  • Purpose: Consumers' experience of functional attributes is remembered, and the experience lowers the cost of consumers' input from their point of view and reduces uncertainty. It also plays an important role in consumers' positive emotions and responses. Accordingly, if information search costs are reduced in terms of the costs perceived by consumers about restaurants, a strategy differentiated from other companies can be established. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of functional congruence of restaurant stores on information search cost reduction, positive/negative emotions, and loyalty. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: This study investigated functional congruence, information search cost reduction, and positive/negative emotions. The structural relationship between loyalty was analyzed. To verify this, a research hypothesis was established based on previous studies and a research model was constructed. The questionnaire items were modified and used according to the current study, based on previous studies. The data were collected using the questionnaire method from 187 people who had dining out experience. Frequency analysis was performed to confirm demographic characteristics. Reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the collected data were verified. The research model was analyzed with a structural equation modeling (SmartPLS 4). Results: The findings show that functional congruence had significant positive effects on information search cost reduction and positive emotion, but no significant effect on negative emotion. Information search cost reduction had significant positive effects on positive emotion/negative emotion but did not significantly affect loyalty. Lastly, both positive and negative emotions had significant positive effects on loyalty. Conclusion: Based on transaction cost theory, this study found how functional congruence and information search cost reduction influence consumers' emotions. The functional attributes of restaurants were perceived by customers as information, thus uncertainty was decreased. Finally, appropriate management strategies and implications of functional congruence and information search cost in the restaurant were suggested.

  • In this paper we consider Internet Protocol Tele-Vision (IPTV) Service that started recently in Korea. IPTV makes it possible to watch high quality TV programs and a lot of multimedia contents with TV by way of Internet. The service providers are interested in the factors that influence the diffusion of new service such as IPTV. We therefore search the functional-attribute that would influence the acceptance of IPTV service, and propose a model for analyzing the relationship between the attributes and the intention of buying. The model is based on the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Survey results show that the significant functional attributes influencing the intention of buying are contents variety and convenience.

  • In this study, the author developed a new animal model to examine morphological changes and functional recoveries after vertical hemilaryngeal transplantation in the canine. Seven vertical hemilaryngeal transplantations were carried out in the canine. After preparing the host dog removing right sided hemilarynx, hemilarynx of the donor dog was transplanted by hooking up the arteries, veins, nerves and hypopharyngeal mucosa. Especially, recurrent laryngeal nerve was anastomosed at the branch level(anterior and posterior) respectively. After 7 days, for the first evaluation of the transplantation, four out of seven dogs were considered successful. Three dogs survived more than one month, which is the critical period to evaluate the functional recovery after transplantations. After EMG examination, two dogs(#3, #5 dog) showed some functional recoveries. The five-transplanted hemilarynges were sectioned at the arytenoid cartilage region to examine the morphological changes. The results showed that the transplanted hemilarynx appeared normal as control in #5 dog. In addition, #2 dog showed fairly good condition even though died from asphyxia after 9 days out of transplantation. The other. three dogs(#3, #6, #7) showed various levels of atrophy and disappearance of the muscles and cartilages in their larynges. It can be suggested that this model could contribute an advance to preparing human laryngeal transplantation in the future.

  • A clubfoot is a kind of congenital deformity of foot, which is internally rotated at the ankle. In this paper, we are going to cluster the curves of relative differences between regular and operated feet. Since these curves are irregular and sparsely sampled, general clustering models could not be applied. So the clustering model for sparsely sampled functional data by James and Sugar (2003) are applied and parameters are estimated using EM algorithm. The number of clusters is determined by the distortion function (Sugar and James, 2003) and two clusters of the curves are found.

  • While the competitiveness of small and medium sized cities has become important for balanced development at the national scale, they have experienced continuous decline in population and employment, particularly those in non-capital regions. In addition, some of small and medium sized cities have been classified into shrinking cities that have declined due to their long-term structural reasons. To address these issues, a regional approach, by which a hub city and its surrounding small and medium sized cities can collaborate has been suggested. Given this background, the purpose of this study is to identify and delineate hub cities and their impact areas by using travel data as a functional network index. This study uses a centrality index to identify the hub cities of small and medium sized cities and Markov-chain model and cluster analysis to delineate regional boundaries. The mean first passage time (MFPT) generated from the Markov-chain model can be interpreted as functional distance of each region. The study suggests a methodological approach delineating the boundaries of regions incorporating functional relationships of hub cities and their impact areas, and provides 59 hub cities and their impact areas. The results also provide policy implications for regional spatial planning that addresses appropriate planning boundaries of regions for enhancing the economic competitiveness of small and medium sized cities and ensuring services for shrinking cities.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a workwear design framework that can be applied in workwear design. A general explorationstudy was conducted onworkwear concepts and market research to understand the importance and growth potential of workwear. Subsequently, representative brands specializing in workwear are selected, and a case analysis of workwear is conducted with a focus on jackets, pants, and overall items. As a result, four key characteristics of workwear are derived: Ergonomic Pattern-making, Certified Fabric, Specialized Color, and Customized Details. To present a model that considers the functional, expressive, and aesthetic aspects of workwear simultaneously, the 'Function Express Aesthetic' (FEA) model is utilized as the foundation. The 12 derived elements in the newly developed framework combine these four characteristics with three aspects (functional, expressive, and aesthetic), allowing for comprehensive consideration and validation of workwear conditions. The new framework will be used in subsequent research for developing workwear prototypes and is expected to enhanceworkwear production by employing a systematic approach during the design ideation and evaluation stages. By effectively integrating functional aspects with expressive-aesthetic values centered on the functionality of workwear products, this framework will provide.

  • The most important non-functional requirements for dependability of any Embedded Real-Time Safety Systems are safety, availability and reliability requirements. System architecture plays the primary role in achieving these requirements. Compliance with these non-functional requirements should be ensured early in the development cycle with appropriate considerations during architectural design. In this paper, we present an application of system architecture modeling for quantitative assessment of system dependability. We use probabilistic model checker (PRISM), for dependability analysis of the DTMC model derived from system architecture model. In general, the model checking techniques do not scale well for analyzing large systems, because of prohibitively large state space. It limits the use of model checking techniques in analyzing the systems of practical interest. We propose abstraction based compositional analysis methodology to circumvent this limitation. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been demonstrated using the case study involving the dependability analysis of safety system of a large Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).

  • In this paper we review some methods for analyzing functional data and illustrate real application of functional data analysis. Representing methods for functional data by using basis function, analyzing functional variation by functional principal component analysis and functional linear models are reviewed. For a real application, we use temperature and precipitation data measured in Korea from the January of 1970 to the May of 2004. We apply functional principal component analysis for each data and test the significance of regional division done by using shining hours. We also estimate functional regression model for temperature and precipitation.
