실습선 희망봉호의 조정성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Maneuverabilities of the Training Ship M.S.HEUIMANGBONG)

  • The maneuverabilities of the training ship M.S. HEUIMANGBONG were studied, based on the data obtained from her Z test. The results obtained were summerized as follows: 1. The maneuvering indices K' and T'of the M.S. HEUIMANGBONG were 0.542, 1.305 at 10$^{\circ}$Z Test and 0.433, 1.351 at 20$^{\circ}$Z test and 0.442, 1.388 at 30$^{\circ}$Z test respectively. The above calculated values K', T' showed that her maneuverabilities were more effective when her rudder was used to small angle than to large angle. 2. As the overshoot angles of the starbord side of the M.S. HEUIMANGBONG were larger than those of port side at 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$and 30$^{\circ}$Z test, her maneuverabilities in port turning were found to be higher than in starbord turning. 3. The running distance of a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$Z test was about 9.9 times her own length and she was considered to have a good maneuverabilities synthetically

Examining the Gm18 and $m^1G$ Modification Positions in tRNA Sequences

  • The tRNA structure contains conserved modifications that are responsible for its stability and are involved in the initiation and accuracy of the translation process. tRNA modification enzymes are prevalent in bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. tRNA Gm18 methyltransferase (TrmH) and tRNA $m^1G37$ methyltransferase (TrmD) are prevalent and essential enzymes in bacterial populations. TrmH involves itself in methylation process at the 2'-OH group of ribose at the 18th position of guanosine (G) in tRNAs. TrmD methylates the G residue next to the anticodon in selected tRNA subsets. Initially, $m^1G37$ modification was reported to take place on three conserved tRNA subsets ($tRNA^{Arg}$, $tRNA^{Leu}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$); later on, few archaea and eukaryotes organisms revealed that other tRNAs also have the $m^1G37$ modification. The present study reveals Gm18, $m^1G37$ modification, and positions of $m^1G$ that take place next to the anticodon in tRNA sequences. We selected extremophile organisms and attempted to retrieve the $m^1G$ and Gm18 modification bases in tRNA sequences. Results showed that the Gm18 modification G residue occurs in all tRNA subsets except three tRNAs ($tRNA^{Met}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$, $tRNA^{Val}$). Whereas the $m^1G37$ modification base G is formed only on $tRNA^{Arg}$, $tRNA^{Leu}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$, and $tRNA^{His}$, the rest of the tRNAs contain adenine (A) next to the anticodon. Thus, we hypothesize that Gm18 modification and $m^1G$ modification occur irrespective of a G residue in tRNAs.

Localization of Quantitative Trait Loci for Bone Mineral Density on Chromosome 13 in the Mongolian Population

  • Although the genetic basis for bone mineral density (BMD) has been studied by many groups so far, genes responsible for this complex trait has not been completely revealed. In order to localize quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for BMD variation in Asian population, the study was designed using a group of Mongolian population, a genetically closed population with a homogeneous lifestyle. BMD was measured at the left and right wrists and ankles using DEXA in 1,082 participants from 142 families. Genotyping of 13 polymorphic microsatellite markers on chromosome 13 (average spacing 8-9 cM) and two-point and multipoint linkage analysis were performed. In two-point linkage analysis, we identified two markers, D13S175 (6.03 cM) and D13S265 (68.73 cM) that had LOD scores greater than 1 for left ankle (LOD=2.09, LOD=1.49, respectively). We also found a marker D13S175 (6.03 cM) with a high LOD for left wrist (LOD=1.49) and the markers D13S265 (68.73 cM) and D13S217 (17.21 cM) for the right wrist (LOD= 1.82, LOD= 1.62, respectively). Among these significant marker regions, only two regions at 17 cM (13p11) and 65 cM (13q21) for the right wrist overlapped with major QTLs reported in following multipoint linkage analysis (LOD= 1.7549, LOD=1.4462, respectively). This study provides the possible evidence of the presence of QTLs affecting right wrist BMD in Mongolian populations on 13p11 and 13q21. Modest evidence was also found for genes affecting left ankle and left wrist BMD on 13p13.

  • We have manufactured CdS and Cd(Cu)S thin films by chemical bath deposition(CBD) process, and examined the effects of $NH_4Cl$ and TEA. The addition of $NH_4Cl$ remarkably enhanced the film thickness of CdS, however, TEA slightly decreased the film thickness. The thickness of CdS film prepared from the aqueous solution of 0.003 M $CdSO_4$ 0.00008 M $CuSO_4$, 1.3M NH3, 0.03 M $SC(NH_2)_2$ and 0.0009 M $NH_4Cl$ was 210 nm and resistivity of that was $1.2{\times}10^3{\Omega}cm$.

  • (NdㆍDy)-(FeㆍCoㆍAIㆍM)-B 합금에 Sn,Mo등을 첨가하여 그에 따른 미세구조와 열적안정성 및 자기적 특성 변화를 조사하였다. Sn과 Mo의 첨가는 (NdㆍDy)-(FeㆍCoㆍAIㆍM)-B 합금리본의 큐리온도를 크게 향상시켰으며 자기특성, 특히 보자력을 1KOe이상 증가시켰다. 그리고 이러한 현저한 보자력 증가는 입계형 defect인 disturbed grain boundary defect에 기인하는 것이라 판단되었다. 또한 Sn과 Mo 첨가원소는 irreversible loss를 각각 4%와 6% 감소시켜 리본자석의 열적안정성을 향상시켰다. 이는 Sn과 Mo의 첨가가 보자력을 크게 증가시켰기 때문이다. 한편 (NdㆍDy)-(FeㆍCoㆍAIㆍM)-B 리본자석들의 열저항온도(heat resistance temperature)는 irreversible loss와 직선관계를 이루었다.

