The advent of next generation sequencing technology has elicited plenty of sequencing data available in agriculturally relevant plant species. For most crop species, it is too expensive to obtain the whole genome sequence data with sufficient coverage. Thus, many approaches have been developed to bring down the cost of NGS. Genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) is a cost-effective genotyping method for complex genetic populations. GBS can be used for the analysis of genomic selection (GS), genome-wide association study (GWAS) and constructing haplotype and genetic linkage maps in a variety of plant species. For efficiently dealing with plant GBS data, the TASSEL-GBS pipeline is one of the most popular choices for many researchers. TASSEL-GBS is JAVA based a software package to obtain genotyping data from raw GBS sequences. Here, we describe application of GBS and bioinformatics pipeline of TASSEL-GBS for analyzing plant genetics data.
Group B streptococcus (GBS) is the leading cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis in developed countries. This article reviews the neonatal invasive GBS disease, maternal GBS colonization, and prevention strategies in the context of recent epidemiological changes in Korea. Although Korean neonates had been supposed to have low incidence of invasive GBS disease, GBS has been recently reported to be the most common cause of invasive neonatal infection after 1990s. Among Korean pregnant women, GBS carriage rate in the vagina and rectum has been reported to be much lower than that in Western countries. However, it has increased in recent studies. For decision making about preventive strategy for neonatal GBS disease in Korea, further studies are required in terms of the incidence of neonatal GBS infection and serotype distribution. In addition, studies about maternal carriage rate and serotype distribution have to be continued.
This study focuses on the comparison of PBL and GBS. PBL is a famous model that emphasizes diversity of students and self directed learning within the theory of constructivism. GBS has not been studied that extensively. GBS is most similar to PBL but this model has not been actively applied to school education. This study focuses on how to enhance students' interest in an educational environment that is encompassing a new and changing teach-learn paradigm and the development of new technology. Furthermore, PBL and GBS methods were compare actively applied to "Environmental Education" to make the students learn self-directed education through the transformation of one's environmental awareness. Specifically, the models were applied to the "Ecology and Environment" subject taught in general high schools and the degree of 'environmental literacy' were measured, From March to May of 2007, the PBL and GBS models were applied to 3rd grade students at D high school and the subject was 'Ecology and Environment'. The students were divided according to age into groups of $5{\sim}7$. The PBL group attempted to solve the given problems and the GBS group carried out their missions. In conclusion, after analyzing the 'environmental literacy' survey results by SPSS 12.0, just 'Knowledge of Ecology (KEOC)' and 'Locus of Control (LOC)' were slightly significant in PBL. This shows that PBL enhances the students' problem solving ability and thinking power. This is a result of the enhancement of students' problem-solving and thinking abilities through PBL. Students can learn many things because they completed their projects based on their experience and knowledge, both individually and interpersonally. We have to study how to apply PBL and GBS to the education field in spite of the many limited conditions. Therefore, this study looks at the application of PBL and GBS in environmental education and suggests specific strategies for educators who want to apply GBS and PBL and adapt them into their education curricula.
Purpose: An association between Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination has been reported. We aimed to summarize the clinical features of GBS associated with SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and determine the contrasting features from coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) associated GBS and GBS following other causes. Materials and Methods: We performed PubMed search for articles published between 1 December 2020 and 27 January 2022 using search terms related to "SARS-CoV-2 vaccination" and "GBS". Reference searching of the eligible studies was performed. Sociodemographic and vaccination data, clinical and laboratory features, and outcomes were extracted. We compared these findings with post-COVID-19 GBS and International GBS Outcome Study (IGOS) (GBS from other causes) cohorts. Results: We included 100 patients in the analysis. Mean age was 56.88 years, and 53% were males. Six-eight received non-replicating virus vector and 30 took messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines. The median interval between the vaccination and the GBS onset was 11 days. Limb weakness, facial palsy, sensory symptoms, dysautonomia, and respiratory insufficiency were seen in 78.65%, 53.3%, 77.4%, 23.5%, and 25%, respectively. The commonest clinical and electrodiagnostic subtype were sensory-motor variant (68%) and acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (61.4%), respectively. And 43.9% had poor outcome (GBS outcome score ≥3). Pain was common with virus vector than mRNA vaccine, and the latter had severe disease at presentation (Hughes grade ≥3). Sensory phenomenon and facial weakness were common in vaccination cohort than post-COVID-19 and IGOS. Conclusion: There are distinct differences between GBS associated with SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and GBS due to other causes. Facial weakness and sensory symptoms were commonly seen in the former and outcomes poor.
Guillain-Barr$\acute{e}$ syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. In typical cases, the first symptoms of GBS are pain, numbness, paresthesia, weakness in the limbs. Autonomic involvement is common and causes urinary retention and ileus. Much of these symptoms overlap with those of lumbar spinal stenosis. Therefore, correct diagnosis of GBS in a patient with symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis or in a patient with atypical manifestations of GBS can be difficult, especially early in the course of GBS. Here, we report on a case of atypical GBS in a 74-year-old previously healthy patient with lumbar spinal stenosis and discuss the differential diagnosis of the GBS and lumbar spinal stenosis.
Genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) has been used as a viable single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) validation method that provides reduced representation sequencing by using restriction endonucleases. Although GBS makes it possible to perform marker discovery and genotyping simultaneously with reasonable costs and a simple molecular biology workflow, the standard TASSEL-GBS pipeline was designed for homozygous groups, and genotyping of heterozygous groups is more complicated. To addresses this problem, we developed a GBS pipeline for heterozygous groups that called KNU-GBS pipeline, specifically for apple (Malus domestica). Using KNU-GBS pipeline, we constructed a genetic linkage map consisting of 1,053 SNP markers distributed over 17 linkage groups encompassing a total of 1350.1 cM. The novel GBS pipeline for heterozygous groups will be useful for marker-assisted breeding programs, and diverse heterozygous genome analyses.
Recently environmental problem becomes such a big issue all over the world that the necessity and importance of the environmental education in school has been simultaneously emphasized. While diverse methods for the environmental education have been researched, this paper, especially focused on a teaching-learning model called GBS (Goal-based scenario), aims to provide a new learner-centered approach for the environmental education. For this purpose, this paper first briefly presents two theoretical backgrounds of GBS (i.e., constructivism and Schank's dynamic memory theory), which is followed by specific and concrete strategies and methods of how to apply GBS in class for the teacher. GBS(Goal-Based Scenario) is a learner-centered model in which learners are presented with a reality-based scenario (or task or problem) and go through several stages of 'missions' to get to a final solution of the given scenario. GBS, while completely resonant with other constructivist learning models in terms of learner-centered approaches, is distinctive from others, when it supplies more specific, structured guides of learning, called 'missions', to the students throughout the whole learning process. In a words, GBS ought to be recognized as an unique learner-centered model compromising the contradictory concepts of 'learner control' and 'structure and specifics' in learning environments still without any damage of constructivist learning principles.
The solution of the environment problem is the common issue all over the world, for this reason the necessity of the environmental education of school has emphasized. On this a variety method for environmental education is needed, this paper planned and applied the 'ecology & environment' for high school which are based on GBS theory and presented a new model of environment education. GBS(Goal-Based Scenario) is that learners are presented with an end goal that is motivating and challenging. This goal is structured such that, in order to successfully meet it learners are required to build a predetermined core set of skills and knowledge by process mission and scenario. GBS is an active learning environment in which learners are trained in study that have a real-world context. When they are back in real-world they have increased ability to apply what was learned by reflecting on the GBS learning experience. This study was designed on GBS theory and taught a class by using internet Blog. As a result, when carefully reviewing the materials such as final presentation reflect journal, we conclude that the students' awareness of a learning environment is improved and the students seems to try to apply the learning outcome to a real life.
Rheological properties of ordinary portland cement (OPC) containing metakaoline (MK), granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) and polycarboxylate type superplasticizer (PCA) were investigated using a mini-slump test, sedimentation test and viscometer. Fluidity of cement pastes containing MK (OPC-MK, OPC-MK-GBS systems) with PCA were higher than those of the cement pastes without MK(OPC, OPC-GBS systems). Colloid suspensions with $0.1\%$ PCA were changed from stable sedimentation behaviors to flocculation behaviors in the OPC-MK, OPC-GBS and OPC-MK-GBS systems. The colloid suspensions showed stable sedimentation behaviors with PCA greater than $0.2\%$. The OPC system showed shear thinning behavior. However, the other systems showed weak shear thinning behaviors with PCA. Rheological properties of cement pastes were improved when MK and GBS were contained together. The rheological properties of OPC-MK, OPC-GBS and OPC-MK-GBS systems were improved by PCA added greater than $0.2\%$.

Objective: This study examines whether maternal group B Streptococcus (Streptococcus agalactiae, GBS) infection was associated with preterm births and premature neonatal outcomes. Methods: Maternal and neonatal outcomes were examined among singleton pregnant women with preterm birth (from $24^{+0}weeks$ to $36^{+6}weeks$) who were tested for GBS (n=203) during the pregnancy. Data were collected retrospectively from the medical records of women who delivered at our hospital from January 2015 to February 2017. We compared obstetrical factors (causes of preterm birth) and neonatal (gestational age at delivery, birth weight, Apgar score 1 min/5 min, hospitalization period, duration of mechanical ventilation, neonatal C-reactive protein within three days, and other complication [respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal deaths]) outcomes between GBS-infected and non-infected pregnant women. Results: There were 203 singleton pregnant women included in the study, 25 of whom were confirmed to have a GBS infection during the pregnancy. There was no difference in neonatal outcomes by GBS status. Preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM), as an obstetric factor, was associated with GBS infection (P=0.022). GBS infection raised the risk of pPROM by 3.6 times (odds ratio 3.648, 95% confidence interval 1.476-9.016, P=0.005). Conclusion: GBS infection in preterm birth was associated with pPROM but did not result in adverse neonatal outcomes. Continuous attention and evaluation of GBS infection, a major cause of neonatal sepsis and pneumonia, are needed.
