Due to the potential application to ultra-high strength fibers and excellent properties such as high mechanical properties, excellent thermal endurance and chemical stability, thermotropic liquid crystal polymers (TLCPS) are attractive in recent years [1, 2]. Furthermore, the melt blends of TLCPS and conventional thermoplastics have been extensively investigated because of their easy processing and high performance [3-6]. Since high performance polymers generally has high melt viscosity, introduction of the relatively low viscosity components may be one of the more effective techniques to improve processability through the decrement of melt viscosity in melt processing. 20S-dihydroprotopanaxatriol (2H-PPT) is a derivative of protopanaxatrol from ginseng. Unlike other components from Panax ginseng, the pharmacological activity of this compound has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the modulatory activity of 2H-PPT on the cellular responses of monocytes and macrophages to understand its immunoregulatory actions. 2H-PPT strongly upregulated the release of radicals in sodium nitroprusside-treated RAW264.7 cells and the surface levels of costimulatory molecule CD86. More importantly, this compound remarkably suppressed nitric oxide production, morphological changes, phagocytic uptake, cell-cell aggregation, and cell-matrix adhesion in RAW264.7 and U937 cells in the presence or absence of lipopolysaccharide, anti-CD43 antibody, fibronectin, and phorbal 12-myristate 13-acetate. Therefore, our results suggest that 2H-PPT can be applied as a novel functional immunoregulator of macrophages and monocytes.

Femtosecond laser micro-processing received much attention in the past decade. The nature of ultra-short light-matter interaction permits femtosecond laser to overcome the diffraction limit and realize precise micro-processing. The ultrahigh light intensity of the femtosecond laser allows sapece-selective microscopic modifications to materials based on multiphoton processes. In this paper, we review our recent research development on space-selective precipitation and control of functional crystals in glasses by an infrared femtosecond laser. The technique will open new possibilities in the fabrication of micro-optical components with various optical functions.

Mulberry containing many bioactive components is very useful as functional food resource. Mulberry leaf ice cream, mulberry leaf tea, mulberry noodle, mulberry fruit jam, mulberry wine etc. have been developed in Korea. Because mulberry fruit has abundant natural pigments belonging to anthocyanins, we can expect their therapeutic and physiological effects. However, there are few reports about mulberry seed. So we studied on fatty acids of mulberry seed for the purpose of increasing the functional utilization of mulberry fruit. (omitted)

Dependency Grammar has been used by Iinguists as the basis of the syntactic components of their grammar formalisms. It has also been used in natural langauge parsing. In China, attempts have been made to use this grammar formalism to parse Chinese sentences using corpus based techniques. This paper reviews the properties of Dependency Grammar as embodied in four axioms for the well-formedness conditions for dependency structures. It is shown that allowing mul tiple governors as done by some followers of this formalism is unnecessary. The practice of augmenting Dependency Grammar with functional labels is discussed in the light of building functional structures when the sentence is parsed. This will also facilitate semantic interpretion.retion.

In this study, the effect of gamma irradiation on the microbial contamination and biological activities of tuna cooking juices was investigated. Tuna cooking juice was by-produced during the canning processing, and had various functional components. But, it was shown that the tuna cooking juice was seriously contaminated. Gamma irradiation effectively reduced the microbial population in tuna cooking juice. Also, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, tyrosinse inhibitory activity, and ACE inhibitory activity of tuna cooking juices were all increased as a result of gamma irradiation. These results suggest that wasted tuna cooking juices can be used as a functional component in the food and cosmetic industries if the irradiation technology were applied.

On-machine automatic measuring software from 3-D solid modeler is generally applied to assess the functional performance of a final produce for computer numerical control (CNC) machine. Automatic measuring software may also be performed on individual components of CNC machine in which some functional aspect of the component must be examined and cannot be implicity determined by means of a mechanical inspection. The manufacturing specialist, combined with the appropriate software simulation, can not only create the commands to drive the virtual measuring but also can check for mistakes by viewing the computer graphics simulation of the tool cutting sequence.

Six components were isolated from the $CH_2Cl_2$ fraction of Belamcanda chinensis rhizome by open column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated as ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (1), apocynin (2), decursin (3), iristectorigenin A (4), irigenin (5) and tectorigenin (6) by spectral analysis. Among these compounds, decursin (3) was isolated for the first time from a plant of the family Iridaceae.

The labeling for functionality of food or food components are recognized globally and are essential for the growth of dairy product industry. To expand the functional claims of dairy product especially fermented milk product, the regulations restricting the labeling of functionality should be amended as soon as possible. The labeling regulations of functionality and efficacy for processed and functional foods in related Acts and subordinated statues such as definition, scope of claims, etc. were reviewed and the problems existed in the system were identified. The definition and classification of efficacy for processed food in Food Sanitation Act were analyzed to revise the labeling regulation of dairy product. A draft of amended labeling regulation for the functionality of dairy product is proposed, which provides consumers with appropriate information of beneficial effects on health purpose for human body structure and function. In order to develop the dairy products and related industries, these contents should be considered when the annexed Table 14 in the Enforcement Rule of the Processing of Livestock Products Act is amended.

Large hospital designs try to accommodate functional needs and spatial organization. The purpose of this study is to propose an effective compositional method by horizontal interconnection of public circulation spaces with 'hospital street'. 'Hospital street' and network of public circulation spaces are major elements of consideration for the design of large hospitals, which not only connect functional components but also provide satisfying environment, amenity and patients' life.