Effect of Isothermal Aging on the Magnetic Properties of 1Cr-0.5Mo Steel

  • Magnetic properties and Rockwell hardness of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel have been investigated as a function of isothermal aging time. Our results showed that coercivity, hysteresis loss and Rockwell hardness in the aged samples decreased as aging time increased. This phenomenon was analyzed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A significant diffusion of Cr and Mo atoms formed $M_2C$ and $M_7C$ carbides, lowering the matrix strength. $M_2C$ and $M_7C$ carbides partially segregated inside grains, diffused into grain boundaries, and finally resulted in a soft ferrite matrix and a hard grain boundary. The magnetic and mechanical softening of the matrix is likely to govern the properties of the sample more than the hardening of the grain boundary by carbide precipitations.

경주 감포지역 해안단구의 지형면분석을 위한 GIS의 적용 (GIS Application for the Analysis of Geomorphic Surfaces of Marine Terrace at Gampo, Gyeongju City)

  • 1:5,000 수치지형도를 GIS로 처리하여 해안단구가 모식적으로 분포하는 경북 경주시 감포읍 일대의 지형면 분포특색을 조사하고, 지형면을 추출하였다. 이 과정에서 해안단구 지형연구에 GIS tool의 유용성과 문제점을 검토하였다. 12 지점에서의 해안단구 종단면에 대하여 종단면분석을 행하여 한국 남부 해안에서는 보고된 바 없는 해발고도 100m 이상인 고고위면을 확인하였다. 또한, 실측으로 얻은 지형면 분포가능범위인 평균경사도 $1{\sim}5^{\circ}$를 해발고도 4~87m에 대입하여, 경사도분석으로 각 단구면의 면적비를 추출하여 해안단구 저위 I 면이 해안단구 연구의 기준면이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. GIS를 이용함으로서 최소한의 노력으로 해안단구면의 분포가능지역을 탐색해 볼 수 있으나, 상세한 실제측량을 통해 각 지형면의 자료가 제공되어야 정확한 분석이 가능하다. 이 방법은 지형분석결과를 계량화하여 주므로 객관적인 분석의 기초를 제공한다. 또한 현지조사가 어려운 지역에 대한 자료를 획득할 수 있고, 지형면의 기복을 쉽게 파악할 수 있는 효용성이 있으나, 분석의 정확도를 제고하기 위해서는 보다 대축척화된 지형도와 수치지형도가 제공되어야 할 것이다.

Integrated Microdisk Gold Electrode Modified with Metal-porphyrin and Metal-phthalocyanines for Nitric Oxide Determination in Biological Media

  • An integrated gold microdisk electrode was constructed and modified with metal-porphyrin or metal-phthalocyanines for NO determination in biological media. Microanalysis of NO using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry in $1\;{\times}\;10^{-2}$ M $HClO_4$ was optimal when the accumulation potential was 0.1 V, frequency 100 Hz, and the scan rate was 200 mV/s. When the electrode was modified with metal-porphyrin or metal-phthalocyanines, the anodic peak currents of NO increased due to the catalytic oxidation of NO. In case of Fe(II)-phthalocyanine modified electrode, the peak currents remarkably increased and the sensitivity was high. The calibration curve had good linearity in the range from $3.6\;{\times}\;10^{-5}$ M to $7.2\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ M, and the detection limit was $5.7\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ M. For the structural stability and increased sensitivity, Fe(II)-phthalocyanine modified gold microdisk electrode coated with Nafion was applied to determination of NO released from cultured macrophase.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate extract from mixed culture with Trichloloma matsutake mycelium in oriental medicine and cereal medium(OCM) to develop new material for pharmaceutical products and medicinal food. To evaluate of physiological activity of OCM extracts, we examined ${\beta}$-glucan contents, SOD-like activity, nitric oxide production and cytotoxicity by MTT assay. ${\beta}$-glucan contents was found to be 52.85% for crude polysaccharide of hot water extracts of OCM(HEE) and 49.74% for crude polysaccharide of ultra sonic waves, micro waves, and micro bubble extracts of OCM (UEE). SOD like activity was showed UE 74.66%, HE 67.16%, UEE 31.34%, HEE 26.10%, respectively. NO production of UEE and HEE, at LPS 1 ug/mL, 1 mg/mL UEE showed 66.62 uM and HEE 45.68 uM. at LPS 10 ug/mL, 1 mg/mL UEE showed 63.91 uM and HEE 51.74 uM. The inhibitory effect against HT1080 was increased dose-dependently in UEE.

수열합성법에 의한 화력발전소 바닥재로부터 zeolite의 합성 (Synthesis of Zeolite from Coal Bottom Ash by Hydrotherimal Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 화력발전소 바닥재를 중금속 흡착제로 활용하기 위한 기초연구로서 수열합성법에 의해 제올라이트를 합성하였다. 화력발전소 바닥재를 분쇄하여 반응온도$(80{\sim}150^{\circ}C)$ 및 NaOH 농도$(1{\sim}5M)$를 변화시키면서 알칼리 수열합성법으로 반응시킨 결과, NaP1, hydrxoy-sodalite, tobermorite 등이 생성되었으며, 양이온 교환 능력이 높은 NaP1은 $120^{\circ}C$ 이하의 온도와 2M 이하의 NaOH 농도에서 주로 합성되었다.
