Fingerprint Image Enhancement Algorithm Based on Gabor Filter Using Multiresolution Image Information (다중해상도 영상정보를 이용한 가보필터 기반 지문영상 개선)

  • A new fingerprint image enhancement algorithm using multiresolution information and Gabor filter is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm performs selection of the region in image according to inclusion of singular points and then performs enhancement using Gabor filtering of the region adjusted in its size. Gabor filter using representative direction in the same block is used in the region that the direction of ridge is not changed much, while Gabor filter using pixel based direction is used in the region that the direction of ridge is changed much. This method can reduce processing time for enhancement using Gabor filter and preserve the merit of Gabor filter.

  • 본 논문에서는 영상의 텍스쳐 정보를 이용하여 일반 영상에 대한 내용기반 영상 검색을 수행할 수 있는 알고리듬을 제안한다. Gabor 웨이브렛 변환을 이용하여 Gabor 필터 뱅크 내의 각 필터에 의해 필터링된 대역의 평균과 표준편차를 영상의 특징 벡터(Gabor Texture Feature)로 추출하여 영상들간의 유사성을 계산하는데 사용한다. 논문의 목적이 영상에 가해진 외적 변형, 즉 잡음 첨가, 블러링, 샤프닝 등과 같은 변형에 강인하게 동작할 수 있는 텍스쳐 특징 기반 영상 검색 기법을 제안하는 것이므로, 기존의 Gabor 필터만을 사용하여 텍스쳐 특징을 추출하여 검색의 기준으로 삼을 경우에 발생할 수 있는 주파수 성분의 변화에 대한 민감성을 Daubechies의 웨이브렛 필터를 사용하여 낮은 해상도에서 영상을 해석함으로써, 외적 변형에 대하여도 강인하게 동작할 수 있는 알고리듬을 제시하였다. 기존의 텍스쳐를 이용한 검색이 주로 텍스쳐 영역(textured region)에 대한 해석만을 하였지만, 본 논문에서는 이를 일반 영상에 적용하였으며, 일반 영상에 대해서도 효율적인 검색을 수행할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • Fingerprint recognition technology was studied by classification and matching. In general, there are five different classifications left loop, right loop, whore, arch, and tented-arch. These classifications are used to determine which class an individual's fingerprint belong to, thereby identifying the individual's fingerprint pattern. The result of this classification, which is sent to the large fingerprint database as an index, helps reduce the matching time and enhance the accuracy of fingerprint matching. The existing fingerprint classification method relies on the number and location of cores and delta points called singular points. The drawback of this method is the lack of accuracy stemming from the classification difficulty involving unclear and/or partially-erased fingerprints. The current paper presents an efficient classification method to rectify the problem associated with identifying Singular points from unclear fingerprints. This method, which is based on Gabor filter's unique characteristics for magnifying directional patterns and frequency range selections, improves fingerprint classification accuracy significantly. In this paper, this method is described and its test result is presented for verification.

  • In this paper, we work for Lipreading using visual information for ship environment. Lipreading is studied for using image information including lips of a speaker at the existing speech recognition system. This technique is a compensation method to increase recognition rate decreasing remarkably in noisy circumstances. Proposed way improved the rate of recognition improving methode of preprocessing using the Gabor Filter for Ship Environment. The experiment were carried out under changing of light with time in the ship environment with lip image. For Comparing with recognition, make a compare with between method of lip region of interest (ROI) before Gabor filtering and after Gabor filtering. In the case of using method of lip ROI before Gabor filtering, the result of the experiments applying to the proposed ways recognition resulting in 44% of recognition.

  • This paper proposes a 2-D texture segmentation algorithm which is in close analogy to amplitude demodulation in communication systems. First, we show that it is theoretically possible to segment a multitexture image using an ideal filter followed by an amplitude demodulation block. However, in practice, the Gabor filter is used instead of the ideal filter because it has many desirable properties and especially it gives optimum space-bandwidth product. Our algorithm recovers all the texture regions containing the sinusoid with frequency to which the Gabor filter is tuned. We have demonstrated the discriminating power of our method in using a synthetic multitexture image. It is clear mathematically and easy to implement. Our method can be a good alternative to avoid many problems encountered in classifying the feature vectors in feature-based texture segmentation approaches.

