  • The purpose of this study is to develop a system configuration for gathering data and building a database for agriculture. Some foreign agriculture-related companies have already constructed such a database for scientific agriculture. The hardware of this system is composed of automatic capturing equipment based on aerial photography using a UAV. The software is composed of parts for stitching images, matching GPS data with captured images, and building a database of collected weather information, farm operation data, and aerial images. We suggest a method for building the database, which can include information about the amount of agricultural products, weather, farm operation, and agricultural land images. The images of this system are about 5 times better than satellite images. Factors such as farm working and environmental factors can be basic data for analyzing the full impact of agriculture land. This system is expected to contribute to the scientific analysis of Korea's agriculture.

  • The ionosphere, the atmosphere of the earth ionized by solar radiations, has been strongly varied with solar activity. The ionosphere varies with the solar cycle, the seasons, the latitudes and during any given day. Radio wave propagation through or in the ionosphere is affected by ionospheric condition so that one needs to consider its effects on operating communication systems normally. For examples, sporadic E may form at any time. It occurs at altitudes between 90 to 140 km (in the E region), and may be spread over a large area or be confined to a small region. Sometimes the sporadic E layer works as a mirror so that the communication signal does not reach the receiver. And radiation from the Sun during large solar flares causes increased ionization in the D region which results in greater absorption of HF radio waves. This phenomenon is called short wave fade-outs. If the flare is large enough, the whole of the HF spectrum can be rendered unusable for a period of time. Due to events on the Sun, sometimes the Earth's magnetic field becomes disturbed. The geomagnetic field and the ionosphere are linked in complex ways and a disturbance in the geomagnetic field can often cause a disturbance in the F region of the ionosphere. An enhancement will not usually concern the HF communicator, but the depression may cause frequencies normally used for communication to be too high with the result that the wave penetrates the ionosphere. Ionospheric storms can occur throughout the solar cycle and are related to coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and coronal holes on the Sun. Except the above mentioned phenomena, there are a lot of things to affect the radio communication. Nowadays, radio technique for probing the terrestrial ionosphere has a tendency to use satellite system such as GPS. To get more accurate information about the variation of the ionospheric electron density, a TEC measurement system is necessary so RRL will operate the system in the near future.

  • In this study, the Digital Surface Models of various spatial resolutions were constructed using LIDAR point data on Digital Photogrammetric System. Then, the accuracies of each DSM's were evaluated using GPS surveying data. And also, observable features were classified and their accuracies were evaluated to verify the availability for Ground Control Point. On Socet Set, Digial Photogrametric System 5 DSM's of which spatial resolutions were 0.15m, 0.5m, 1.0m, 2.5m and 5.0m were constructed and the accuracies of eahc DSM's evaluated in RMSE. The RMSE's of each DSM's were 0.03m, 0.05m, 0.08m, 0.12m and 0,19m. The building feature was observable in DSM's of which spatial resolutions were 0.15m, 0.30m and 0.50m. On the contrary, it could hardly be observed in those of other spatial resolutions. In comparison with the digital map at the scale of 1:1,000, the DSM at the spatial resolution of 0.lim was shifted horizaltally by 0.6m-0.7m of RMSE in each X, Y direction. Therefore, GCP of which horizontal RMSE is better than 1m can be obtained from the DSM at the spatial resolution of 0.15m, of which vertical RMSE is 0.03m-0.19m as the RMSE of DSM. This point cannot be used in aerial triangulation of cartography but can be used for GCP in modeling of satellite image at the moderate resolution.

  • Even though GNSS provides highly accurate navigation information all over the world, it is vulnerable to jamming in the electronic warfare due to its weak signal power. The United States and Korea have plans to use terrestrial navigation systems as back-up systems during outage of GNSS. In order to develop back-up systems of GNSS, an M&S software platform is necessary for performance evaluation of various vehicle trajectories and integrated navigation systems. In this paper a design method of an M&S software is proposed for evaluation of multiple radio positioning integration systems. The proposed M&S software consists of a navigation environment generation part, a navigation algorithm part, a GUI part and a coverage analysis part. Effectiveness of the proposed design method is shown by implementing an M&S software for the GPS, DME and eLoran navigation systems.

