  • Purpose : Although influenza is regarded as one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in children with cancer, the actual vaccine coverage remains poor. We conducted evaluation of immunogenicity and safety of influenza vaccine in children with cancer. Methods : In this study, 25 children with cancer who received influenza vaccine (SK influenza IX vaccine$^{(R)}$) at the Korea Cancer Center Hospital between October and December 2009 were analyzed. Blood samples of patients were collected twice (at the beginning of this study and at 30th day after vaccination) and their antibody titers were measured using the hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) assay. Immunogenicity of the influenza vaccine was assessed by seroprotection rate on days 0 and 30, seroconversion rate on day 30, and mean fold increase (MFI) of geometric mean titer (GMT) of HI between days 0 and 30. Results : Any of the subjects in our study did not experienced serious adverse events after influenza vaccination. Seroprotection rates were 68% for H1N1, 40% for H3N2, and 36% for B. Seroconversion rates were 12% for H1N1, 16% for H3N2, and 20% for B. MFIs were 0.9 for H1N1, 1.2 for H3N2, and 1.8 for B. Conclusion : In the study, we found a limited protective immune response to influenza vaccine, among subjects with cancer. However, some subjects showed seroconversion, and there were no severe adverse events among all subjects, supporting the recommendation of annual influenza vaccination in children with cancer.

  • Serological monitoring has been conducted worldwide for early diagnosis of disease and monitoring of immune status in poultry. This study was conducted to evaluate the immune status of layers with sera submitted to the Avian Disease Laboratory, Chungbuk National University from 2015 to 2017. The test results were analyzed by the time submitted and by the age of the chicks. Low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) showed a low positive rate of antibody compared with those of Newcastle disease, indicating that domestic vaccination against LPAI was not sufficient. The antibody profile of infectious bronchitis (IB) depicted high level of titer and a low tendency of CV as compared to the uninfected control flocks, which indicated that most layer farms have been exposed to the field IB virus. In case of avian metapneumovirus infection (aMPV) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS), since the introduction of the vaccine in 2011 and 2017, respectively, the positive rate and the titer level were higher than those in pevious times. No significant difference in the changes of seasonal result was observed, indicating proper vaccination and improvement in biosecurity and management.

  • The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is providing maritime safety services through the operation of the Korean e-Navigation service, and research is continuously needed to improve reliability and quality to secure the competitiveness of the system. In order to secure such competitiveness, we presented the basic design for the big-data maritime information gateway system for minimizes thereal-time operation impact of the Korean e-Navigation service, and a theoretical hardware structure diagram including pseudonymization procedures to implement the overall system and solve privacy security issues. However, the proposed structure diagram and design include only the overall concept, to link real-time maritime information, required detailed privacy security method to satisfy the Privacy Act of the Republic of Korea. To solve this problem, this study will identify factors to violate the Privacy Act within the real-time maritime information(privacy of shipowner, shipping company, captain, navigator, fisherman, etc.) linked by the big-data maritime information gateway system, and research the method to link the secured information to other institutions by encrypting identified the factors.

  • Submillimeter galaxies are the progenitors of massive galaxy formation, and therefore their interaction with the early intergalactic medium must be an important subject in the cosmology and galaxy astrophysics. However, their detailed relation between the galaxies and surrounding environments is still largely unknown. In this poster, we will present the characteristics of their surrounding environments of a large sample of mm-detected submillimeter galaxies. We will also discuss the proposal for the future observations of these galaxies and their environments using the ALMA and the GMT.

  • The Giant Magellan Telescope Integral-Field Spectrograph (GMTIFS) is a near-infrared imager and integral-field spectrograph, which will be the workhorse adaptive-optics (AO) instrument on the GMT when AO operations begin. We will describe the current design and proposed capabilities of the GMTIFS. We will also present a brief overview of GMTIFS science cases that include first-light objects, galaxy feedback and assembly, the nature of compact massive objects as well as the formation and evolution of stars and planets.
