Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) on 57 patients who have suffered from chronic liver disease. Methods : Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) was administered to patients for over 2 months continuously. We checked improvement of clinical symptoms, changes of Hepatitis B markers and lymphocyte count. Results : Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) has significant effect on the improvement of clinical symptoms. And the ratio of seroconversion from HBeAg positive to HBeAg negative was 42.9%. Lymphocyte increased in 83.3% of patients converted to HBeAg negative. Conclusions : It is suggested that Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) has significant effects on the recovery of weakened liver function and immune modulation. This treatment could be recommened as a prescription for Chronic liver disease.

Objectives : This study was to examine the efficacy of GCT on the hepatoprotective effect in the liver function and immune octivity. Methods : The experiment to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of GCT on the liver damage was conducted with D-galactosamine. The experiments to verify the effects of GCT on the immune activity were conducted by carbon clearance assay, plaque-forming cell SRBC assay of IgM, lymphoproliferation assay of T and B cells, and adherence and phagocytosis of mocrophages. Results: In the damage of liver induced by D-galactosamine, GCT carried hepatoprotective effect on AST. In carbon clearance assay GCT showed significant effect on phagocytosis of Kuffer cells. In the plaque-forming cell assay, GCT improved the formation of IgM. In the lymphoproliferation assay, GCT activated the formation of T and B lymphocytes. In macrophages, GCT activated adherence and phagocytosis. Conclusion : Though further study is needed, our findings suggest that GCT could be recommended as hepatoprotector and immune modulator for liver disease.

This study is a clinical report for hepatitic C patient and alcoholic hepatitis patient who were improved by treatment of a herbal viscous extracts(Chunggan plus). We checked up Aspartate-aminotransferase(AST), Alamine-aminotransferase(ALT) and ${\gamma}$-Glutamyl transpeptidase (${\gamma}$-GTP) and compared the level of AST, ALT, ${\gamma}$-GTP after treatment. After medication the level of AST, ALT, ${\gamma}$-GTP was significantly normalized. So we suggested that herbal viscous extracts(Chunggan plus) has effects on hepatitis.
