  • Recently, our construction market recognizes the necessity of risk management, however the application of practical system is still limited on the construction site because the methodology for analyzing and quantifying construction risk and for building actual risk factors is not easy. This study suggests a risk management method by fuzzy theory, which is using subjective knowledge of an expert and linguistic value, to analyze and Quantify risk. The result of study is expected to improve the accuracy of risk analysis because three factors, such as probability, impact and frequency, for estimating membership function are introduced to quantify each risk factor.

  • New license plates have been used since 2007. This paper proposes a new license plate extraction method using a gray labeling and a fuzzy reasoning method. First, the proposed method extracts the candidate plates by the gray labeling which is the enhanced version of a non-recursive flood-filling algorithm. By newly designed fuzzy inference system. fitness of each candidate plates are calculated. Finally, the area of the license plate in a image is extracted as a region of the candidate label which has the highest fitness. In the experiments, various license plate images took from indoor/outdoor parking lot, street, etc. by digital camera or cellular phone were used and the proposed extraction method was showed remarkable results of a 94 percent success.

  • In this study, a weighted fuzzy min-max (WFMM) neural network model for pattern classification is proposed. The model has a modified structure of FMM neural network in which the weight concept is added to represent the frequency factor of feature values in a learning data set. First we present in this paper a new activation function of the network which is defined as a hyperbox membership function. Then we introduce a new learning algorithm for the model that consists of three kinds of processes: hyperbox creation/expansion, hyperbox overlap test, and hyperbox contraction. A weight adaptation rule considering the frequency factors is defined for the learning process. Finally we describe a feature analysis technique using the proposed model. Four kinds of relevance factors among feature values, feature types, hyperboxes and patterns classes are proposed to analyze relative importance of each feature in a given problem. Two types of practical applications, Fisher's Iris data and Cleveland medical data, have been used for the experiments. Through the experimental results, the effectiveness of the proposed method is discussed.

The proposal algorithm gets performs the optimal image, fuzzy wavelet algorithm and Expression recognition is consisted of face characteristic detection step and face Expression recognition step. This paper could applied to the PCA and LDA in using some simple strategies and also compares and analyzes the performance of the LDA mixed model which is combined and the facial expression recognition based on PCA and LDA. The LDA mixed model is represented by the PCA and the LDA approaches. And then we calculate the distance of vectors dPCA, dLDA from all fates in the database. Last, the two vectors are combined according to a given combination rule and the final decision is made by NNPC. In a result, we could showed the superior the LDA mixed model can be than the conventional algorithm.

  • OC-SVM(One Class Support Vector Machine) avoids solving a full density estimation problem, and instead focuses on a simpler task, estimating quantiles of a data distribution, i.e. its support. OC-SVM seeks to estimate regions where most of data resides and represents the regions as a function of the support vectors, Although OC-SVM is powerful method for data description, it is difficult to incorporate human subjective importance into its estimation process, In order to integrate the importance of each point into the OC-SVM process, we propose a fuzzy version of OC-SVM. In FOC-SVM (Fuzzy One-Class Support Vector Machine), we do not equally treat data points and instead weight data points according to the importance measure of the corresponding objects. That is, we scale the kernel feature vector according to the importance measure of the object so that a kernel feature vector of a less important object should contribute less to the detection process of OC-SVM. We demonstrate the performance of our algorithm on several synthesized data sets, Experimental results showed the promising results.

  • This study was carried out to offer the systematical and scientific method of regional environment conservation by deciding the rank using fuzzy theory, and try to find the methodology to accurately accomplished the regional environment assessment for sound land conservation. The results were as follows. To transform the Likert's scale granted to assessment indicators into the type of triangular fuzzy number (a, b, c), there was conversion to each minimum (a), median (b), and maximum (c) in applying membership function. We used the center of gravity and eigenvalue leading to the rank. In the sequential analysis of rank-based test of assessment indicators by triangular fuzzy number, the result proclaimed that ranking of the indicators was, in the biotic field, in the order of 'dominance', 'sociality', 'coverage' and in the abiotic one, 'soil pH', 'T-N', 'soil property', and in the qualitative one, 'impact rating class', 'hemeroby degree', 'land use pattern', and in the functional one, 'protection of water resource', 'offer of recreation', 'protection of soil erosion'. Therefore, there was a difference between subjective rank from human and the rank from triangular fuzzy number. In other words, the scientific rank decision would be not so much being subjective and biased as dealing with human thoughts mathematically by triangular fuzzy number.

  • In this study, we introduce a new category of fuzzy inference systems based on information granulation to carry out the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. Informally speaking, information granules are viewed as linked collections of objects (data, in particular) drawn together by the criteria of proximity, similarity, or functionality Granulation of information with the aid of Hard C-Means (HCM) clustering help determine the initial parameters of fuzzy model such as the initial apexes of the membership functions and the initial values of polynomial functions being used in the premise and consequence part of the fuzzy rules. And the initial parameters are tuned effectively with the aid of the genetic algorithms(GAs) and the least square method (LSM). An aggregate objective function with a weighting factor is also used in order to achieve a balance between performance of the fuzzy model. The proposed model is evaluated with using a numerical example and is contrasted with the performance of conventional fuzzy models in the literature.

  • A chemical reaction occurring in CSTR (Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor) is significantly affected by the concentration, temperature, pressure, and reacting time of materials, and thus it has strong nonlinear and time-varying characteristics. Also, when an existing linear PID controller with fixed gain is used, the performance could deteriorate or could be unstable if the system parameters change due to the change in the operating point of CSTR. In this study, a technique for the design of a fuzzy PD plus I controller was proposed for the temperature control of a CSTR process. In the fuzzy PD plus I controller, a linear integral controller was added to a fuzzy PD controller in parallel, and the steady-state performance could be improved based on this. For the fuzzy membership function, a Gaussian type was used; for the fuzzy inference, the Max-Min method of Mamdani was used; and for the defuzzification, the center of gravity method was used. In addition, the saturation state of the actuator was also considered during controller design. The validity of the proposed method was examined by comparing the set-point tracking performance and the robustness to the parameter change with those of an adaptive controller and a nonlinear proportional-integral-differential controller.

  • Many processes such as machining, injection-moulding and metal-forming are usually operated by hydraulic servo-systems. The dynamic characteristics of these systems are complex and highly non-linear and are often subjected to the uncertain external disturbances associated with the processes. Consequently, the conventional approach to the controller design for these systems may not guarantee accurate tracking control performance. An effective neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to realize an accurate hydraulic servo-system regardless of the uncertainties and the external disturbances. For this purpose, first, we develop a simplified fuzzy logic controller which have multidimensional and unsymmetric membership functions. Secondly, we develop a neural network which consists of the parameters of the fuzzy logic controller. It is show that the neural network has both learning capability and linguistic representation capability. The proposed controller was implemented on a hydraulic servo-system. Feedback error learning architecture is adopted which uses the feedback error directly without passing through the dynamics or inverse transfer function of the hydraulic servo-system to train the neuro-fuzzy controller. A series of simulations was performed for the position-tracking control of the system subjected to external disturbances. The results of simulations show that regardless of inherent non-linearities and disturbances, an accuracy tracking-control performance is obtained using the proposed neuro-fuzzy controller.
