Weed Control with Herbicides in Protected Semi - irrigated Rice Seedbed (보온절충(保溫折衷) 못자리에 있어서 제초제(除草劑)에 의한 잡초방제(雜草防除)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • This experiment was conducted to find out selective herbicides which are safe to the rice seedlings and to provide effective weed control method in protected semi-irrigated rice seedbed. There was no crop injury in rice with benzophenap [2-(4-2, 4-dichloro-3-methylbenzoyl)-1, 3-dimethyl-pyrazol-5-yl-oxy)-4'-methyl acetophenone] (240g), pyrazoxyfene [1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-Sphenacyloxy pyrazole] (200g), chlormethoxynil [2,4-dichlorophenyl-4-nitro-3-methoxyphenyl ether] (180g), dimepiperate [S-(1-methyl-1-phenethyl)-piperidine-l-carbathioate] (210g), dimepiperate + probenazol [3-allyloxy-1,2-benzisothiazol-1,1-dioxide] (210 + 120g) mixture and dimepiperate + probenazol + molinate [S-ethyl-N,N-hexamethylene-thiol-carbamate] (120 + 120 + 120g) mixture at times of application studied. Butachlor [2-chloro-2',6'-diethyl-N-buthoxymethyl acetanilide] + pyrazolate [4-(2,4-dichlorbenzoyl)-1,3dimethyl-pyrazol-5-yl-p-toluene-sulfonate] (70 + 120g) mixture and butachlor + chlormethoxynil (60 + 120g) mixture caused root length to shorten and root viability to decrease. However, the crop injury was recovered at 25 days after seeding. Benzophenap, pyraxoxyfene and butachlor + pyrazolate mixture were effective for weed control when applied at 2 days before seeding. Chlormethoxynil and butachlor + chlormethoxynil mixture was very effective for controlling annual weed. Dimepiperate, dimepiperate + probenazol mixture and dimepiperate + probenazol + molinate mixture did not control most weeds except for Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv.

Rotavirus P and G Genotypes Circulating in Kyungsangnamdo, Korea, during 2000~2001 (2000~2001년 경상남도에서 유행한 로타바이러스 유전자형)

  • Purpose : Rotaviruses are the major cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide. It is important to get the epidemiologic data of rotavirus genotype for the application of rotavirus vaccine. So we tried to investigate the distribution of rotavirus genotypes with RT-PCR. Methods : A total of 120 rotavirus latex agglutinin test positive stool samples were collected continually from 120 children from Sep. 2000 to Apr. 2001. Rotavirus P(VP4), G (VP7) genotypes were determined by RT-PCR. Results : The genotype was identified in 116 stool samples of total 120 samples(96%). The incidence of G genotype was as follow; G1 17(14.2%), G2 74(61.7%), G4 1(0.8%), G9 1(0.8%). There were four cases of multiple genotypes; G1/G2, G1/G4, G1/G9, G8/G9 and genotype of G3, G8 were not found. Twenty three(19.2%) samples were nontypeable. The incidence of P was as follow; P[4] 77(64.2%), P[6] 22(18.3%), P4/P6 12(10%), P[4]/P[8] 1(0.8%) p[8] 1(0.8%). Seven(5.9%) samples were nontypeable. Conclusion : Various combinations of G and P genotypes were observed. Most rotavirus strains were P[4]G2 62(51.74%), followed by P[6]G2 7(5.8%), and P[6]G1 7(5.8%), P[4/P[6] G1 4(3%), P[4]/P[6]G2 4(3%), P[4]G1 3(2.5%), P[8]G2 1(0.8%), P[4]G4 1(0.8%) in Kyoungsangnamdo, Korea during 2000~2001.

Growth Characteristics of Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) Cultivars according to Growth Period in Early Cultivation (고구마 조기재배시 품종별 생육과 괴근비대 특성)

  • To obtain basic data on the effects of differences cultivation periods and methods on growth and development of sweet potato tuber. We investigated growth and development of six major cultivars showing different characteristics, such as dry type(Yulmi, YM; Jinhongmi, JHM), intermediate type(Pungwonmi, PWM; Hogammi, HGM), and purple type(Sinjami, SJM; Danjami, DJM). The average tuber weight of YM and JHM was 4.1 and 8.6 g respectively, 50 days after transplant. At 80 days, the weight of YM and JHM rapidly increased to 25.2 and 26.1 g, respectively. Finally, at 120 days, the weight of YM and JHM increased to 120.7 and 79.4 g, respectively. The average tuber weight of PWM and HGM was 13 and 3.3 g, respectively, 50 days after transplant. The development pattern of PWM showed a consistent increase in tuber weight during the cultivation period, an average weight of 104.2 g at 120 days. However, the tuber development pattern of HGM was different from that of PWM. The average tuber weight of HGM rapidly increased for 100 days after transplant and then showed no increase at 120 days. In case of purple type sweet potato, the average tuber weight of SJM consistently increased during the cultivation period, whereas DJM showed rapid increase in average tuber weight at 80 days after transplant. Korean consumers prefer small, round sweet potato approximately 100g in weight. Based on the results, YM, PWM and SJM are classified as early developing cultivars that can be harvested approximately 120 days after transplant. On the other hand, JHM, HGM, and DJM are classified as late developing cultivars that can be harvested approximately 130 days after transplant.

