Preparation of Ag, Pd, and Pt50-Ru50 colloids prepared by γ-irradiation and electron beam and electrochemical immobilization on gold surface

  • PVP-protected Ag, Pd and $Pt_{50}-Ru_{50}$ colloids were prepared independently by using ${\gamma}$-irradiation and electron beam (EB) at ambient temperature. UV-visible spectra of these colloids show the characteristic bands of surface resonance and give evidence for the formation of nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) experiments were used to know the morphology of nanoparticles prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation and EB. The size of Ag, Pd, and $Pt_{50}-Ru_{50}$ nanoparticles prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation was ca. 13, 2-3, 15 nm, respectively. While, the size of Ag, Pd, and $Pt_{50}-Ru_{50}$ nanoparticles prepared by EB was ca. 10, 6, and 1-3 nm, respectively. Cyclic voltamograms (CV) were recorded for the Au electrodes immobilized with these nanoparticles. CVs indicated the modifications in the surface as a result of immobilization.

방사성폐기물드럼 핵종분석에서 감마선 감쇠보정 방법들의 비교 평가 (Comparison of the Correction Methods for Gamma Ray Attenuation in the Radioactive Waste Drum Assay)

  • 실제 드럼 내에 존재하는 핵종으로부터 방출되는 감마선을 외부에서 측정하여 그로부터 드럼 내 핵종의 양을 정확하게 분석하기 위해서는 먼저 적절한 교정표준의 선택과 드럼 내 매질의 밀도와 핵종의 분포에 대한 감마선 감쇠보정이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 드림 내 핵종의 분석을 위하여 밀도가 다른 두 개의 모델드럼을 이용하였으며 전송선원으로써는 $^{152}Eu$(10 mCi), 표준선원으로는 혼합선원($^{133}Ba,\;^{137}Cs,\;^{60}Co$)을 이용하였다. 그리고 드럼과 검출기 사이의 거리를 달리하면서 모델드럼 내의 표준선원으로부터 나오는 감마선을 계측하여, 감쇠보정이 되지 않은 이 측정값에 3 종류의 감마선 감쇠보정을 각각 수행하였다. 그 결과 밀도가 낮은 드럼에서의 오차는 10 % 이하이었고, 밀도가 높은 드럼에서의 오차는 25 % 이하이었다. 또한 드럼과 검출기사이의 거리가 근거리(70 cm, 드림구획 : 10 segments)일 때, 오차는 원거리(90 cm, 드럼구획 : 8 segments)에서의 오차보다는 낮았는데 이는 상대적으로 1 segment에 대한 부피차이에 기인한 밀도 측정오차가 낮고 감마선의 산란이 낮았기 때문이다.

고창 무장현 관아와 읍성 출토 비격진천뢰의 제작기법과 보존처리 (Manufacturing Technique and Conservation of Bigyeokjincheolloe Bomb Shells Excavated from the Ancient Local Government Office and Fortress of Mujang-hyeon, Gochang)

  • 본 연구는 2018년 고창 무장현 관아와 읍성에서 발굴된 비격진천뢰 11점의 보존처리 과정과, 컴퓨터단층촬영(CT)과 감마선(γ-ray)투과조사·금속 조직 분석을 통한 제작기법을 수록하였다. 보존처리는 2019년 국립진주박물관에서 진행한 특별전 '비격진천뢰'(07.16.~08.25.) 전시를 위한 1차 보존처리 과정인 이물질제거와 강화처리를 진행 하였고, 이 과정에서 비격진천뢰 뚜껑(개철, 蓋鐵)을 최초로 확인 할 수 있었다. 제작기법의 경우 11점의 CT와 γ-ray촬영 결과 본체 내부에 많은 기공과 측면에 형틀받침쇠(chaplet, 型持)가 사용되었음을 확인하였으며, 기벽의 두께는 위아래에 비해 측면이 비교적 얇게 설계되었다. 또한 아래 부분 중앙에 쇳물주입구 흔적이 관찰되어 본체를 뒤집은 상태에서 쇳물이 주입되었음을 확인하였다. 금속 조직 분석은 본체 2점과 뚜껑 1점의 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 본체는 시멘타이트(cementite)조직과 펄라이트(pearlite)조직이 관찰되어 주조로 만들어졌고, 뚜껑은 페라이트(ferrite) 조직에 일부 펄라이트가 끼어있으며 비금속 개재물이 일직선으로 관찰되어 단조로 만들었다는 것을 확인하였다.

