A Single-Stage 37 dB-Linear Digitally-Controlled Variable Gain Amplifier for Ultrasound Medical Imaging

  • This paper presents a variable gain amplifier (VGA) for an analog front-end (AFE) of ultrasound medical imaging. This VGA has a closed-loop topology and shows a 37-dB-linear characteristic with a single-stage amplifier. It consists of an op-amp, a non-binary-weighted capacitor array, and a gain-control block. This non-binary-weighted capacitor array reduces the required number of capacitors and the complexity of the gain-control block. The VGA has been fabricated in a 0.35-mm CMOS process. This work gives the largest gain range of 37 dB per stage, the largest P1 dB of 9.5 dBm at the 3.3-V among the recent VGA circuits available in the literature. The voltage gain is controlled in the range of [-10, 27] dB in a linear-in-dB scale with 16 steps by a 4-bit digital code. The VGA has a bandpass characteristic with a passband of [20 kHz, 8 MHz].

  • 본 논문에서는 CMOS 0.18 um 공정을 이용하여 UWB(Ultra Wide Band) 시스템의 $3.1{\sim}4.8\;GHz$ 대역에서 사용할 수 있는 스위칭-이득 제어 저잡음 증폭기를 설계하였다. 높은 이득 모드에서 전력 이득은 12.5 dB, IIP3는 0 dBm, 소비 전류는 8.13 mA로 측정되었으며, 낮은 이득 모드에서는 전력 이득 -8.7 dB, IIP3는 9.2 dBm, 소비 전류는 0 mA로 측정 되었다.

LabVIEW 기반 6축 수직다관절 로봇의 게인스케쥴링 구현 연구 (Gain Scheduling in a 6-Axis Articulated Robot Based on LabVIEW)

  • Recent years have witnessed a growing demand for a wide variety of high-performance industrial robots. In this paper, for accurate gain tuning of a 6-axis articulated industrial robot with reduced noise, a program routine for a dynamic signal analyzer (DSA) using the frequency response method will be programmed using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Then, robot transfer functions can be obtained experimentally using the frequency response method with the DSA program. Data from the robot transfer functions are transformed into Bode plots, based on which an optimal gain tuning will be executed. Gain tuning can enhance the response quality of the output signal for a given input signal during real-time control of the robot. The effectiveness of our proposed technique will be verified by implementation with a (lab-manufactured) 6-axis articulated industrial robot (hereinafter called "RS2") and comparison with the zero position gain tuning, as well as other positions.

소형화된 급전부를 갖는 위성통신용 고이득 안테나 설계 (Design of High-gain Antenna for Satellite Communication with Miniaturized Feed Structure)

  • In this paper, a high-gain antenna for satellite communication is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of septum polarizer, circular waveguide, Hat-feed structure that has a high-gain and efficiency. Especially, it is smaller and lighter than the conventional satellite communication antennas by applying a hat-feed structure. The measured results show that received gain of proposed antenna is better than 29.9 dBi and transmitted gain of proposed antenna is better than 30.5 dBi. The co-polarized and cross-polarized radiation patterns comply with ITU-RR Ap.8 and ITU-R S.731-1 that are recommended by International Telecommunication Union. The designed high-gain antenna for satellite communication is expected to be used for OTM and airborne satellite systems.

조향형 이동로봇을 위한 PID 이득 자동 튜닝에 관한 연구 (A Study on PID Gain Auto Tuning for Steering Type mobile robot)

  • 본 논문은 조향구조를 갖는 이동로봇의 조향 제어를 위해 PID 제어기의 이득을 튜닝 방법을 제안한다. PID 이득을 설정하는 다양한 방법들이 제시되고 연구되고 있다. 이득은 지글러-니콜스의 계단형 입력으로부터 이득을 얻는 방법으로 얻어진 이득을 이동로봇에 적용하고 이를 시험하여 다시 2차 전달함수에 의해 새로운 이득을 계산하였다. 얻어진 새로운 이득으로 응답시간 및 유지오차율에 관한 실험을 수행하여 PID 자동 튜닝의 성능을 확인하였다. 유지시간, 응답시간 및 수렴시간에 대한 실험결과로 이동로봇의 조향 시스템에서 사용이 가능하고 응답 시간이 빠르게 도달할 수 있으며 안정하게 제어됨을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문은 다중 이득 제어를 통하여 빠른 lock-time을 갖는 디지털 위상 주파수 검출기 회로를 제안한다. 기준신호와 피드백 신호의 위상 차이가 클 때, 위상 차이가 적으면서 lock에 근접했을 때, lock 이후의 세 경우에 따라 디지털 위상 동기 루프의 이득을 다르게 설정하여 lock-time을 효과적으로 줄일 수 있다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 제안된 기법을 적용함으로써 기존의 단일 이득 제어 구조보다 lock-time을 약 100배 개선시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