Effect of NaOCl and Gold Plating Additive on the Gold Recovery in Cyclone Electrolytic Cell from Solution for Stripping Gold of PCB by Cyanide (시안을 이용한 PCB 금 박리용액으로부터 사이클론 전해조에서의 금 회수거동에 미치는 차아염소산나트륨과 금 도금첨가제의 영향)

  • The recovery of gold in cyclone type electrolytic cell was conducted from solution for stripping gold of PCB by cyanide. The electrolytic recovery behaviors of gold was investigated by reaction time and addition of electrolytic sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and gold plating additive (KG-120). Because the electrolysis generated NaOCl reacted with the cyanide in the leachate by alkaline chlorination, more than 99% of the cyanide was removed at a $NaOCl(g)/CN^-(g)$ ratio of 1.0. When NaOCl was added during the recovery of the gold from cyanide leachate in the cyclone electrolytic cell, the recovery of gold was 98% at the ratio of $NaOCl(g)/CN^-(g)$ from 0.5 to 2.5 in 480 minutes and decreased rapidly over the ratio of 3.0. Gold was recovered more than 99% by adding 1.5 and 4.5%(v/v) of KG-120 with NaOCl in 480 minutes. In particular, when the concentration of KG-120 was 3.5 and 4.5%(v/v), more than 96% of gold was recovered within 240 minutes and the initial recovery rate was relatively faster. The optimum concentration of KG-120 is 3.5%(v/v) considering the economic feasibility and efficiency.

Comparison of optimal culture and growth characteristics of the Lentinula edodes fruit body 'Sanjo701ho', 'Nongjingo' (표고 '산조701호', '농진고'의 최적 배양 및 자실체 특성 비교)

  • This study investigated the characteristics of different cultivars of Lentinula edodes in sawdust culture at different cultivation days. Between cultivation days 30-120, the color of 'Sanjo701ho' displayed a reduction in L value (brightness) from $83.8{\pm}2.5$ to $45.7{\pm}2.3$, values a and b increased, but hardness decreased from $9.4{\pm}0.9g/mm$ to $2.6{\pm}0.2g/mm$. Between cultivation days 30-120, 'Nongjingo' displayed a reduction in L value from $86.2{\pm}2.1$ to $53.4{\pm}1.3$. Values a and b increased with longer cultivation; however, hardness decreased from $4.8{\pm}0.7g/mm$ on day 30 to $3.8{\pm}1.0g/mm$ on day 120. 'Sanjo701ho' was first harvested at 46 days after a 30-, 89 days after a 60-, 8 days after a 90- (the shortest), and 9 days after a 120-day cultivation. The average fruit body weight was the highest on day 90 of cultivation, at 48.3 g, when the diameter and thickness of the mushroom cap also appeared highest. However, the colorimetric results showed that fruiting bodies produced in the culture medium for 120 cultivation days showed the most excellent commercial properties. 'Nongjingo' was first harvested at 22 days after a 30-, 18 days after a 60-, 8 days after a 90- (the shortest), and 9 days after a 120-day cultivation. Therefore, this study determined that a stable quantity of mushrooms with high commerciality can be produced with 120 cultivation days, considering the shiitake culture and the characteristics of the fruit body.

  • Let G be a finiteg oroup. We denote BG a classifying space of G, which a contractible universal principal G bundle EG. The stable type of BG does not determine G up to isomorphism. A simple example [due to N. Minami]is given by $Q_{4p} \times Z/2$ and $D_{2p} \times Z/4$ where ps is an odd prime, $Q_{4p} is the generalized quarternion group of order 4p and $D_{2p}$ is the dihedral group of order 2p. However the paper [6] gives us a necessary and sufficient condition for $BG_1$ and $BG_2$ to be stably equivalent localized et pp. The local stable type of BG depends on the conjegacy classes of homomorphisms from the p-groups Q into G. This classification theorem simplifies if G has a normal sylow p-subgroup. Then the stable homotopy type depends on the Weyl group of the sylow p-subgroup.

