감마선 조사에 의한 농약 성분의 분해 연구 (Study on Decomposition of Several Pesticides by Gamma-Irradiation)

  • The decomposition of 50 pesticides present in an aqueous solution using ${\gamma}-irradiation$ from a $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray source was investigated using laboratory-scale experiment. The rates of decomposition were determined using a gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD), high-performance liquid chromatography-photo diode array detector (HPLC-PDA), and HPLC-fluorescence detector (FLD). When the initial concentration of pesticides was 10 ppm, and the radiation dose was 2, 5, 10, 20, and 30 kGy, respectively, 14 pesticide samples showed high removal rates (>50%) at absorbed doses of more than 10 kGy. With the exception of procymidone, they were all completely removed at a 30 kGy irradiation dose. These results provide fundamental data on the reactivity between gamma-irradiation and pesticides in an aqueous solution. Further, an evaluation of the toxicity of radiolytic intermediate products is required.

  • Kenaf fibers have excellent properties and possess the potential to be outstanding reinforcing fillers in cement. The grafting of poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEGMA) to the kenaf fibers is important in improving the compatibility between the fibers and the cement. PEGMA was grafted onto kenaf fibers using gamma-ray radiation. The radiation dose ranged from 20 to 60 kGy, and the dose rate was $10kGy\;h^{-1}$. The degree of grafting increased with increased radiation doses. FT-IR analysis revealed an increase in PEGMA content after gamma-ray radiation induced grafting, further evincing the attachment of PEGMA to the kenaf fibers. The mechanical properties of the gamma-ray grafted kenaf fiber/cement composites were superior to those of the ungrafted kenaf fiber/cement specimens.

소동물 영상화 및 환경 방사선 검출을 위한 감마카메라 개발 (Development of Gamma Camera System for Small Animal Imaging and Environmental Radiation Detection)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 감마선 검출 시스템을 개발하여 평행구멍형 조준기와 바늘구멍 조준기를 이용하여, 각각 소동물용 감마영상 획득과 환경 방사선 검출 영상을 획득하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 크기가 $50{\times}50mm$ 이며, 6 mm 두께의 CsI(Tl) 섬광체와 $50{\times}50mm$ 크기의 Hamamatsu H8500C 위치민감형 광전자증배관, 저항분배회로, 전치증폭기, 성형증폭기, NIM 모듈 및 아날로그 디지털 변환기로 구성된 감마카메라를 개발하였다. 또한. 바늘구멍 감마카메라와 전하결합소자 카메라를 결합하여 환경모니터링에 적용할 수 있는 장비를 개발하였다. 본 연구 결과는 평행 구멍형 조준기와 바늘구멍 조준기를 이용한 감마카메라를 각각 소동물용 감마영상 획득과 환경방사선 측정에 적용 할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 이 시스템은 소 동물전용 감마카메라와 환경방사선 측정 시스템으로 활용 될 수 있을 것이다.

  • PVA nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles were prepared by two methods. The first method was electrospinning of irradiated solution. The prepared $PVA/AgNO_3$ solution was irradiated by gamma-rays. And then the irradiated solution was electrospun. The second method was irradiation of electrospun nanofibers. Nanofibers prepared by electrospinning of unirradiated $PVA/AgNO_3$ solution. The morphology of the nanofibers was observed with a SEM, TEM. When the irradiated $PVA/AgNO_3$ solution were electrospun, the average size of the Ag nanoparticles was increased, but their number was decreased.

  • In order to predict the lifetime of InP Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT) devices and related circuits in the space radiation environment, a novel model including gamma radiation effects is proposed in this paper. Based on the analysis of radiation-induced device degradation effects including both DC and AC characteristics, a set of empirical expressions describing the device degradation trend are presented and incorporated into the Keysight model. To validate the effective of the proposed model, a series of radiation experiments are performed. The correctness of the novel model is validated by comparing experimental and simulated results before and after radiation.

  • 본 연구는 5가지의 발광성 미생물을 이용하여 유해 방사선으로 알려져 있는 ${\gamma}-rays$가 여러가지 cellular stresses 중, 특히 유전자 손상과 생물막 손상을 유발하였는데, 이들의 손상 정도가 총 방사선량과 상관관계가 있음을 발생하는 bioluminescence 로써 확인하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 선량률의 변화를 통하여 방사선으로 인한 유전자 손상 및 일반적인 독성 효과가 큰 영향을 받는 것을 확인하였는데, 선량률 증가에 따라 이들 손상정도가 증가하는 것으로 보아 선량률이 genetic 및 radioprotecion에 심각한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다.