  • In a power system, an out-of-step condition causes a variety of risk such as serious damage to system elements, tripping of loads and generators, mal-operation of relays, etc. Therefore, it is very important to detect the out-of-step condition and take a proper measure. Several out-of-step detection methods have been employed in relays until now. Most common method used for an out-of-step detection is based on the transition time through the blocking impedance area in R-X diagram. Also, the R-R dot out-of-step relay, the out-of-step prediction method and the adaptive out-of-step relay using the equal area criterion (EAC) and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology have been developed. This paper presents the out-of-step detection algorithm using the time variation of the complex power. The complex power is calculated and the mechanical power of the generator is estimated by using the electrical power, and then the out-of-step detection algorithm which is based on the complex power and the estimated mechanical power, is presented. This algorithm may detect the instant when the generator angle passes the Unstable Equilibrium Point (UEP). The proposed out-of-step algorithm is verified and tested by using Alternative Transient Program/Electromagnetic Transient Program (ATP/EMTP) MODELS.

  • In this paper, we present a good example of extreme solar and geomagnetic activities from October to November, 2003. These activities are characterized by very large sunspot groups, X-class solar flares, strong particle events, and huge geomagnetic storms. We discuss ground-based and space-based data in terms of space weather scales. Especially, we present several solar and geomagnetic disturbance data produced in Korea : sunspots, geo-magnetograms, aurora, Ionogram, and Total Electron Content (TEC) map by GPS data. Finally, we introduce some examples of the satellite orbit and communication effects caused by these activities; e.g., the disturbances of the KOMPSAT-1 operational orbit and HF communication.

  • Rapid advances in technology and changes in human and cultural activities bring about changes to the earth surface in terms of spatial extension as well as time frame of the changes. Such advances introduce shorter updating frequency of maps and geospatial database. To satisfy these requirements, recent research efforts in the geoinformatics field have been focused on the automation and speeding up of the mapping processes which resulted in products such as the digital photogrammetric workstation, GPSIINS, applications of satellite imagery, automatic feature extraction and the LiDAR system. The possibility of automatically extracting buildings and generating contours from airborne LiDAR data has received much attention because LiDAR data produce promising results. However, compared with the manually derived building footprints using traditional photogrammetric process, more investigation and analysis need to be carried out in terms of accuracy and efficiency. On the other hand, generation of the contours with LiDAR data is more efficient and economical in terms of the quality and accuracy. In this study, the effects of various conditions of the pre-processing phase and the subsequent building extraction and contour generation phases for digital mapping have on the accuracy were investigated.

  • Nowadays, many countries are interested in using CPS far navigation system of aircrafts, because it has technical and economic benefits. For the CPS based navigation system, the most important thing is reliability of the system. GPS navigation solution is very accurate. But when some faults are raised in the CPS navigation system of an aircraft, if they cannot be detected and alerts are not generated for pilots, the aircraft cannot be safe. So, I implemented an DGPS integrity monitoring system that detects faults of measurements and exclude the fault measurement from the satellite constellation used for calculating a navigation solution. This paper introduces 'the Least Square Residual Method' used to detect faults of measurements and the implemented real time integrity monitoring system using DGPS. To test the system, I operated the system under many different conditions. And from analysis of the data recorded, I could conclude that when the number of visible satellites was enough to detect faults, the system could detect the faults of measurements perfectly, isolate and exclude the fault measurement well. But for more reliable system, the measurement errors must be estimated more accurately and integrations of CPS and other instruments must be developed.

  • In This paper the embedded linux based embedded control system was used and the tracking antenna system was studied for data link and communication between moving vehicles. A microprocessor based embedded controller is equipped with SA-1110 board and this embedded controller can control the azimuth and the elevation angle of the antenna. The relative position and attitude for pointing are calculated by using the GPS position signals from the moving vehicle. To verify the performance of the designed embedded antenna system, the orbit information of the Arirang satellite(from KARI) is used.

  • The GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) signal is delayed by the neutral atmosphere at the troposphere, so that the delay is one of major error sources for GNSS precise positioning. The tropospheric delay is an integrated refractive index along the path of GNSS signal. The refractive index is empirically related to standard meteorological variables, such as pressure, temperature and water vapor partial pressure, therefore the tropospheric delay could be calculated from them. In this paper, it is presented how to generate meteorological data where observation cannot be performed. KASI(Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute) has operated 9 GPS (Global Positioning System) permanent stations equipped with co-located MET3A, which is a meteorological sensor. Meteorological data are generated from observations of MET3A by Ordinary Kriging. To compensate a blank of observation data, simple models which consider periodic characteristics for meteorological data, are employed.