  • An NPC grouping method is proposed for various 3D games depending on their characteristics. Immovable objects tend to have particular orientation features in their Gabor filtering results whereas the movable objects controlled by AI appearing as a human or an animal do not. First of all, We analyzed directional and frequency domain features in the NPC object and configured them as 24 Gabor filter banks. Then, 24-dimensional feature vectors according to the scale and direction of the filter are calculated. Each extracted vector represents the energy of a certain direction. This energy indicates the particular direction strength of the object texture. Thus, using this property, NPCs could be grouped as artificial objects and natural objects effectively and it draws the game more speed and strategic actions as a result.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach for rotation invariant texture classification based on Gabor wavelet. Conventional methods have the low correct classification rate in large texture database. In our proposed method, we define two feature groups which are the global feature vector and the local feature matrix. The feature groups are output of Gabor wavelet filtering. By using the feature groups, we defined an improved discriminant and obtained high classification rates of large texture database in the experiments. From spectrum symmetry of texture images, the number of test times were reduced nearly 50%. Consequently, the correct classification rate is improved with $2.3%{\sim}15.6%$ values in 112 Brodatz texture class, which may vary according to comparison methods.

  • Image denoising as one of image enhancement methods has been studied a lot in the spatial and transform domain filtering. Recently wavelet transform which has an excellent energy compaction and a property of multiresolution has widely used for image denoising. But a transform based on human visual system is visually useful if an end user is human beings. Therefore, Gabor cosine and sine transform which is considered as human visual filter is applied to image denoising areas in this paper. Denoising performance of the proposed transform is compared with those of the derivatives of Gaussian transform being another human visual filter and of discrete wavelet transform in terms of PSNR. With three levels of various noises, experimental results for real images show that the proposed transform has better PSNR performance of 0.41dB than DWT and 0.14dB than DGT.

Color Image Segmentation Based on Edge Salience Map and Region Merging (경계 중요도 맵 및 영역 병합에 기반한 칼라 영상 분할)

  • In this paper, an image segmentation method which is based on edge salience map and region merging is presented. The edge salience map is calculated by combining a texture edge map with a color edge map. The texture edge map is computed over multiple spatial orientations and frequencies by using Gabor filter. A color edge is computed over the H component of the HSI color model. Then the Watershed transformation technique is applied to the edge salience map to and homogeneous regions where the dissimilarity of color and texture distribution is relatively low. The Watershed transformation tends to over-segment images. To merge the over-segmented regions, first of all, morphological operation is applied to the edge salience map to enhance a contrast of it and also to find mark regions. Then the region characteristics, a Gabor texture vector and a mean color, in the segmented regions is defined and regions that have the similar characteristics, are merged. Experimental results have demonstrated the superiority in segmentation results for various images.

Target Detection Using Texture Features and Neural Network in Infrared Images (적외선영상에서 질감 특징과 신경회로망을 이용한 표적탐지)

  • This study is to identify target locations with low false alarms on thermal infrared images obtained from natural environment. The proposed method is different from the previous researches because it uses morphology filters for Gabor response images instead of an intensity image in initial detection stage. This method does not need precise extracting a target silhouette to distinguish true targets or clutters. It comprises three distinct stages. First, morphological operations and adaptive thresholding are applied to the summation image of four Gabor responses of an input image to find out salient regions. The locations of extracted regions can be classified into targets or clutters. Second, local texture features are computed from salient regions of an input image. Finally, the local texture features are compared with the training data to distinguish between true targets and clutters. The multi-layer perceptron having three layers is used as a classifier. The performance of the proposed method is proved by using natural infrared images. Therefore it can be applied to real automatic target detection systems.
