  • As remote sensing imagery with high spatial resolution (e.g. pixel resolution of 1m or less) is used widely in the specific application domains, the requirements of advanced methods for this imagery are increasing. Among many applicable methods, the texture image analysis, which was characterized by the spatial distribution of the gray levels in a neighborhood, can be regarded as one useful method. In the texture image, we compared and analyzed different results according to various directions, kernel sizes, and parameter types for the GLCM algorithm. Then, we studied spatial feature characteristics within each result image. In addition, a template matching program which can search spatial patterns using template images selected from original and texture images was also embodied and applied. Probabilities were examined on the basis of the results. These results would anticipate effective applications for detecting and analyzing specific shaped geological or other complex features using high spatial resolution imagery.

  • Recently, much of the intelligent security scenario and criminal investigation demands for matching photo and non-photo. Existing face recognition system can not sufficiently guarantee these needs. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the performance of heterogeneous face recognition systems by reducing the different modality between sketches and photos of the same person. The proposed algorithm extracts each image's texture features through texture descriptors (gray level co-occurrence matrix, multiscale local binary pattern), and based on this, generates a transformation matrix through eigenfeature regularization and extraction techniques. The score value calculated between the vectors generated in this way finally recognizes the identity of the sketch image through the score normalization methods.

  • The number of vehicles are rapidly increased as our society is developed. The vehicle recognition has been studied for a while because many people acknowledged it has critical functions to solve the problems of traffic control or vehicle-related crimes. In this paper a novel method is proposed to recognize vehicle models corresponding makers. Vehicles' models are recognized based on the texture parameters from segmented radiator region above a number plate. A three-layer neural network was built and trained with the texture features for recognition. The proposed method shows $93.7\%$ of recognition rate and $99.7\%$ of specificity for vehicles' model.

  • Mammogram images are sensitive in nature and even a minor change in the environment affects the quality of the images. Due to the lack of expert radiologists, it is difficult to interpret the mammogram images. In this paper an algorithm is proposed for a computer-aided diagnosis system, which is based on the wavelet based adaptive sigmoid function. The cascade feed-forward back propagation technique has been used for training and testing purposes. Due to the poor contrast in digital mammogram images it is difficult to process the images directly. Thus, the images were first processed using the wavelet based adaptive sigmoid function and then the suspicious regions were selected to extract the features. A combination of texture features and gray-level co-occurrence matrix features were extracted and used for training and testing purposes. The system was trained with 150 images, while a total 100 mammogram images were used for testing. A classification accuracy of more than 95% was obtained with our proposed method.

  • This study proposed a rapid microscopic examination method for pork freshness evaluation by using the self-assembled hyperspectral microscopic imaging (HMI) system with the help of feature extraction algorithm and pattern recognition methods. Pork samples were stored for different days ranging from 0 to 5 days and the freshness of samples was divided into three levels which were determined by total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content. Meanwhile, hyperspectral microscopic images of samples were acquired by HMI system and processed by the following steps for the further analysis. Firstly, characteristic hyperspectral microscopic images were extracted by using principal component analysis (PCA) and then texture features were selected based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). Next, features data were reduced dimensionality by fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) for further building classification model. Finally, compared with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model and support vector machine (SVM) model, good back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) model obtained the best freshness classification with a 100 % accuracy rating based on the extracted data. The results confirm that the fabricated HMI system combined with multivariate algorithms has ability to evaluate the fresh degree of pork accurately in the microscopic level, which plays an important role in animal food quality control.
