The purpose of this study was to examine children's social-cognitive modes of play in same-age and mixed-age kindergarten classrooms. The subjects were 45 children. in three classrooms of 4-year-olds, 69 children in three classrooms of 5-year-olds, and 60 children in three mixed-age classrooms of 4- and 5-year-olds. Observations were conducted by videotape recordings. Observation periods were of five-minutes duration. There were ten observations of each child's indoor free-play periods. Observational data were collected by the time sampling method with the social cognitive play behavioral checking list based on an adaptation of one devised by Rubin(1985). The data was analyzed by t-test with the SAS computer program. Four- and five-year-olds in mixed-age classrooms were more likely to engage in "complex" modes of play than 4- and 5-year-olds in same-age classrooms. Four-year-olds in same-age classrooms were more likely to engage in solitary-functional, parallel-functional, and group-functional play than 4-year-olds in mixed-age classrooms. However, 4-year-olds in mixed-age classrooms were more likely to engage in group-constructive, group-dramatic, solitary-game, and group-game play than 4-year-olds in same-age classrooms. Five-year-olds in same-age classes were more likely to engage in solitary-functional and parallel-functional play than 5-year-olds in mixed-age classes. Five-year-olds in mixed-age classes were more likely to engage in group-constructive, group-dramatic, and group-game play than their counterparts in same-age settings.
This study introduces coding education using functional game and the effect of game quality on learning achievement. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the difference of game quality on the learner's attitude, learning immersion, education satisfaction and preference for elementary school and junior high school students. In this study, it is meaningful to consider the effect of quality improvement of educational games on learning and we suggest that when designing an educational game, game performance and quality should be considered carefully.
The purpose of this paper is to study users' intention on paid game items through language network analysis. The functional item buying group considered the capabilities and strength of the game character as the most important factor for the winning of the games while the decorative game item buying users considered self-satisfaction for the unique outfit of their game character. Moreover, they reflected their game characters as themselves and another ego.
This study aims to uncover the gamers' cognitive process during the gameplay and explore the differences between groups in the gamers' playing behavior according to their expertise: experts, intermediate players, and novices. To this end, the empirical experiment was conducted in 'World of Warcraft' game which is a good representative of MMO(Massively Multi-player Online) game currently. Verbal protocol and action protocol collected from the empirical experiment were analyzed according to the gamers' expertise. As a result of this study, we found that the different behavior patterns result from standardizing pattern of their actions for experts and forming the learning curves and the specific patterns of action for intermediate game players and novices. While three functional-actions as a collection action concentrates on the early stage of the game for experts, the novices' behavior pattern dispersedly appeared in all seven functional-action, such as search, combat, three type collections, avoid, and communication in the whole gameplay. This study represents the consistency and the difference derived from the comparison analysis between groups according to the expertise. This study is concluded with key implications to support game design guidelines according to experts, intermediate players, and novices. Consequently, the result of this study provides the basic to the development of MMO content for game novices.

The quality of the game can be evaluated by its fun and functional stability. Among them, the quality area for fun is the essence of the game, so it is a very important factor to be considered from the point of view of a game designer. Usually, fun games with high originality and immersion are designed in the early stages of development, such as idea generation and concept setting. At this time, making it possible to verify the fun factor of the game has an important influence on the success of the game. In this study, the case of using PIT technique when teaching fun element design to students who are starting to study game design was introduced and the effect was analyzed. It is expected that the PIT technique will be used more actively in the game design education field for high-quality and fun game design.
As the part of a research project, we examined the causes of game addiction. Traumatized infants may project into virtual space a variety of mental symptoms such as aggression and delusion, division and depression, lack of integrated ego, low emotional awareness, compulsive obsession with objects, rebellion against social norms, and low reality awareness. Game space plays various roles in exhibiting presence of self, omnipotence and hopelessness, division of the self-image, emotional duality, immersion, and motility. This roles have both functional and dysfunctional effects.
The purpose of this study is to identify the functional role of music, which is one of the main elements that make up PC games. To this end, theme music by genre of PC game was divided through analysis and then the relationship between variables was analyzed by visually positioning the distance between 'music type', 'structural element of music' and 'image' using multiple correspondence matching analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that there was a difference in location between the types of music by game genre, the structural elements of music, and the characteristics of the image.
This study examined the role of enjoyment in the relationship between perceived auditory feedback (PAF), which provides information about the situation during game play, and user experience factors. 100 undergraduates played a mobile game, 'Classy Royale' and took a survey about their user experience. As a result of analyzing the available data from 98 participants, PROCESS MACRO showed that PAF was positively associated with enjoyment, immersion, and intention to use; enjoyment mediated the effects of PAF on immersion and intention. These results can help game research and development regarding the functional value of audio factors.
Smart TV has been the most popular communication device since 2010. It is the multi-functional device conjugated a variety of features such as Apps, Web surfing, viewing VOD and so on. However, the contents and development tools for smart TV are still relatively small and research for game contents development tools is also insufficient. In this study, we are to design and develop a framework for developers to make Smart TV game contents easily. The STGF (Smart TV Game Framework) we developed is made up of 3 managers such as input manager, screen data process manager, and game status process manager. We verified the usefulness of STGF through developing "Pentomiro" App launched commercially in 2013. With STGF development time would be expected to be reduced, because we spend little time in basic development steps such as input, output, and data processing and error correction processing.
This study was accomplished to examine the relationship between the videogame player's perceived congruity and intention to game use, and to investigate the mediating effect of emotion as the psychological factor. Games for the research subject are confined to single player games on console or PC not online or mobile games to rule out human interaction. The results proposed that self and functional congruity have positive impact on intention to game use, and emotion is in the mediating effect of these relationships. Based on the results of the analysis, game producers have some implications for the game which is appropriate for the quality, the gamer's image, and the emotional aspect.
