A case report of Sikgwol treated with Gamiyukgunja-tang (가미육군자탕(加味六君子湯) 투여 후 치료된 식궐(食厥) 환자 치험 1례)

  • The chief symptoms of Sikgwol are confusion, aphasia and quadriparesis. Sikgwol is caused by overeating in instances of deficiency syndrome of the stomach. The symptoms of Sikgwol are similar to those caused by cerebral vascular injury. After medication with Gamiyukgunja-tang and acupunture therapy, the patient symptoms improved rapidly within the first week. Results support the clinical efficacy of Gamiyukgunja-tang for Sikgwol.

One Case of Drug-Induced Liver Injury after Taking Gamiyukgunja-tang (가미육군자탕 투여 후 발생한 급성 약인성 간손상 1례)

  • Recently, acute toxic liver injury has been reported to be the most common cause of acute hepatitis. We witnessed one case of hepatic injury which suggested drug-induced hepatitis by herbal medication (Gamiyukgunja-tang). This patient, diagnosed cerebral infarction, was treated with herbal medication and physical therapy for improvement of right hemiparesis. In the course of treatment, this patient showed elevation of serum transaminase (ALT 129 IU/L, AST 150 IU/L), alkaline phosphatase (ALP 261 IU/L), and total bilirubin (2.0 IU/L), so we supposed toxic hepatitis by herbal medication. Saenggangeonbi-tang was administered for 8 days, ALT, AST, ALP, total bilirubin decreased within normal limits.

Effect of Gamiyukgunja-tang on Secretion and Gene Expression of Airway Mucin (가미육군자탕(加味六君子湯)이 호흡기 뮤신분비 및 뮤신 유전자 발현에 미치는 영향)

  • In the present study, the author intended to investigate whether Gamiyukgunja-tang (Jiaweiliujunzi-tang, GYGT) significantly affect both mucin release from and MUC5AC gene expression in cultured hamster tracheal surface epithelial (HTSE) cells. Confluent HTSE cells were metabolically radiolabeled with 3H-glucosamine for 24 hrs and chased for 30 min in the presence of GYGT to assess the effect on 3H-mucin release. Possible cytotoxicity of the agent was assessed by measuring lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release. Total elution profiles of control spent media and treatment sample through Sepharose CL-4B column were analysed and effect of GYGT on MUC5AC gene expression in cultured HTSE cells were investigated. GYGT did not affect mucin release from cultured HTSE cells. GYGT did not show significant cytotoxicity. GYGT also did not affect the secretion of the other releasable glycoproteins with less molecular weight than mucin. GYGT increased the expression level of MUC5AC gene. We suggest that the effect of GYGT with their components should be further investigated through ongoing research.
