Land Surface Classification With Airborne Multi-spectral Scanner Image Using A Neuro-Fuzzy Model (뉴로-퍼지 모델을 이용한 항공다중분광주사기 영상의 지표면 분류)

  • In this paper, we propose and apply new classification method to the remotely sensed image acquired from airborne multi-spectral scanner. This is a neuro-fuzzy image classifier derived from the generic model of a 3-layer fuzzy perceptron. We implement a classification software system with the proposed method for land cover image classification. Comparisons with the proposed and maximum-likelihood classifiers are also presented. The results show that the neuro-fuzzy classification method classifies more accurately than the maximum likelihood method. In comparing the maximum-likelihood classification map with the neuro-fuzzy classification map, it is apparent that there is more different as amount as 7.96% in the overall accuracy. Most of the differences are in the "Building" and "Pine tree", for which the neuro-fuzzy classifier was considerably more accurate. However, the "Bare soil" is classified more correctly with the maximum-likelihood classifier rather than the neuro-fuzzy classifier.

  • In this research, EOG(Electrooculogram) signal was analyzed to predict the subject's intention using a fuzzy classifier. The fuzzy classifier is built automatically using the EOG data and evolutionary algorithms. An assistant robot manipulator in redundant configuration has been developed, which operates according to the EOG signal classification results. For automatic fuzzy model construction without any experts' knowledge, an evolutionary algorithm with the new representation scheme, design of adequate fitness function and evolutionary operators, is proposed. The proposed evolutionary algorithm can optimize the number of fuzzy rules, the number of fuzzy membership functions, parameter values for the each membership functions, and parameter values for the consequent parts. It is shown that the fuzzy classifier built by the proposed algorithm can classify the EOG data efficiently. Intelligent motion planner that consists of several neural networks are used for control of robot manipulator based upon EOG classification results.

  • Black-box classifiers, such as artificial neural network and support vector machine, are a popular classifier because of its remarkable performance. They are applied in various fields such as inductive inferences, classifications, or regressions. However, by its characteristics, they cannot provide appropriate explanations how the classification results are derived. Therefore, there are plenty of actively discussed researches about interpreting trained black-box classifiers. In this paper, we propose a method to make a fuzzy logic-based classifier using extracted rules from the artificial neural network and support vector machine in order to interpret internal structures. As an object of classification, an anomalous propagation echo is selected which occurs frequently in radar data and becomes the problem in a precipitation estimation process. After applying a clustering method, learning dataset is generated from clusters. Using the learning dataset, artificial neural network and support vector machine are implemented. After that, decision trees for each classifier are generated. And they are used to implement simplified fuzzy logic-based classifiers by rule extraction and input selection. Finally, we can verify and compare performances. With actual occurrence cased of the anomalous propagation echo, we can determine the inner structures of the black-box classifiers.

Design of Optimized Pattern Classifier for Discrimination of Precipitation and Non-precipitation Event (강수 및 비 강수 사례 판별을 위한 최적화된 패턴 분류기 설계)

  • In this paper, pattern classifier is designed to classify precipitation and non-precipitation events from weather radar data. The proposed classifier is based on Fuzzy Neural Network(FNN) and consists of three FNNs which operate in parallel. In the proposed network, the connection weights of the consequent part of fuzzy rules are expressed as two polynomial types such as constant or linear polynomial function, and their coefficients are learned by using Least Square Estimation(LSE). In addition, parametric as well as structural factors of the proposed classifier are optimized through Differential Evolution(DE) algorithm. After event classification between precipitation and non-precipitation echo, non-precipitation event is to get rid of all echo, while precipitation event including non-precipitation echo is to get rid of non-precipitation echo by classifier that is also based on Fuzzy Neural Network. Weather radar data obtained from meteorological office is to analysis and discuss performance of the proposed event and echo patter classifier, result of echo pattern classifier compare to QC(Quality Control) data obtained from meteorological office.

  • For human-robot interaction, a robot should recognize the meaning of human behavior. In the case of static behavior such as face expression and sign language, the information contained in a single image is sufficient to deliver the meaning to the robot. In the case of dynamic behavior such as gestures, however, the information of sequential images is required. This paper proposes behavior classification by using fuzzy classifier to deliver the meaning of dynamic behavior to the robot. The proposed method extracts feature points from input images by a skeleton model, generates a vector space from a differential image of the extracted feature points, and uses this information as the learning data for fuzzy classifier. Finally, we show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method through experiments.

Detection of Forged Signatures Using Directional Gradient Spectrum of Image Outline and Weighted Fuzzy Classifier

  • In this paper, a method for detection of forged signatures based on spectral analysis of directional gradient density function and a weighted fuzzy classifier is proposed. The well defined outline of an incoming signature image is extracted in a preprocessing stage which includes noise reduction, automatic thresholding, image restoration and erosion process. The directional gradient density function derived from extracted signature outline is highly related to the overall shape of signature image, and thus its frequency spectrum is used as a feature set. With this spectral feature set, having a property to be invariant in size, shift, and rotation, a weighted fuzzy classifier is evaluated for the verification of freehand and random forgeries. Experiments show that less than 5% averaged error rate can be achieved on a database of 500 signature samples.

  • A Fuzzy Classifier which deals with very confusing objects is proposed. Naturally this classifier heavily relies on the nulti-feature decision-making procedure. For a simple example, this classifier is applied to the recognition of confusing handwritten numerals 4,6 and 9 The characteristic variables used in this paper are the existence of a loop and the relative location of the starting or ending points(SEP). Thus each sample of handwritten numerals 4, 6 and 9 is classified in one of the 6 groups which are divided according to the sample structure. Each group has its own classifying rules. Also the method of rule-generation using genetic algorithms in each group is proposed.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy classifier system (FCS) using hyper-cone membership functions (HCMFs) and rule reduction techniques. The FCS can generate excellent rules which have the best number of rules and the best location and shape of membership functions. The HCMF is expressed by a kind of radial basis function, and its fuzzy rule can be flexibly located in input and output spaces. The rule reduction technique adopts a decreasing method by merging the two appropriate rules. We applay the FCS to a tubby rule generation for the inverted pendulum control.

  • In this paper, precipitation / non-precipitation pattern classification of meteorological radar data is conducted by using neuro-fuzzy algorithm. Structure expression of meteorological radar data information is analyzed in order to effectively classify precipitation and non-precipitation. Also diverse input variables for designing pattern classifier could be considered by exploiting the quantitative as well as qualitative characteristic of meteorological radar data information and then each characteristic of input variables is analyzed. Preferred pattern classifier can be designed by essential input variables that give a decisive effect on output performance as well as model architecture. As the proposed model architecture, neuro-fuzzy algorithm is designed by using FCM-based radial basis function neural network(RBFNN). Two parts of classifiers such as instance classifier part and echo classifier part are designed and carried out serially in the entire system architecture. In the instance classifier part, the pattern classifier identifies between precipitation and non-precipitation data. In the echo classifier part, because precipitation data information identified by the instance classifier could partially involve non-precipitation data information, echo classifier is considered to classify between them. The performance of the proposed classifier is evaluated and analyzed when compared with existing QC method.
