South Korea is the 8th biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the world due to its phenomenal economic growth based on manufacturing, and it is ranked first among OECD members for the rate of increase in emissions. Thus, the Korea government has voluntarily presented a reduction target and demonstrated global leadership. For the reduction of nation's GHG emission, importance of CCU(Carbon Capture and Utilization) along with CCS(Carbon Capture and Storage) technology development is increased. CCU technology is $CO_2$ utilization technology for the usage of $CO_2$ from flue gas and it can create a new economic value while reducing $CO_2$ emission. Therefore, with continued technology development, the number of application of CCU technology is increasing globally.

Recently, the Renewable Fuel Standard(RFS) has been commenced from July 31, 2015 in the New and Renewable Energy Act for expanding the supply of renewable energy and reduction of national GHG target in Korea. The biodiesel is only a means of implementation for the RFS, therefore the biodiesel supply expansion is important for fulfilling the RFS obligation policy. The major key points of the biodiesl supply are expanding domestic feedstocks due to the over 60% dependence on foreign feedstock and reducing the price of feedstock because of the over 70% occupation of feed stock price in the biodiesl production cost. Therefore, we estimated actual amount of potential feedstocks which are possible to use for biodiesl production in Korea and investigated technical and political improvements for expanding biodiesl. For estimating a potential feedstocks, first selected the potential biodiesl feedstocks by investigating the status of global biodiesl feedstocks and then analyzed the possible potential amount of each feedstock by surveying the generation situations, the distribution structures and the technical level.

Studies on the regulation and measurement of greenhouse gases(GHGs) emissions have been carrying out for global wanning. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, many countries have been promoting the Emissions Trading System and projects of the Joint Implementation(JI) and Clean Development Mechanism(CDM). These country's GHG emissions have been measured calculation criteria based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) Guidelines. In order to respond to GHGs regulation, in each country, it is planing to build a Low-Carbon City. The system has been developed for calculating GHGs emissions from companies and institutions in their respective countries. However, the system can monitor the GHGs per city, has not been developed. In this paper, it is studied to design the User Interface and to develop integrated monitoring program for Low-carbon city. This program will make possible monitoring and management, statistics, and reports written by using each data in units of cities.

As the "Guidelines for GHG Environmental Assessment" was revised, it pointed out that the developers should evaluate GHG sequestration and storage of the developing site. However, the current guidelines only taking into account the quantitative reduction lost within the development site, and did not consider the qualitative decrease in the carbon sequestration capacity of forest edge produced by developments. In order to assess the quantitative and qualitative effects of vegetation carbon uptake, the CASA-NPP model and satellite image spatial-temporal fusion were used to estimate the annual net primary production in 2005 and 2015. The development projects between 2006 and 2014 were examined for evaluate quantitative changes in development site and qualitative changes in surroundings by development types. The RMSE value of the satellite image fusion results is less than 0.1 and approaches 0, and the correlation coefficient is more than 0.6, which shows relatively high prediction accuracy. The NPP estimation results range from 0 to $1335.53g\;C/m^2$ year before development and from 0 to $1333.77g\;C/m^2$ year after development. As a result of analyzing NPP reduction amount within the development area by type of forest development, the difference is not significant by type of development but it shows the lowest change in the sports facilities development. It was also found that the vegetation was most affected by the edge vegetation of industrial development. This suggests that the industrial development causes additional development in the surrounding area and indirectly influences the carbon sequestration function of edge vegetaion due to the increase of the edge and influx of disturbed species. The NPP calculation method and results presented in this study can be applied to quantitative and qualitative impact assessment of before and after development, and it can be applied to policies related to greenhouse gas in environmental impact assessment.

Sulfur hexafloride($SF_6$) emission to atmosphere is lower than $CO_2$, but $SF_6$ GWP is 22,800 times lager than $CO_2$. In recent years as restriction of $non-CO_2$ gas has been greatly reinforced, development of environment-friendly technology with $SF_6$ removal is becoming to main issue. This study shows that $SF_6$ used insulator electrical equipment has emission characteristics during the each phase(maintenance, use, diposal), and analyzed $SF_6$ emission reduction technology related phase. The major technology applies maintenance and disposal step is that improvment of gas recovery rate($85{\rightarrow}99%$), manufacturing catalysts, internal inspection of circuit breaker using endoscopy. Using those technolgies can reduce $SF_6$ emission in atmosphere.