영상처리기반 감마선원 거리탐지 고속화 및 가시화 연구 (The Visualization and the Fast Detection of Gamma Radiation Source using Stereo Image Processing)

  • 감마선 공간 탐지 장치는 감마선원을 스캔하여 영상화 한 후 스테레오 영상처리기술을 적용하여 탐지선원까지의 거리를 측정한다. 또한 실제 공간의 방사선원에 대한 분포 정보를 제공해 준다. 본 논문에서는 감마선 탐지장치가 3차원 공간상에서 장치로부터 선원을 찾기 위해 스캔하는 탐지 시간을 단축 시킬 수 있도록 감마선 탐지 고속화 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 그리고 감마선 조사 시험장에서 실험을 통해 그 성능을 검증하였다. 탐지시험 결과 고속 탐지를 위한 알고리즘을 적용할 경우 단일선원을 탐지할 경우 좌 우 스테레오 영상 획득 시보다 약 35% 의 탐지 시간을 단축시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 사용자에게 방사선 공간분포 정보를 효율적으로 전달하기 위한 감마선원 분포의 입체 가시화를 구현하여 방사선원에 대한 정보를 제공할 수 있도록 하였다.

PSL과 ESR 분석에 의한 건조수산물의 방사선 조사 여부 판별 특성 연구 (Detection Properties of Irradiated Dried Seafoods Using PSL and ESR)

  • The detection properties of gamma-irradiated (0~10 kGy) dried seaweed, dried shrimp, and seasoned dried filefish were investigated by photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) and electron spin resonance (ESR). PSL could be used as a detection method on irradiated dried seaweed and dried shrimp as they showed photon counts greater than 5,000 counts/60 s (positive) in the irradiated samples with doses above l kGy. However, PSL could not be applied to detect irradiated seasoned dried filefish, because gamma-irradiated sample at 10 kGy even yielded photon counts less than 700 counts/60 s (negative). The ESR spectroscopy for only dried shrimp revealed specific signals derived from free radicals captured in the shell of shrimp. As a result, it is considered that PSL or ESR methods for detection of gamma-irradiated dried shrimp and only PSL can be used to detect gamma-irradiated seaweed. Furthermore, it is considered that hydrocarbon analysis of seasoned dried filefish containing fat by GC/MS and Thermo Luminance (TL) analysis of dried seaweed should be studied for detection of irradiation.

Superiority of micro/nano tungsten carbide reinforced poly-methyl methacrylate composites in shielding gamma radiation

  • This research aimed to develop lead-free polymer composites based on poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and embedded with tungsten carbide (WC) micro and nanoparticles for use in radiation protection applications. PMMA was filled with 20 %, 40 %, and 60 % by weight of WC micro- and nanoparticles. The shielding features of the proposed polymer mixtures were evaluated at different radioactive sources of different energies using the HPGe detector. The results revealed that the investigated composites containing micro and nano-structured WC particles showed superior radiation shielding at 81 keV due to the K-edge of the W element occurring at 69.5 keV. The findings also demonstrated that composites loaded with WC nanoparticles were more effective in shielding gamma radiation than those loaded with WC microparticles, even at the same filler wt.%. Furthermore, the sample containing 60 % by weight of nano-WC, coded as P-60nWC, had superior shielding performance than other polymer-based composites reported in the literature. Thus, the proposed nano-WC/PMMA composites can be effectively employed in radiation facilities as alternative environmentally and lead-free radiation shielding materials to protect people and the environment from the harmful risks of gamma radiation.

감마선 조사에 의한 목재성질 변화에 관한 연구 (Study of the Changes in Wood Properties by Gamma Irradiation)

  • 본 연구는 감마선 조사가 소나무(Pinus densiflrora), 느티나무(Zelkovas serrenata), 오동나무(Paulownia tomentosa)의 세포벽 열화, 셀룰로오스 결정화도, 휨 강도에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위해 수행되었다. 각 목재 시편들을 100 kGy 선량의 감마선 조사 후 주사전자현미경(scanning electron microscope; SEM) 관찰 결과, 목재 세포벽 열화는 관찰되지 않았으며 휨 강도 역시 현저한 변화가 나타나지 않았다. 감마선 조사에 의한 셀룰로오스 결정화도 역시 유의한 변화가 관찰되지 않았다. 이러한 감마선에 대한 목재의 높은 안전성은 감마선 조사 기술을 재질손상 없이 목재를 가해 중인 균류와 충류 구제를 위해 적용할 수 있음을 의미한다.
