  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effects of electro-acupuncture(EA) at the SP6(Sameumgyo)-GB39(Hyeonjong) on normal human EEG using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEG power spectrum exhibit site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity(LAXTHA Co., KOREA). 30 channel EEG study was carried out in 20 subjects $(20\;males;\;age=21.4{\pm}0.5\;years)$. Results : In $\alpha$(alpha) band, the power values at F4 channels(p<0.05) during the SP6-GB39 acupoints treatment was significantly increased. But, the power values at Fz channel during the non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased . In $\beta$(beta) band, the power values at Fz, FTC1, T3 channels(p<0.05) was significantly increased during the SP6-GB39 acupoints treatment. In $\delta$(delta) band, the power values at F4, C3, Cz, CP1, Pz channels(p<0.05) during SP6-GB39 acupoints treatment were significantly decreased.

  • Objectives: To investigate the effect of Ginseng herbal acupuncture at GB39 and ST36 on growth in mice. Methods: Mice were divided into four groups (n=10); G-ST36 group treated with Ginseng Radix herbal acupuncture at right ST36, G-GB39 group treated with the same at GB39, Control-ST36 group and Control-GB39 group injected with saline at right ST36 and GB39 respectively. The saline injection and herbal acupuncture were performed 3 times a week for 3 weeks. The length( total height, body length and tail length), weight and the protein efficiency ratio were measured as well as IGF-I level in serum Results: The weights of Ginseng herbal acupuncture groups were not significantly increased compared to the control groups but the protein efficiency ratios were significantly higher in Ginseng herbal acupuncture groups compared to the control groups. The increases of the total length, body length and tail length were significantly higher in Ginseng herbal acupuncture groups than the control groups. The serum IGF-I level of G-GB39 was significantly increased compared to control-GB39, not that of G-ST36 compared to control-ST36. Conclusions: Ginseng herbal acupuncture at GB39 and ST36 are both effective to promote growth in terms of height and weight. GB39 may be effective for growth by way of increasing IGF-I, and more closely related to growth in height than ST36.

  • Objectives : To investigate the effect of Ga-mee-Gwui-ryong-tang herbal acupuncture(GR-HA) at GB39 and ST36 and the effect of Yuk-mee-ji-hwang-tang herbal acupuncture(YM-HA) at GB39 and KI10 on growth in mice. Methods : Mice were divided into 7 group(n=10) ; saline-ST36, saline-GB39 and KI10, GR-HA-ST36 group treated with GR-HA at right ST36, GR-HA-GB39 group treated with GR-HA at right GB39, YM-HA-GB39 group treated with YM-HA at right GB39, YM-HA-KI10 group treated with YM-HA at right KI10. Saline-ST36 group, saline-GB39 group and saline-KI10 group were injected with saline at right ST36, GB39, KI10 respectively. Saline injection and HA were performed 3 times a week for 18 days. The length(total height, body length and tail length), weight and the protein efficiency ratio were measured as well as IGF-1 level in serum. Results : 1. GR-HA at GB39 and GR-HA at ST36 promoted growth in weight, tail length and total height but there was no statistical significance. 2. GR-HA at GB39 significantly promoted protein efficiency on the 14th day and GR-HA at ST36 on the 3rd day. 3. GR-HA at GB39 significantly increased serum IGF-1. GR-HA at ST36 increased IGF-1 slightly but with no statistical significance. 4. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 promoted growth in weight, height, tail length and total height but there was no statistical relevance. 5. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 significantly promoted protein efficiency on the 14th day. 6. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 significantly increased serum IGF-1. Serum IGF-1 level of YM-HA-KI10 group was significantly higher than that of YM-HA-GB39 group. 7. Serum IGF-1 level of GR-HA-GB39 group was significantly higher than that of YM-HA-GB39 group. Conclusions : GR-HA and YM-HA both may promote growth. This study suggests that herbal acupuncture at GB39 is more effective with Gwui-ryong-tang than Yuk-mee ji-hwang-tang to promote growth. It also suggests that Yuk-mee ji-hwang-tang herbal acupuncture is more effective at KI10 than at GB39.

  • Objectives and Methods: The treatments of osteoporosis in occidental medicine are need complementations for reason of low-continuation and adverse-drug-reaction. So we would have literature centered consideration both oriental medical cognition and acupuncture-moxibustion therapy in osteoporosis. Results: 1. Deficiency of bone marrow caused by heat in the kidney and deficiency of kidney Gi, is causative of osteoporosis in pathology in oriental medicine. 2. Bone flaccidity and bone impediment are similar with osteoporosis. Withered bone comes under pathogenesis of bone flaccidity. And heavy debilitating disease of the bone is exacerbation of bone impediment. 3. In acupuncture-moxibustion therapy of osteoporosis, Bladder Meridian of Foot Taeyang, Kidney Meridian of Foot Soeum, Gallbladder Meridian of Foot Soyang, Lung Meridian of Hand Taeeum, Large Intestine Meridian of Hand Yangmyeong, Spleen Meridian of Foot Taeeum, Conception Channel, Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangmyeong, and Heart Meridian of Hand Soeum are used much in the order named. 4. In acupuncture-moxibustion therapy of osteoporosis, Hyeonjong(GB39, 7times), Daejeo(BL11, 3times), Sanggwan(GB3, 2times), Sinsu(BL23, 2times), Gyeoksu(BL17, 2times), Honmun(BL47, 2times), Buryu(KI7, 2times), Taebaek(SP3, 2times), Sanggu(SP5, 2times), Sangnyeom(LI9, 2times) are used much in the order named. Conclusions: In treatment of osteoporosis, we could make full use of acupuncture-moxibustion therapy. And we need active and persistent study about osteoporosis.

  • Objectives: This review aims to report the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: We searched for randomized controlled studies (RCTs) using electroacupuncture on primary dysmenorrhea up to Dec 2016. The following databases were searched : OASIS, PubMED, EMBASE, CENTRAL. The results of the studies were analyzed and the risk of bias was assessed. Results: Five studies were included in this review. In most studies, the effect of electroacupuncture at Sameumgyo (SP6) was better than that of electroacupuncture at Hyeonjong (GB39), nonacupoint and no intervention about Visual analog scale (VAS), Verbal rating scale (VRS) and Retrospective symptom scale (RSS). But there were no significant effects on Resistance Index (RI) and S/D ratio (the ratio between peak systolic to end-diastolic flow velocity in uterine arteries). Serous adverse events were not reported. Conclusions: This review shows that electroacupuncture is effective on primary dysmenorrhea with no serious adverse events.