A 41dB Gain Control Range 6th-Order Band-Pass Receiver Front-End Using CMOS Switched FTI

  • A 41dB gain control range $6^{th}$-order band-pass receiver front-end (RFE) using CMOS switched frequency translated impedance (FTI) is presented in a 40 nm CMOS technology. The RFE consists of a frequency tunable RF band-pass filter (BPF), IQ gm cells, and IQ TIAs. The RF BPF has wide gain control range preserving constant filter Q and pass band flatness due to proposed pre-distortion scheme. Also, the RF filter using CMOS switches in FTI blocks shows low clock leakage to signal nodes, and results in low common mode noise and stable operation. The baseband IQ signals are generated by combining baseband Gm cells which receives 8-phase signal outputs down-converted at last stage of FTIs in the RF BPF. The measured results of the RFE show 36.4 dB gain and 6.3 dB NF at maximum gain mode. The pass-band IIP3 and out-band IIP3@20 MHz offset are -10 dBm and +12.6 dBm at maximum gain mode, and +14 dBm and +20.5 dBm at minimum gain mode, respectively. With a 1.2 V power supply, the current consumption of the overall RFE is 40 mA at 500 MHz carrier frequency.

Comparison of Antenna Parameters of R-/S-Band Standard Gain Horn Antennas

  • A comparison of the antenna parameters for R-band (1.7-2.6 GHz) and S-band (2.6-3.95 GHz) standard gain horn antennas has been performed by the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), together with seven domestic participants from private companies and public institutions. Its purpose, as a proficiency test program of the 'Antenna Measurement Club' of KRISS, was to check equivalences in antenna parameter measurements between KRISS and the participants, particularly in the R-/S-band, to support antenna manufacturers and end users in Korea. The measurement parameters of this comparison are the power gain, radiation pattern, and reflection coefficient of the traveling standards for R-/S-band pyramidal standard gain horn antennas. The comparison used a gain comparison method and an extrapolation method to measure the power gain of the two traveling standards; the radiation patterns were measured in the far-field region of the transmitting and receiving antennas.

A High-Linearity Low-Noise Reconfiguration-Based Programmable Gain Amplifier

  • This paper presents a high-linearity low-noise small-size programmable gain amplifier (PGA) based on a new low-noise low-distortion differential amplifier and a proposed reconfiguration technique. The proposed differential amplifier combines an inverter-based differential pair with an adaptive biasing circuit to reduce noise and distortion. The reconfiguration technique saves the chip size by half by utilizing the same differential pair for the input transconductance and load-stage, interchangeably. Fabricated in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS, the proposed PGA shows a dB-linear control range of 21dB in 16 steps from -11 dB to 10 dB with a gain error of less than ${\pm}0.33$ dB, an IIP3 of 7.4~14.5 dBm, a P1dB of -7~1.2 dBm, a noise figure of 13dB, and a 3-dB bandwidth of 270MHz at the maximum gain, respectively. The PGA occupies a chip area of $0.04mm^2$ and consumes only 1.3 mA from the 1.8 V supply.

L-band EDFA 에서의 온도에 따른 이득 변화와 가변 감쇄기를 이용한 온도 보상 (A compensation method for a temperature-dependent gain tilt in L-band EDFA using a voltage-controlled attenuator)

  • $0^{\circ}C$에서 5$0^{\circ}C$까지 온도를 변화시켜 가며 100 GHz의 채널 간격으로 L-band 40채널을 운용했을 때, 온도에 따른 L-band EDFA의 출력 스펙트럼 변화와 이득 변동폭을 측정하였다. 이득 포화 영역에서의 이득의 변화로 인한 출력 스펙트럼의 변화는 온도에 따른 출력 스펙트럼의 변화와 상반되는 점을 이용하여 1단과 2단 사이에 삽입한 가변 감쇄기를 조절하여 온도에 따른 이득 변동을 보상하였다. 그 결과, $0^{\circ}C$에서 최대 3 dB까지 차이를 보이던 이득 변동 폭은 가변 감쇄기를 이용한 온도 보상으로 1 dB 이내로 줄어듦을 볼 수 있었다.
