongdong region of Gangwon-do, coastal areas are important resources in terms of cultural, social and economic aspects. However, the coast of Gangwon-do is experiencing severe erosion, and it is concerned that its adverse effects will gradually increase. In this study, coastline changes of Yangyang and Gangneung in Gangwon-do were tracked and analyzed over a long period of time. In order to build time series image data, aerial photos from the 1940s to the present were mainly used, and data from CORONA satellite, which operated from the 1960s to the early 1970s, were collected and used together. Using 51cm resolution ortho image and 2m resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM) as reference, ground control points were selected to perform geometric correction on the aerial photos and CORONA images. Subsequently, Canny edge detector applied to these images to extract the coastlines. As a result of analyzing the extracted and vectorized coastlines by overlaying them in chronological order, erosion and deposition occurring around the artificial structures and on the nearby beaches were observed. In this study, the effect of seasonal variation, tide, and various coastal management including the beach filling were not considered. Because coastal erosion is greatly affected by geographic factors, each local government must find its own solution. Continuous research and local data accumulation are required.

Uncertainty Assessment of Emission Factors for Pinus densiflora using Monte Carlo Simulation Technique (몬테 카를로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 소나무 탄소배출계수의 불확도 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to calculate uncertainty of emission factor collected data and to evaluate the applicability of Monte Carlo simulation technique. To estimate the distribution of emission factors (Such as Basic wood density, Biomass expansion factor, and Root-to-shoot ratio), four probability density functions (Normal, Lognormal, Gamma, and Weibull) were used. The two sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and cumulative density figure were used to compare the optimal probability density function. It was observed that the basic wood density showed the gamma distribution, the biomass expansion factor results the log-normal distribution, and root-shoot ratio showd the normal distribution for Pinus densiflora in the Gangwon region; the basic wood density was the normal distribution, the biomass expansion factor was the gamma distribution, and root-shoot ratio was the gamma distribution for Pinus densiflora in the central region, respectively. The uncertainty assessment of emission factor were upper 62.1%, lower -52.6% for Pinus densiflora in the Gangwon region and upper 43.9%, lower -34.5% for Pinus densiflora in the central region, respectively.

A Analytical Study on the Change of Regional Employment Rate in the Service Industry (서비스산업에서의 지역별 고용률의 변화에 대한 분석 연구)

  • For recent years, there have been considerable changes in the employment rate of the service industry and its relative ratio. These changes vary depending on the region whether it is Seoul metropolitan region or not. According to main results of this article, the average of employment rate in the service industry has been highest in the Seoul metropolitan region. And the changes by period of the employment-rate in the service industry have increased continuously for all the time in the Seoul metropolitan region whereas they have varied in other regions. Also the relative ratio of employment rate in the service industry to total employment rate has been more higher in Seoul metropolitan region and Gangwon region than other regions, and also the changes by period of the relative ratio have more increased in these two regions than other regions. Finally, comparing metropolitan city regions with do regions for the average of employment rate in the service industry or the relative ratio of it, they have more higher in metropolitan city regions than do regions, whereas the changes by period of them have varied with each other regions.
