Metal stain on monolithic zirconia restoration: A case report

  • In restorative treatment using fixed dental prostheses, dentists should select appropriate restoration material among various types of dental materials. The strength, marginal fit, esthetics, wear resistance, biocompatibility, and cost are important factors in the choice of restoration materials. The present case showed a surface stain on a monolithic zirconia restoration that was due to wear between the monolithic zirconia restoration and the base metal alloy restoration. This phenomenon was confirmed by surface roughness measurement and electron probe micro-analysis.

First Report of Leaf Spot of Datura metel Caused by Alternaria tenuissima in Korea

  • In June 2013, we collected leaf spot disease samples of Datura metel from Gangneung, Gangwon Province, Korea. The symptoms observed were small circular to oval dark brown spots with irregular in shape or remained circular with concentric rings. We isolated the pathogen from infected leaves and cultured the fungus on potato dextrose agar. We examined the fungus morphologically and confirmed its pathogenicity according to Koch's postulates. The results of morphological examinations, pathogenicity tests, and the rDNA sequences of the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS1 and ITS4), glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G3PDH) and the RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2) gene sequence revealed that the causal agent was Alternaria tenuissima. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of leaf spot of D. metel caused by A. tenuissima in Korea as well as worldwide.

First Report of Postharvest Gray Mold Rot on Carrot Caused by Botrytis cinerea in Korea

  • In February 2014, gray mold rotting symptoms were observed in carrots in cold storage at Gangneung, Gangwon province, Korea. The typical symptom of gray mold rot showed abundant blackish gray mycelia and conidia was observed on the infected root. The pathogen was isolated from infected root and cultured on PDA for further fungal morphological observation and confirming its pathogenicity according to Koch's postulates. Results of morphological data, pathogenicity test and rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS 1 and 4) sequence showed that the postharvest gray mold rot of carrot was caused by Botyrtis cinerea. This is the first report of postharvest gray mold rot on carrot in Korea.

Isolation of Prenylated Isoflavonoids from Cudrania tricuspidata Fruits that Inhibit A2E Photooxidation

  • High-performance liquid chromatography coupled to an online $ABTS^+$-based assay (online HPLC-$ABTS^+$) system was used to determine the principal antioxidants in Cudrania tricuspidata fruits. Six prenylated isoflavonoids (1 - 6) were isolated from C. tricuspidata fruits according to the online HPLC-$ABTS^+$ system. The structures of isolated compounds, alpiniumisoflavone (1), 6,8-diprenylorobol (2), 6,8-diprenylgenistein (3), pomiferin (4), 4'-methylalpiniumisoflavone (5), and osajin (6) were identified by their retention time, UV spectra, ESI-MS, and NMR data. Among these compounds, 6,8-diprenylorobol (2) and pomiferin (4) reduced A2E photooxidation in a dose dependent manner.

Analytical Study of the Vibration Attenuation with respect to Trackbed Systems

  • The vibration-attenuation was quantitatively compared by 3-Dimensional finite element analysis using ABAQUS, with respect to the change of the type of trackbed systems. Most common trackbed materials, including ballast and concrete were applied to the track structure, and the train-speed was set as 300km/h as Korea Train eXpress (KTX). The result of current study revealed that the ballast showed the most effective material for the vibration attenuation.

  • 본 프로그램은 기존 PC 원격제어 프로그램들이 갖고 있는 기능의 문제점, 비효율성, 사용의 불편함, 보안 위험 등의 결함을 보완하여 보다 편리하고 효율적이며 실용적인 작업환경을 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 따라서 기존 프로그램들의 기능과 특징을 분석하고 결함을 파악하여 해결방안을 제시하고 이를 고려한 프로그램을 설계하여 개발함으로써 누구나 PC 원격제어라는 편리함과 효율적인 작업환경이라는 기대효과를 예상해 보았다.

  • 현재 사용되고 있는 화재 통제 시스템은 화재 발생 시 단순한 열감지 센서를 통해 화재를 감지하고 연결된 경종에 신호를 보내 소리를 내어 알리는 방식을 사용하고 있다. 이러한 기계식 시스템은 잦은 고장과 낮은 정확도로 인한 신뢰도 문제뿐만 아니라 화재 발생 시 대피대상자들을 적절하게 유도하지 못하여 막대한 2차 피해가 발생하는 문제를 안고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IT 기술을 바탕으로 효율적이고 체계적으로 화제 통제를 지원하는 통합 시스템을 구현하였다. 이 시스템은 화재 통제의 핵심인 감지, 알림, 유도 기능의 효과를 극대화하도록 상호 연결되고 통합되어 있다.