Approach for Microwave Frequency Measurement Based on a Single Photonic Chip Combined with a Phase Modulator and Microring Resonator

  • A new approach for identification of a microwave frequency using an integrated optical waveguide chip, combined with a phase modulator (PM) and two microring resonators (MRRs), is proposed, theoretically deduced, and verified. By wavelength tuning to set the PM under the condition of a double side band (DSB), the measurement range can be started from the dc component, and the measurement range and response slope can be adjusted by designing the radius and transmission coefficient of the MRR. Simulations reveal that the amplitude comparison function (ACF) has a monotonic relationship from dc to 32.5 GHz, with a response slope of 5.15 dB under conditions of DSB modulation, when the radius values, transmission coefficients, and the loss factors are designed respectively as $R_1=400{\mu}m$, $R_2=600{\mu}m$, $t_1=t_2=0.63$, and ${\gamma}_1={\gamma}_2=0.66$. Theoretical calculations and simulation results both indicate that this new approach has the potential to be used for measuring microwave frequencies, with the advantages of compact structure and superior reconfigurability.

Implementation of waste silicate glass into composition of ordinary cement for radiation shielding applications

  • The aim of this work is to study the radiation shielding properties of cement samples with waste glass incortated into its composition. The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) of the samples were experimentally determined to evaluate their radiation shielding ability. The experimental coefficient was evaluated using NaI detector for gamma energies between 59.53 keV and 1408.01 keV using different radioactive point sources Am-241, Eu-152, Co-60, and Cs-137, and the gamma transmission parameters half-value layer, mean free path, and transmission factor were calculated. The theoretical coefficient of the composites was determined using Geant4 and XCOM software. The results were also compared against Geant4 and XCOM simulations by calculating the relative deviation between the values to determine the accuracy of the results. In addition the mechanical properties (including Compressive and porosity) as well as the thermogravimetric analysis were tested for the present samples. Overall, it was concluded that the cement sample with 50% waste glass has the greatest shielding potential for radiation shielding applications and is a useful way to reuse waste glass.

Coordinated Direct and Relayed Transmission based on NOMA and Backscattering

  • We propose a spectral-efficient coordinated direct and relayed transmission (CDRT) scheme for a relay-assisted downlink system with two users. The proposed scheme is based on backscatter communication (BC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. With the proposed BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, both users can receive one packet within one time slot. In contrast, in existing NOMA-CDRT schemes, the far user is only able to receive one packet in two time slots due to the half-duplex operation of the relay. We investigate the outage of the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, and derive the outage probability expressions in closed-form based on Gamma distribution approximation and Gaussian approximation. Numerical results show that the analytical results are accurate and the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme outperforms the conventional NOMA-CDRT significantly.

DPCM 음성 부호화기의 부정합현상에 관한 연구 (On the Mismatch Phenomena in DPCM Coding of Speech)

  • This paper describes various mismatch phenomena in differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) coding, such as the mismatch effects of probability density functin(pdf), signal variance, and correlation. At a high transmission rate(i.e., above 32 kbits/s), the performance of DPCM can be improved by matching the pdf shape between the input signal and the quantizer. However, the same gain cannot be obtained at a lower transmission rate. Also, it is shown that the gamma quantizer is realtively robust to the variation of pdf shaper and signal variance. Moreover, as the transmission rate increases, the performance of DPCM for the input signal with large variance is worse than that of DPCM for the signal with small variance due to the increase of overload noise. According to our simuladiton results, the mismatch effects of pdf shape and variance appear to yield more degradatin than that of correlation in a DPCM system.

청색 Diode 개발을 위한 ZnSe 박막성장과 특성에 관한 연구 (Growth and Characterization of ZnSe Thin Film for Blue Diode)

  • The ZnSe sample grown by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method were annealed in Ar gas at 450$^{\circ}C$ Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction pattern, it was found to have zinc blend structure whose lattice parameter a$\_$o/ was 5.6687 ${\AA}$. From Hall effect, the mobility was likely to be decreased by impurity scattering at temperature range from 10 K to 150 K and by lattice scattering at temperature range from 150 K to 29 3K. The band gap given by the transmission edge changed from 2.7005 eV at 293 K to 2.8739 eV at 10 K. Comparing photocurrent peak position with transmission edge, we could find that photocurrent peaks due to excition electrons from valence band, $\Gamma$$\_$8/ and $\Gamma$$\_$7/ to conduction band $\Gamma$$\_$6/ were observed at photocurrent spectrum. From the photocurrent spectra by illumination of polarized light on the ZnSe thin film, we have found that values of spin orbit coupling splitting Δso is 0.0981 eV. From the PL spectra at 10 K, the peaks corresponding to free bound excitons and D-A pair and a broad emission band due to SA is identified. The binding energy of the free excitons are determined to be 0.0612 eV and the dissipation energy of the donor -bound exciton and acceptor-bound exciton to be 0.0172 eV, 0.0310 eV, respectively.