University buildings are energy-guzzling facility that consume more than 10,000TOE within a campus annually. Even the consumption is on an upswing trend. Behind such high consumption are there cheap power rates for education facility, lack of high-efficiency equipment and ever-increasing use of various information equipment. Being keenly aware that greenhouse gas emission increases due to such rise of energy consumption, the present study carried out a case study. In the case study, the study chose the buildings of E university from top 10 universities that consume energy most in Seoul and examined the current status of their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission. And then it set the reduction target of greenhouse gas by year. Putting aside a middle and long-termed strategy for later endeavor, it first established the 1st year's implementation plan (2014) for energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction with limited budget and according to greenhouse gas reduction target. The plan is specified as follows. Targets for energy saving are mainly divided into two sectors: machine equipment and electric equipment. 7 ideas were proposed. Three ideas to improve machine equipment are to replace with high-efficiency boilers and chillers and to adjust the position of the cooling tower. By doing so, it was estimated that energy could be saved by 176.34TOE in total and greenhouse gas could be reduced by 370.771t$CO_2$-eq. Four ideas to improve electric equipment include the replacement with LED lights, LED emergency lights and high-efficiency motors and the installation of motion sensors. It was calculated that such replacement could conserve 1,076.08TOE (electric energy) and reduce 2,181.420t$CO_2$-eq (greenhouse gas).
Objectives: Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) may be one of the biggest causes of climate change. The purposes of this study were to reduce greenhouse gases and to increase strawberry production by developing the supply devices in livestock facilities using the membrane technology Methods: Carbon dioxide was collected from beside to livestock facilities. The injection of $CO_2$ was stopped when it reached 1,000 ppm in the facility house. Case group with injection of $CO_2$ was compared to control group with normal environment. The experiments were conducted for 8 days from December 11, 2017. Results: Total strawberry production was found to be 1,317 kg in the case group and 1,176 kg in the control group. The correlation between $CO_2$ and crop yields has led to some statistical evidence that carbon dioxide helps to grow (${\beta}=0.832$, p<0.05). Conclusions: This study identified the potential for efforts to reduce the $CO_2$ in farming households. Increased concentrations of $CO_2$ have shown that strawberries have a better growth condition. In addition, it can be explained that the plants need wide leaves to quickly absorb much $CO_2$.

Syngas or fuel gas production through biomass gasification is a century old technology. Biomass gasification is getting more and more interest recently as one of competitive renewable energy technologies. It does not contribute to increasing greenhouse gases(GHG). A down-draft gasifier was designed and tested for syngas quality using different fuel sets in this study. The gasifier was of about 100kW capacity. Tests were conducted at air flow rates ranging from 10 to $60m^3/hr$. Fuels tested included wood chips and wood char. The results showd that gas quality in terms of flammability was reasonably good when the temperatures were over $600^{\circ}C$ inside the gasifier. Although $800^{\circ}C$ or higher is recommended, gas quality was reasonably good. If insulation was provided outside the gasifier, the temperature would increase. When wood chips were used, the temperature was below $600^{\circ}C$ and gas quality was not good. It seemed that calorific values of fuel and height of reduction zone in the gasifier are very important. The results of the tests would provide important information for designing more improved gasifier and its operation.
As user-involved energy saving activities have become important in recent years, many forms of energy feedback experiments have been conducted. We conducted a study to determine if energy feedback activities affect energy saving for students living in dormitories at a university in Seoul. In particular, smart plugs were used for efficient research and quantitative performance measurements, and the extent of the impact of competition and rewards on participant energy saving behavior was further analyzed. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the power usage of groups using smart plugs was lower than that of those without them. Second, energy feedback delivered to smart plug users did not have a significant impact on reduction of electric power consumption. Third, competition and compensation strategies had additional effects in reducing power usage for smart plug users. As a result, methods to deliver energy feedback more effectively as ICT technologies develop and efficient energy activities using IoT technologies can be expected to spread widely in the future.
