Erysipelas is a type of cellulitis in skin infection generally caused by group A ${\beta}$-hemolytic streptococci. An erysipelas skin lesion typically has a raised border that is sharply demarcated from normal skin. The underlying skin is painful, intensely red, hardened, swollen, and warm. Objectives: We reviewed three cases of erysipelas patients who hospitalized in Dongshin Univ. Suncheon Oriental medicine hospital from June 2001 to June 2002. Methods : We treated them with Galgunhaegitang(葛根解肌湯) for interior diease of Taeumin(太陰人) and also used acupuncture and cupping therapy. Results and Conclusions ; We had significant effects of Galgunhaegitang(葛根解肌湯) for three cases of erysipelas patients. So if the patient were a Taeumin(太陰人), we can consider using Galgunhaegitang(葛根解肌湯) for erysipelas. We can also use antibiotics properly in case there are high fever or open wounds.

The Yangdokbalban(陽毒發斑) of Taeumin(太陰人) is classed as Gansuyoilliyoilbyung(肝受熱裏熱病). This is a kind of dermatitis caused by Ganyoilpaejo(肝熱肺燥) what was risen from disorder of Simyok(心慾). In the treatment, we should temper the Simyok and recover Hosanjigy(呼散之氣) of Lung by Cheongganjoyoil(淸肝燥熱). In this study, it is experienced that Yangdokbalban of Taeumin patient mistreated with Soyangin, got sick by Korean medical treatment, and also it came to improve the psychosomatic disorder(心身症) generally. The patient was 52 years old, female. She entered our hospital for Yangdokbalban, including serious itching, insomnia, chest discomfort, dyspepsia, pantalgia, and she had neutropenia in the blood test. We classified this as Taeumin-liyoiljung(太陰人 裏熱證) and prescribed Galgunhaegitang(葛根解肌湯) and Chungsimyoinjahabopaewontang(淸心蓮子合補肺元湯) in according to the principle of Cheongganjoyoil. In the result, we had the general improvement of Yangdokbalban and psychosomatic disorder.

Purpose: Atopic dermatitis, which is one the prevalent allergic diseases in toddlers and adolescent population, has not been treated with Sasang Constitutional Medicine due to the limitation of constitution differentiation in children. This study was aimed to examine the effect of treatment for atopic dermatitis with Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Method: Forty-three patients over age 3 who were diagnosed with atopic dermatitis by the criteria of Hanifin and Rajka were participated in this study from August, 2001 thru May, 2002 at the Pohang Oriental Medicine Hospital, Kyungsan University. Result: 1. Soyangin showed the highest proportion of 79% of the sample. 2. The symptom of the disease by patients' constitution according to the degree of affected skin and itching was severe in Soyangin, and mild in Soeumin 3. For treatment 9 kinds of prescription regimen were given; Yangkyuksanhwatang was mostly used for Soyangin followed by Hyungbangsabaksan. Hayngsayangwetang and Galgunhaegitang were prescribed for Soeumin and Taeumin, respectively. 4. The treatment effect was found in 84% (n=36) of the patients markedly. Six out of seven who showed no progress were Soyangin. Conclusion: The treatment based on the constitution differentiation and prescription of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine was effective for the symptom alleviation in a short term period in atopic dermatitis. Further clinical study is needed to prove the effect of Sasang Constitutional Medicine in a larger sample and various diseases.