Titanium alloys: A closer-look at mechanical, gamma-ray, neutron, and transmission properties of different grade alloys through MCNPcode application

  • Titanium alloys play a vital role in optimizing the effectiveness and security of nuclear reactors, strengthening structural durability, and facilitating the effective handling of nuclear waste. The aim of this study is to investigate the gamma-ray, neutron, and transmission properties of four common titanium alloys through the examination of the deposited energy amount in the liquid sodium coolant material, in relation to the mechanical properties of these alloys. MCNP (version 6.3) is utilized for designing the titanium pipes. Next, the pipes were re-designed considering the elemental mass fractions and densities of the investigated titanium alloys. Grade 26 sample is reported with the highest values of mass attenuation coefficients and the lowest HVL values among those investigated alloys. Grade 26 is reported to have the lowest TF value, whereas Grade 12 demonstrated the highest TF value. The highest Effective Removal Cross Section (ΣR, 1/cm) value against fast neutrons is reported for Grade 26. The utilization of Grade 26 sample as pipe material resulted in the lowest deposited energy amount (MeV/g) and subsequent lowest contamination in the coolant material. Out of the alloys that were chosen for analysis, it has been determined that Grade 26 exhibits the highest level of strength. It can be concluded that the Grade 26 alloy exhibits desirable characteristics for applications in nuclear technologies that require superior gamma-ray and neutron absorption properties, as well as exceptional mechanical properties. Nevertheless, it is essential to emphasize the importance for ongoing studies to enhance the existing material properties of Grade 26, with the aim of achieving improved safety and efficacy in nuclear applications.

감마영상과 실사영상의 Fusion (Fusion of Gamma and Realistic Imaging)

  • 현재 우리나라 암발생률을 보면 유방암과 갑상샘암이 매년 빠르게 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 I-131 scan과 전초림프절 검사인 lymphoscintigraphy가 많이 시행되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 검사는 전통적인 핵의학 영상 검사들과 마찬가지로 병리생태를 영상화하는 데에는 탁월하나 해부학적 정보는 많지 않다. 따라서 트랜스미션 스캔을 실시하여 해부학적 위치를 찾는 데 도움을 주는 등 여러 방법을 사용하고 있으나 만족스럽지 못하다. 이에 착안하여 감마실사영상의 fusion으로 좀 더 해부학적 정보가 많은 영상을 구현하고자 한다. 2009년 4월부터 7월까지 본과를 내원하고 SIEMENS사의 Symbia Gamma Camera를 이용하여 lymphoscintigraphy를 시행한 환자와 I-131 추가 검사를 시행한 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 먼저 감마카메라로 촬영한 후 촬영실 천정에 설치한 hyVISION사의 소형카메라(R-2000)로 동일 위치를 촬영하여 감마영상과 소형카메라의 실사영상을 자체개발한 Gamma Ray Tool Fusion 프로그램을 이용하여 fusion하여 일치도를 평가 하였으며, 환자 및 술자의 피폭선량을 평가하였다. 술자와 환자의 피폭선량은 트랜스미션 스캔을 적용하기 위한 플러드 선원의 제작과정과 실제 트랜스미션 스캔이 적용될 때 방사선피폭이 발생되며 술자의 방사선피폭은 평균 14.1743 ${\mu}Sv$이며, 환자의 방사선피폭은 평균 0.9037 ${\mu}Sv$이다. 또한 fusion 영상에서 감마마커와 실사마커가 일치하였고 플러드 선원에 의한 피폭은 없었다. 본원에서 구축한 감마영상과 실사영상의 fusion 프로그램으로 보다 많은 해부학적 정보를 포함하고 있는 영상을 임상의 및 판독의에게 제공할 수 있고, 업무프로세스가 감소되어 편리한 조작이 가능하게 되었다. 또한 플러드 선원에 의한 피폭을 줄일 수 있어서, 다른 핵의학 검사에도 사용이 가능할 것으로 생각되어진다. 하지만 환자의 사생활이 존중되어야 하기 때문에 검사시행 전, 검사진행 과정과 장점 등을 자세하게 설명한 후 환자가 동의할 경우 검사를 실시하여야 할 것이다.
