  • This paper describes a fuzzy controlled pre-chlorination technique for purifying the pulluted raw water in water purification lants. For the purpose of obtaining the high quality water, the appropriate pre-chlorine dosage rate has to be continuously adjusted according to a change in quality of a intake raw water, weather, solar nergy mount, temperature and etc. Therefore, the method of expressing an expert's empirical knowledge cumulated from his past carrier by fuzzy reasoning and the fuzzy controller design technique is necessary. In this paper fuzzy membership functions and rules accordingto emprircal knowledge and experimental field data were obtained, And also fuzzy cintriller design using four feedforward components for the determination of pre-chlorine dosage rate and four feedback ones for the compensation of its dosage rate with residual chlorine and its change rate, was executed.

  • This paper presents the linearized fuzzy modeling technique of nonlinear dynamical system and the stability analysis of fuzzy control system. Firstly, the nonlinear system is partitionized by multiple linear fuzzy subcontrol systems based on fuzzy linguistic variables and fuzzy rules. Secondly, the disturbance adaptaion controllers which guarantee the global asymptotic stability of each fuzzy subsystem by an optimal feedback control law are designed and the stability analysis procedures of the total fuzzy control system using Lyapunov functions and eigenvalues are discussed in detail through a given illustrative example.

  • In this study magneto-rheological damper, a kind of semi-active device, is used to reduce the response of pier and girder of bridge structure subjected to seismic excitation and as a effective semi-active control method fuzzy control technique considering nonlinear behavior of the damper dynamics. By Numerical simulations of a nine span continuous bridge system subjected to various earthquakes, fuzzy control technique is compared with existing clipped optimal control technique in control performance which reduces displacement of pier and girder simultaneously. In the comparison of the control performance within a control force limit, it is confirmed that presented fuzzy control technique more efficiently reduce the pier and girder displacement than clipped optimal control technique based on optimal control theory.

  • In this paper, the design technique of fuzzy controller using pole placement method and the stability analysis of the system are discussed. The consequent parts of the fuzzy model representing the fuzzy control system are descrived by linear stated equations. It cannot be guaranteed that the total fuzzy system is stable even if all subsystems are stable. The range of the consequent parameters of fuzzy feedback controller which is stable for each fuzzy subspace of the input space are derived, using a rather simplified stability criterion. Then, the consequent parameters of fuzzy controller is determined with the sufficient condition that the fuzzy feedback controller maintain robust stability for the model of other subspace.

  • This paper presents a control approach for designing a fuzzy-PI controller for a synchronous generator excitation and SVC system. A combination of thyristor-controlled reactors and fixed capacitors(TCR-FC) type SVC is recognized as having the most flexible control and high speed response, which has been widely utilized in power systems, is considered and designed to improve the response of a synchronous generator, as well as controlling the system voltage. A Fuzzy-PI controller for SVC system was proposed in this paper. The PI gain parameters of the proposed Fuzzy-PI controller which is a special type of PI ones are self-tuned by fuzzy inference technique. It is natural that the fuzzy inference technique should be based on humans intuitions and empirical knowledge. Nonetheless, the conventional ones were not so. Therefore, In this paper, the fuzzy inference technique of PI gains using MMGM(Min Max Gravity Method) which is very similar to humans inference procedures, was presented and applied to the SVC system. The system dynamic responses are examined after applying all small disturbance condition.

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the occurrence probabilities of severe accident phenomena based on a fuzzy elicitation technique. Normally, it is difficult to determine these probabilities due to the lack of information on severe accident progression and the highly uncertain values currently in use. In this case, fuzzy set theory (FST) can be best exploited. First, questions were devised for expert elicitation on technical issues of severe accident phenomena. To deal with ambiguities and the imprecision of previously developed (reference) probabilities, fuzzy aggregation methods based on FST were employed to derive the occurrence probabilities of severe accidents via four phases: 1) choosing experts, 2) quantifying weighting factors for the experts, 3) aggregating the experts' opinions, and 4) defuzzifying the fuzzy numbers. In this way, this study obtained expert elicitation results in the form of updated occurrence probabilities of severe accident phenomena in the OPR-1000 plant, after which the differences between the reference probabilities and the newly acquired probabilities using fuzzy aggregation were compared, with the advantages of the fuzzy technique over other approaches explained. Lastly, the impact of applying the updated severe accident probabilities on containment integrity was quantitatively investigated in a Level 2 PSA model.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new soft computing technique that dwells on the ideas of combining fuzzy rules in a fuzzy system with polynomial neural networks (PNN). The PNN is a flexible neural architecture whose structure is developed through the modeling process. Unfortunately, the PNN has a fatal drawback in that it cannot be constructed for nonlinear systems with only a small amount of input variables. To overcome this limitation in the conventional PNN, we employed one of three principal soft computing components such as a fuzzy system. As such, a space of input variables is partitioned into several subspaces by the fuzzy system and these subspaces are utilized as new input variables to the PNN architecture. The proposed soft computing technique is achieved by merging the fuzzy system and the PNN into one unified framework. As a result, we can find a workable synergistic environment and the main characteristics of the two modeling techniques are harmonized. Thus, the proposed method alleviates the problems of PNN while providing superb performance. Identification results of the three-input nonlinear static function and nonlinear system with two inputs will be demonstrated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach.

  • This paper proposes semi-active fuzzy control technique of magneto-rheological dampers for seismic response control of cable-stayed bridges. Through the fuzzy inference process, the proposed technique performs the semi-active control with the responses of MR dampers only. Moreover, differently from the conventional semi-active control technique, this technique does not require additional active controller for the primary controller, which provides a simple design process. in order to validate the control performance of the proposed technique, the semi-active fuzzy control technique is applied to the benchmark control problem of cable-stayed bridge and its control performance is compared with those of conventional semi-active control techniques. The comparative results show that the proposed fuzzy control technique can be an effective control strategy by efficiently and simultaneously reducing the mutual conflicting responses such as the shear forces and moments at the base of the lowers, longitudinal displacement of the deck, and tensions in the stay cables.

  • A novel 2-dimensional matched filter of the parallel-jaw type using fuzzy logics is proposed for bin picking. Specifically, averaged pixel intensity of the windowed region for the filtering is considered to be fuzzy. Also membership function for darkness and brightness are designed by employing the intensite histogram of image. Then a rule is given to know how much a windowed region can be a possible holdsite. Furthermore eight rules are made to determine the part orientation, where Mamadi's resoning method is applied. To show the validities of our proposed technique. some experimental results are illustrated and compared with the results by conventional matched filter technique.