Change of Survival and Reproductive Indicator of the Manila Clam, Ruditapes philippinarum Following Chronic Exposure to Naphthalene (나프탈렌에 노출된 바지락, Ruditapes philippinarum의 생존 및 생식지표 변화)

  • Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum (SL; $32.74{\pm}2.18mm$, TW; $8.29{\pm}1.41g$, N; 450) were exposed to various concentrations of naphthalene for 20 weeks. Exposure concentrations of naphthalene established control, solvent control (ethanol), 30, 60, 90 and $120{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$ following results of 96h acute exposure. After exposure during 20 weeks, survival rate of the manila clam was lowed in 60, 90 and $120{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$ exposure group compared control group. Also, sex ratio of male was higher in $60{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$ exposure group (${\chi}^2=5.492$, P < 0.05) but lowed $90{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$ exposure group (${\chi}^2=4.214$, P < 0.05) and $120{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$ exposure group (${\chi}^2=30.118$, P < 0.05). Gonad development was delayed in female (> $60{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$) and male (> $30{\mu}g$ Nap $L^{-1}$). Intersex was 16.28% in female, 1.68% in male. In this result, naphthalene caused survival decrease, imbalance of sex ratio, delay of gonad development of the manila clam. Also, chronic exposure to naphthalene suggested abnormal effects in reproduction of the manila clam.

Effect of Compost Application on Radish Quality and Changes of Soil Physico-chemical Properties in Organic Farming (유기농산물 생산을 위한 퇴비시용이 무의 품질과 토양의 이화학성에 미치는 영향)

  • Depending on compost treatment the changes of radish morphology and soil physico-chemical properties were investigated in the sandy loam soil, pH of the soil was decreased and the contents of organic matter, total nitrogen, phosphate and cation exchange capacity was increased with increase of compost. Root weight and length were the lowest, but deficit rate was the highest(79.3%) in the treatment of 120Mg/ha of compost. The contents of chlorophyll and sugars were increased with increasing the amount of compost treatment, but the inorganics were scarcely changed. The nitrate content in radish root ranged from 10 to 120mg/kg in various treatments.

  • To get the basic data for organic farming, the Chinese cabbage(Brassica pekinensis Rupr.) was cultivated in field of sandy loam soil and compost was applied at the ratios of 0, 20, 40, 80, 120ton per ha, respectively, with N-P-K elements. The yield of Chinese cabbage was maximum in the plot of compost 40t/ha application and it's weight was 3,783g/head. The chemical components of Chinese cabbage were no remarkable changes with the increasing amount of compost application. Content of organic matter in soil after experiment was finished was 39g/kg, total nitrogen was 2.2g/kg, available phosphorus was 1,927mg /kg. CEC was $11.4cmol^+/kg$, exchangable cations were K:0.5. Ca:0.6. Mg:0.3 and $Na:0.2cmol^+/kg$ in treatment of compost 120 t/ha.

An Experimental Study on Mercury Compounds Poisoning (수은 중독에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This experiment was performed to study the sequential accumulation of mercury in selected tissues of gold fish (Carassius auratus) exposed to 2, 6, 30, 120 and 300 $\mu$g Hg/1 as HgCl$_2$. In order to prepare treatment groups suitable for the present study, one control and five experimental groups, which were composed of I (2 $\mu$g/l), II (6$\mu$g/l), III (30$\mu$g/l), IV (120$\mu$g/l), V (300 $\mu$g/l), were used in 180 liter glass aquaria. The experiment was started by transfering 20 fish of average total length 140 $\pm$ 20 mm to each of the six tanks and allowing the uptake to take place for 12 weeks period. Fish were killed after time periods of 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks, and samples were disected by five parts gill, kidney liver, muscle and egg. The summarized results were as follows: 1. In control group, low concentrations of mercury(range 0.01-0.11 $\mu$g/g)were determined in the all selected tissues. 2. In experimental group, the average levels of mercury residues in the gill, kidney, liver muscle and egg were 3.61-189.54 $\mu$g/g, 13.91-182.58 $\mu$g/g, 8.56-66.49 $\mu$g/g, 0.30-20.33 $\mu$g/g, and 1.63-23.76$\mu$g/g, respectively. 3. The mercury residues in selected tissues of the experimental group were generally 230-9100 times higher than those of the control group. 4. The amounts of methylmercury per total mercury in the muscle after 12 weeks were 0.10/0.30 $\mu$g/g(33.33%) in the I group, 0.14/1.18$\mu$g/g(11.86%) in the II group, 0.25/5.76 $\mu$g/g(4.34%) in the III group, 0.39/11.48$\mu$g/g(3.40%) in the IV group and 0.40/20.33 $\mu$g/g(1.97%) in the V group.
